Machete may not text but he do sequel. Director Robert Rodriguez has addressed claims by Machete himself, Danny Trejo, who said that he doubts Rodriguez even has the rights to make the threequel Machete Kills in Space.
First, some context. Trejo recently told Rob Zombie in Interview that he was under the impression that Rodriguez had sold the rights to Machete “to Russians or something,” thus halting the project permanently.
But Rodriguez quickly rebuked this, telling IndieWire that his old pal isn’t exactly up to date on his info. “I retain all the rights…We do plan to make another one, we just stopped saying that we are until we’re actually making it because of all the stories that come out saying, ‘They’re making it right now, they’re making it right now!’” With that, Rodriguez noted the connection he has to Machete, something no doubt shared by fans.

A cultural crusader strikes in L.A. Slasher, now streaming on Screambox.
Directed by Martin Owen and produced by Jeffrey Wright and Daniel Sollinger, the black comedy stars Mischa Barton (“The O.C.”), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Danny Trejo (Machete), and comedian Andy Dick as the voice of the killer.
L.A. Slasher is “a biting, social satire about reality TV and the glorification of people who are famous for simply being famous.”
The film also “explores why it has become acceptable and even admirable for people to become influential and wealthy based on no merit or talent – purely through notoriety achieved through shameful behavior.
“Incensed by the tabloid culture which celebrates it, the L.A. Slasher publicly abducts a series of reality TV stars, while the media and general public in turn begin to question if society is better off without them.”
Here’s the trailer.

Welcome to a stroll through the gallery of Danny Trejo’s most controversial roles. Known for his tough-guy persona, Trejo has tackled characters that have stirred the pot and raised eyebrows. But what exactly makes a role controversial? It’s when a character touches on sensitive themes, challenges societal norms, or provokes a strong public reaction. Now, let’s dive into the roles that have sparked conversations and sometimes even outrage. Machete Cuts Through Controversy Danny Trejo’s portrayal of Machete in ‘Machete’ (2010) is a vivid example of a character embroiled in controversy. The film, rife with themes of immigration and revenge, was...

The episode of Revisited covering Grindhouse was Written by Cody Hamman, Edited and Narrated by Lance Vlcek, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Quentin Tarantino. Robert Rodriguez. Rob Zombie. Edgar Wright. Eli Roth. Back in 2007, these five filmmakers joined forces, all contributing to the same project. A film that brings us sights like deformed, decomposing zombies. Vehicular homicide. Limbs replaced with weaponry. Danny Trejo wiping out bad guys. A holiday slasher. Supernatural beings dripping white goo. And even some Nazi werewolves. It was a fun experiment… and a box office bomb. The film is called Grindhouse (watch it Here) – and we think it’s time for it to be Revisited.
In the ‘90s, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez decided to collaborate on From Dusk Till Dawn, with Rodriguez directing from a screenplay by Tarantino. The result was one of the most entertaining vampire movies ever made.

Many of us have our Thanksgiving plans all lined up, but Eli Roth has some ideas of his own – for Thanksgiving, that is. If all goes as planned and his upcoming movie can scare the stuffing out of us, he hopes to keep coming home for the holidays…in a body bag.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Eli Roth said he can see Thanksgiving bringing about a whole calendar of holiday horror movies. “We didn’t really think too much beyond this movie, but as we were shooting, you start joking around going, ‘Oh yeah, we could do a movie set there, we could do this, we could do that. The Thanksgivingverse’…I mean, it’s completely up to the fans. But we had such a great time making it and the more you think about it, the more ideas you get…We were like, we don’t want to stop. It was one of those shoots.

Nell Verlaque stars in TriStar Pictures and Spyglass Media Group’s ‘Thanksgiving’
Way back in 2007, when Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez teamed up for the epic shlockfest Grindhouse, they got some of their pals to produce fake, genre-perfect trailers to go along with their two features. A couple of these, Machete and Hobo with a Shotgun, have actually been made into real movies since, but the one that fans have been clamoring to be produced is Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving. Finally, more than 15 years later, Roth has given the people what they want. Thanksgiving is here.
Set in the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Thanksgiving opens up with a riot at a Right-Mart Black Friday sale that, as all good Black Friday sales do, begins at 6:00pm on Thanksgiving Day. Lives are lost and lawsuits are settled, and one year later, everything is back to normal.

