Directed by Dylan Kidd, Get A Job stars Miles Teller as Will, the Millennial From Hell. Fresh out of college, our hero (?) expects everything to work for him like it always has. When L.A. Weekly tells him the videographer job they promised is no longer available, he throws a temper tantrum and asks his dad (Bryan Cranston, doing his best) for money. Sadly, dad has just lost his job as well.
Determined to skate by on the quality of his YouTube videos, Will tries his hardest to avoid the corporate video sphere. He considers himself better than that. This is an extremely unlikable lead character at the center of a brutally cynical, largely unfunny film fueled by muddled social commentary.
Kidd is a talented filmmaker, responsible for the sharp indie Roger Dodger and the strange, under-seen P.S., but this, his third film, feels like a lost cause. Indeed, it...

For literally years now, I’d been looking forward to seeing Get a Job, the new (or newish, in this case now) film from Dylan Kidd. Last week, after an incredibly long delay/time spent sitting on the shelf, I finally saw the flick, which will be hitting theaters this Friday. I’m thrilled to report that it’s good stuff too, fully underserving of the fate it had been stuck with up until now. Honestly, even if it were terrible, I still don’t understand why it never was released. Director Dylan Kidd was a promising up and coming indie filmmaker, leading man Miles Teller has become a bigger and bigger star, and the supporting cast has the likes of Allison Brie, Bryan Cranston, and especially Anna Kendrick in it. That sounds more like a big time studio comedy than an ignored indie, right? Throw in how timely a...

Get a Job hits on March 25th, and Lionsgate has released some new images. They don’t exactly offer a lot of surprises that the trailer (see below) hid, but we do get a nice group selfie shot… and learn that Miles Teller‘s character works in some manner of booth.
The premise of the film is, eventually, an interesting one, but you have to guess that the film doesn’t take as long to get there as the trailer suggests.
While the post-graduation angst film isn’t entirely new, and is in fact possibly overworked as practically a mantra of the new generation, the role reversal angle and relationship focal point should make this one interesting. It certainly has a cast that you expect good things from. Well, some of the cast anyway.

Anna Kendrick and Miles Teller star as two down-on-their-luck college graduates struggling to make ends meet in the first Get a Job trailer, which is now finally on the verge of release.
First hatched in 2012, the dramedy appeared to bring together all then necessary ingredients for a sure-fire hit, chiefly former Community star Alison Brie and a Bryan Cranston who was still considered the apex predator of Albuquerque at the time. But then, Get a Job was ordered to the shelf where it’s remained ever since, a fate that even led Kendrick to question whether the film would ever see a release.
Now, out of the blue, CBS Films and Lionsgate Premiere has whipped Dylan Kidd’s picture into shape, premiering the first trailer and poster ahead of a limited theaterical release next month. THR recently reported that director Dylan Kidd (Roger Dodger) will be helming the comedy Get A Job (title subject to change). The film will have a pretty decent comedic cast including Bryan Cranston, Anna Kendrick, Miles Teller, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Allison Brie, Jay Pharoah, and Brandon T. Jackson.
Here is the synopsis of the film:
A multi-generational comedy about four recent college graduates, written by Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel, the project will see Teller playing a young man struggling in an entry-level job, while Kendrick plays his type-a girlfriend. Cranston will appear as the young man’s father who is job hunting at the same time as his son.
The concept is nothing that we haven’t heard before. However, the cast is really good so that might be all that it takes to get my butt into the theater. I guess we will have to wait till 2013 to find out.

It was in January when we told you that Dylan Kidd (Roger Dodger) would helm his first feature in some eight years, Get a Job, with a nice little cast of good-to-great performers already in mind. Ask, and you shall receive. If you build it, they will come. We're sure one of those phrases applies to "Get A Job," the first feature film in quite awhile from "Rodger Dodger" helmer Dylan Kidd.
First cropping up over a month ago with a bunch of names being eyed to join the film -- Miles Teller, Anna Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Jay Pharaoh -- well, it seems Kidd is getting his way. CBS Films has confirmed the earlier trade report with Teller taking the lead, and have added that all the above on board for the movie in addition to "Community" star Alison Brie and Brandon T. Jackson ("Tropic Thunder," "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief"). If you're going to make a comeback after a long hiatus from feature filmmaking, you couldn't ask for a better cast.

Liam Hemsworth, the younger brother of Chris Hemsworth), will appear in two highly anticipated films this year, The Hunger Games and The Expendables 2. Now the young star will appear in Phillip Noyce sci-fi movie titled Timeless. Moviehole reports that the actor will play as a young man who iis haunted by the unresolved issues between himself & his late wife and uses the money she left to him to build a time machine so that she can see her for one final time. Written by Enchanted screenwriter Bill Kelly, the movie has a possibility of being a great love story. I’m sure that Hemsworth will be able to put The Last Song behind him, given that he is in two highly anticipated movies this year. Relativity Media will distribute the movie.

