Spoilers for "Attack on Titan" follow.
If you watch anime dubs, you'll notice a lot of the same voices coming out of different characters' mouths across many different series. That's because many series are dubbed by the same studios, which employ the same stable of actors. One of the biggest dubbing studios is Funimation. Founded in 1994 by since-retired Gen Fukunaga and based in the Dallas, Texas metro area, the studio rose to fame by dubbing "Dragon Ball Z." The company has since been merged with and rebranded as Crunchyroll, but the talent remains largely the same.
Some voice actors you might hear over and over in Funimation/Crunchyroll dubs include Chris Sabat, Colleen Clinkenbeard, and Mike McFarland. The latter is a particularly important lynchpin of the studio since he's not just a voice actor, but also an Adr director, writer, and line producer.

Sony Pictures Television-owned Funimation has launched a search for a new general manager, as founder Gen Fukunaga is stepping out of day-to-day management at the anime network/distributor into a chairman role.
The move comes 18 months Sony Pictures Television Networks acquired a 95% majority stake in Funimation for about $143 million, with Fukunaga retaining a minority stake.
As chairman, Fukunaga — who founded Funimation in 1994 after a career in It and consulting — said in an internal memo Friday that he will continue to oversee the business and will focus on relations with content partners.
“This change has been on the horizon since Sony took a majority interest in the company in 2017,” Fukunaga wrote. “And now is the right time to begin the transition, when Funimation is truly hitting its stride.”
According to Fukunaga, Funimation has a $130 million revenue run rate. It currently offers the FunimationNow subscription-streaming service in the U.S., Canada,...

Assassin’s Creed has come and gone. For a good year and a half, we speculated that it could potentially be the film that finally cracks the video game movie code. As I’m sure you noticed by now…that doesn’t seem to be the case. The flick didn’t click with either critics or fans, and its box office — while not a huge flop — isn’t really fortuitous of an impending genre of films. While Assassin’s Creed will by no means be the last video game to be turned into a flick, it may put a temporary pause on the idea of these films hitting it big. 2017 looks to potentially bring another type of film to Hollywood films: anime adaptations.
In 2017 alone, we’ll be getting the live-action Death Note film on Netflix, and of course, the ever-controversial Ghost in the Shell film, which stars Scarlett Johansson.

The other day we shared with you a trailer and several TV spots for a new, Japanese Godzilla movie. San Diego Comic-Con brings news that Godzilla: Resurgence, Toho’s creature feature that is a mere week away from its debut in Japan, will be released across the Americas before the year’s end.
Bearing the title Shin Godzilla in its native home, the studio considers Resurgence to be a “new chapter” in Gojira’s long-running history, and one that stands as a decidedly old-school tonic to Legendary and Gareth Edwards’ Hollywood blockbuster that stomped onto the scene in 2014. See the most recent trailer for evidence of that.
In anticipation of the international release, Funimation CEO and President Gen Fukunaga noted, “Shin Godzilla [Godzilla: Resurgence] represents a brand new chapter in the 62-year history of this iconic science-fiction monster. We’re excited to bring audiences this new vision of Godzilla from Toho as reimagined by directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi.” Helmed by Attack on Titan stalwarts Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi,...