Grindhouse is one of the most influential box office failures of the 21st century. Despite grossing a paltry $25.4 million at the box office on a budget of around $60 million, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 love letter to exploitation cinema has managed to spawn four spin-off movies — Machete, Machete Kills, Hobo with a Shotgun, and now Thanksgiving— in addition to reintroducing a vintage aesthetic that has been mimicked by countless other throwback movies.
Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof each have their merits — the former plays like a satirical pastiche of nonstop action, while the latter is more indicative of genuine exploitation fare — but Grindhouse is more than just a double feature. It’s an experience, complete with faux aging to recreate the look of beat-up film prints along with vintage interstitials and retro-inspired trailers for nonexistent movies.

It's been years since we last got a "Star Wars" theatrical feature, and at this point, it is clear that the galaxy far, far away is actually right there in your living room. Whether it's animated shows like "The Bad Batch" and "Tales of the Jedi," or the mega-success of "The Mandalorian" and the creative genius of "Andor," TV has allowed the franchise to experiment with tones and different kinds of stories in ways it was never able to before.
And yet, "Star Wars" is stagnating, particularly when it comes to the Mando-Verse. "The Book of Boba Fett" was an utter disappointment, and the third season of "The Mandalorian" functioned as a mixed bag. Thankfully, "Star Wars" is soon expanding further beyond the Mando-Verse, and there is arguably no other "Star Wars" title as exciting as "The Acolyte," which promises to introduce a new time period and a new kind of "Star Wars" protagonist.

Carmen, Juni, and the rest of the Cortez family are back for another butt-kicking spy adventure. In April, Netflix announced that Robert Rodriguez, the original director of the 2000s action films, signed on to write and direct an upcoming "Spy Kids" reboot movie. Skydance Media optioned the film rights to Netflix with the intention of reimagining the spy thriller for a modern audience, according to Variety.
Officially titled "Spy Kids: Armageddon," the new project will be the fifth installment in the "Spy Kids" franchise, following the original 2001 "Spy Kids" and it's three sequels: "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams," "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over," and "Spy Kids: All the Time in the World." Machete don’t text and his real-life counterpart don’t put up with nonsense from producers and studio heads. Danny Trejo stepped out in support of his fellow actors amid the SAG-AFTRA strike last week outside of Paramount Pictures, saying, “We’re all on the Titanic looking for a good seat!”
Speaking with CNBC, Danny Trejo laid out his take on the strike as such: “All we’re asking is for everybody to be fair, that’s it. Just fair and…eveything’s gone up but our wages. So it’s like…we’re all not Tom Cruise,” whose net worth has been pegged around $600 million by some sources. Trejo also left a message for California governor Gavin Newsom, urging him to “Call me!” So maybe bump that to the top of the calendar, Gavin – Trejo is not a dude you want to mess with.

The producers of CNBC’s “The Profit” have beaten a $30 million arbitration lawsuit filed by the trustee of a bankrupt contestant that appeared on the show in 2015.
Last year, Lynn E. Feldman, Esquire, the Chapter 7 trustee for the estate of Pennsylvania design company Precise Graphix, LLC, sued NBCUniversal, Camping World Inc., a vehicle retailer partially owned by Marcus Lemonis, and the production company Machete for $30 million in damages, alleging that the show committed fraud and breach of contract that led to the company’s bankruptcy in 2021.
In May, an arbitrator dismissed those claims, finding that they were “unsupported by competent, credible evidence.”
“Given the complete failure of competent, credible evidence supporting her allegations at the hearing, the Trustee cannot establish the required elements of the fourteen causes of action alleged in the Demand,” arbitrator Ann Jones wrote in the ruling revealed in bankruptcy court documents on Wednesday. “Even if one...

The path to Robert Rodriguez's "Machete" was circuitous. When Rodriguez and his friend Quentin Tarantino made their 2007 film "Grindhouse," they attempted to recreate a 1970s exploitation movie experience by providing two separate features, each one marked by missing reels, bad print jobs, and visual scratches on the print itself. "Grindhouse" also famous featured a series of previews for coming attractions that didn't exist. Edgar Wright invented a film called "Don't," while Eli Roth invented a fictional slasher movie called "Thanksgiving." Rob Zombie conceived of a horror movie called "Werewolf Women of the S.S." starring Nicolas Cage, and Rodriguez himself kicked off the "Grindhouse" experience with a fake movie called "Machete."
In the fake "Machete" preview, Danny Trejo played the title character, a vengeful Mexican mercenary, once a Federale, who gets into a series of seemingly unconnected violent shenanigans. He was also quite proficient at charming young women. Machete...