Turns out a whole slew of talent are updating their resumes in the hopes of being able to "Get a Job."
According to Variety, the CBS Films project from "Roger Dodger" director Dylan Kidd has yet to be greenlit, but is either in talks with or attaching actors the likes of "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston and "50/50" darling Anna Kendrick.
The company snagged the Black List script by Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel in 2009, which "follows a college graduate and his friends who have to lower their expectations about life as they enter the real world during a recession." Hmm, sounds timely, or as timely as a four-year economic slump can be.
Cranston and Kendrick aren't the only applicants for this "Job," as "Footloose" up-and-comer Miles Teller is up for one of the leads, along with Christopher "McLovin" Mintz-Plasse ("Kick-Ass") and "SNL" cast member Jay Pharaoh in supporting parts and...

Writer-director Dylan Kidd made an impression with his 2002 debut movie Roger Dodger, but has been mostly absent since until co-writing and directing 2004's little-seen P.S. and, most recently, directing episodes of the Adult Swim series Children's Hospital. Now Kidd is looking to get back to directing movies with the comedy Get a Job for CBS Films.
Variety reports that Miles Teller (Project X) is in negotiations to star in the movie as a college graduate who, along with his friends, attempts to enter the working world during a recession. Offers have been made to Anna Kendrick (Up In the Air, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) for unspecified roles, while Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass) and Jay Pharaoh (Saturday Night Live) could appear in the movie as well. Jesse Eisenberg, who co-starred in Kidd's Roger Dodger, would appear in a cameo.

[1] Eight years after his sophomore directorial effort P.S., Dylan Kidd is heading back into feature filmmaking with a new comedy for CBS Films titled Get a Job. And he's got his eye on some intriguing young stars (and Bryan Cranston) for the lead roles: Miles Teller is in talks for one of the leads, while offers have gone out to Cranston and Anna Kendrick for other roles. Meanwhile, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jay Pharoah, and Jesse Eisenberg, who starred in Kidd's debut Roger Dodger, are said to be circling as well. More details after the jump. Variety [2] reports that no deals are actually in place at this point, since CBS Films hasn't given the official green light. But if all goes well, production could start as early as next month. First acquired by CBS back in 2009, Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel's Black List [3] script revolves around a recent college grad and...

In one quick swoop, Get A Job has instantly become a project I hadn’t heard of to something I’m already getting excited about. After an eight-year break from feature film directing, writer-director Dylan Kidd is attached to direct the comedy for CBS films, and an impressive cast is already lining up for him, Variety report, via Collider.
Miles Teller, whose credits include Rabbit Hole, Footloose, and the upcoming teen party movie Project X (the latest trailer for which you can see here), is in negotiations to star, and offers are also out to the lovely Anna Kendrick and the unstoppable Bryan Cranston, whose recent credits include Drive, Contagion, The Lincoln Lawyer, and the upcoming John Carter, Rock of Ages, Madagascar 3, and Ben Affleck’s Argo, all shot in the off-seasons of his critically acclaimed and Emmy Award-winning TV series, Breaking Bad.

Eight years since his last film "Roger Dodger", filmmaker Dylan Kidd is returning to direct the comedy "Get a Job" for CBS Films and Double Feature Films says Variety.
Miles Teller ("Project X") is in negotiations to star while offers are out to Anna Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Jay Pharaoh. Jesse Eisenberg is also trying to be lured in for a cameo.

Just a couple of weeks ago I finally caught up with Dylan Kidd‘s 2002 debut — the dark, funny, wonderful Roger Dodger. Having such a positive reaction to a wholly unique film, imagine my disappointment upon seeing that the guy’s only directed one other, seemingly forgettable project since.
So that’s why I’m happy to hear (from Variety) that Kidd will follow-up his last feature, 2004′s P.S., with CBS Films’ Get a Job. The comedy doesn’t sound as though it’s in the same morbid vein as his first movie; instead, the Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel-written feature centers on “a college graduate and his friends who have to lower their expectations about life as they enter the real world during a recession.”
Casting is already underway for the film, with Project X‘s Miles Teller currently in talks, while Christopher Mintz-Plasse & SNL‘s Jay Pharaoh are also considering.

With the publication of the 2010 Black List another compilation of the year's best unproduced screenplays has arrived. This is the fifth year that The Black List has been in existence, and its purpose is to shine a spotlight on what 290 film executives think are some of the best creative executions of ideas worthy for the big screen.
To be nominated and included on The Black List a screenplay can't have been released in 2010. As well, the minimum number of votes that a screenplay needed to have to warrant inclusion on the list is five. Several of the projects listed on Tbl are in development and will be released in the next twelve months. Others might have heat but take years to reach theaters, and there are also many that will never be greenlighted.

