Sonny Day, one of the original members of
Roy Acuff's Smoky Mountain Boys, died on
February 6, 2005 of bone cancer in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 80
years old. Day was featured on the original recordings of Acuff's
signature hit "Wabash Cannonball". He was a regular on the Grand Ole
Opry radio show, and performed or recorded with many country music
stars, including
Patsy Cline,
Minnie Pearl,
Tanya Tucker, and
Vince Gill.