Every year, film executive Franklin Leonard releases his list, called The Black List, of most-liked unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. This year's list was compiled from the suggestions of 290 film executives, each of whom picked up to ten of their favorite scripts. Since the list started in 2004, many screenplays ended up being turned into films. In 2005, two of the top three scripts were "Lars and the Real Girl" which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay Oscar, and "Juno" which actually won the Oscar. See The 2010 Black List below, broken up by how many votes each screenplay received. Keep in mind, some of the projects are already in the works. 49 Votes: * College Republicans (by Wes Jones): Based on true events. Aspiring politician Karl Rove runs a dirty campaign for national College Republican Chairman under the guidance of Lee Atwater, his campaign manager. 47 Votes: * Jackie (by Noah Oppenheim): Jackie Kennedy fights...

The Black List started in 2005 when Franklin Leonard was working for Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company. Leonard was getting drowned in sub-par spec scripts, so he sent an e-mail out to his industry contacts looking for the best unproduced scripts out there. The 2005 Black List and the 2006 Black List were undeniably important in getting a fresh batch of writers on the Hollywood scene. Since then, too many people know about the party and the studio system has learned that people are paying attention. That means that increasingly, scripts have been lobbied into the Black List. [Note: I have no actual evidence I would be able to share, disclose or show you that proves this, so file that assertion under: "Things Dave thinks and gets to write because he's squatted on that soapbox long enough to get squatter's rights."]This year: the majority of the Black List Top Ten has already been sold or optioned. I'm not sure how helpful it is to make a list of good In Production scripts. Certainly less helpful to writer's churning out material that keeps getting passed over (or people who have Not starred in Prison Break...

Back in 2004, a list was compiled of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood of that year. This came to be known as The Black List. It was all started by a young executive at Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way, who polled 90+ peers to send him their 10 favorite, new, unproduced screenplays to read over the holidays. It has since become a tradition at the end of every year, in December, to release this list, which is voted on by a group of individuals in the entertainment industry from producer assistants, talent agency individuals, and many people involved with film development all the way up to VP's.
The 2010 Black List is here, and thanks to Deadline we have the list of best unproduced screenplays. Most of the scripts we've heard of, many of them are in production, some have already wrapped filming, they just wont be released until next year.

Every year, studio executive Franklin Leonard compiles the “Black List,” a collection of the best unproduced screenplays as voted on by 300 execs and high-level assistants. The 2010 list is the sixth of its kind to bring additional awareness to Hollywood’s hottest scripts.
Topping the list this year is Wes Jones’ College Republicans, a Social Network-esque story (read my script review here) about the underhanded election of Karl Rove to a National College Republican seat, managed by strategy wunderkind Lee Atwater. Shia Labeouf is attached to play Atwater and Paul Dano as Rove. Previous Black List leaders include 2008’s The Beaver, which became a long-delayed film directed by Jodie Foster and starring Mel Gibson, and 2009’s The Muppet Man, which remains on the shelf.
Top 10 of 2010 (via the La Times). The Black List is available for download on the official website. Update: the rest added below:

The Black List has been released. The annual list is compiled with a poll of 300 (up from last year's 250) development executives and high-level assistants, and contains a ranking of the hot screenplays making the rounds in Hollywoodland, which were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2010 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Basically, the black list contains the hottest projects in Hollywood that you haven't heard of yet. Note: The headline is a slightly inaccurate, because a lot of these screenplays have already been acquired (six of the top ten listed), a bunch are in production now, and some have even finished production. One of this year's top ten screenplays, J.C. Chandor's Margin Call, about the last 24 hours at now-defunct investment bank Lehman Brothers is already in the can and set to premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival with Chandor at the helm...

Frank Leonard is the most popular man in Hollywood today. This fine December day marks the release of the 6th annual Black List, a ranked collection of the top un-produced screenplays in the town, compiled by Leonard. Last year the top script was The Muppet Man from Christopher Weekes about “the life and times of the late Jim Henson.” Coming in second was Aaron Sorkin‘s The Social Network script, which is a current frontrunner to sweep the Oscars. The year before was The Beaver, now starring Mel Gibson and set for a release in 2011.

Here comes a familiar story. After college, you have to get a job! And figure out how to pay your rent! It's amazing how many of us leave school ignoring these basic facts, so maybe it's actually a good thing that CBS Films is producing the comedy spec Get A Job, about college slackers who lower their life expectations when they hit the real world. Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel wrote the spec, according to THR, and also have a ton of spec in development at various studios around town. Presumably they're just two of many, many screenwriters who have had that same post-college shellshock, in which you realize no one actually wants to pay you for writing. Way to help us keep things in perspective, guys.