Sixteen years ago, directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino teamed up to bring us the awesome double feature Grindhouse – which consisted of not just Rodriguez’s movie Planet Terror and Tarantino’s movie Death Proof, but also several faux trailers made by the likes of Eli Roth, Edgar Wright, Rob Zombie, and Rodriguez himself. Roth’s faux trailer was for the slasher Thanksgiving, which is finally happening as a full feature. Rodriguez’s faux trailer was for the action movie Machete, which became a feature in 2010, and did well enough that a sequel titled Machete Kills followed in 2013. Machete Kills also had a faux trailer in it, one for another Machete sequel: Machete Kills Again… in Space. And since that faux trailer promised our hero Machete would return, fans have been clamoring for that sequel to happen for ten years now. Speaking at the SXSW film festival, Rodriguez admitted that...

Director Robert Rodriguez‘s action thriller Hypnotic, which stars Ben Affleck, will be screening for potential international distributors at the European Film Market at the end of this week, but a few days before that screening is held Deadline reports that the movie has secured a U.S. distribution deal… and the plan is for Hypnotic to get a theatrical release sometime this summer.
Hypnotic has had a bumpy ride on its way to this distribution deal. When the 65 million movie was heading into production in late 2021, it was the flagship project for mini-studio Solstice, which was the main financier and was going to be the U.S. distributor. But when Hypnotic finally got rolling after waiting through multiple delays, Solstice imploded and the movie was left without a U.S. distributor. Quite a blow for the international investors who had been promised Hypnotic would get a 2000 screen theatrical release in the U.

Renegades is one of those movies that on paper has all the makings of a solid direct to DVD hit. A sizeable cast of mid-tier names that you will not only know but also have a sort of nostalgic endearment toward and that’s a great thing for you guys because they do a huge service in elevating the material and hiding any problems. A story that while not exactly breaking any new ground is just this side of madcap shenanigans so that there’s a slight air of believability to its proceedings. We are talking London gangsters, low budgets and a cast and crew that doesn’t just believe in the project but are doing...

Danny Trejo has no plans to retire.
The craggy-faced Latino action star spent decades in the B-movie trenches, playing ex-cons and bodyguards, tough guys and prison thugs —drawing inspiration from his real-life stints in California state facilities in San Quentin, Soledad, Folsom, and Vacaville—before becoming “a Mexican superhero” with Robert Rodriguez’s Machete series. But at 78, Trejo continues to chop his way through roles silly, schlocky and (occasionally) sublime.
His 22 credits this year to date, a pretty average annual output for Trejo, include a couple high-profile projects: voicing Stronghold in Universal’s animated blockbuster Minions: The Rise of Gru, a cameo as Rancor Keeper in Disney+ Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett, alongside a slew of starring roles in straight-to-online fare whose titles tell you all you need to know about their content: Vampfather, A Tale of Two Guns, Renegades,...

Exclusive: Buffalo 8 has set the digital release of Duality for October 21, Ryan Dowling’s documentary that was granted unprecedented access to an all-star roster of graffiti and street artists.
Once brushed aside – even deemed criminal – graffiti has since paved the way for many successful, credible artists today. With Duality, these street artists – some for the first time, some maintaining a strict code of anonymity – discuss their journeys from “tagging” to becoming respected icons in the cities they serve with pieces that are awe-inspiring in scope, size and complexity. They have collectively proven that their genre of art is something that can influence culture, evoke emotion, inspire, and cultivate community. Their rise has not been without challenges and criticism, but today they are admired by throngs of fans and oftentimes the art they produce brings in revenue for household brands and worldwide corporations. No longer relegated to back alleys, their works...

Chile’s foremost industry forum Sanfic Industria wrapped Friday Aug. 19 with a wealth of prizes doled out to projects from across Latin America and Spain.
Still reeling from the pandemic, the forum’s 11th year saw another hybrid edition but a definite upsurge in attendance. The various sections included Wip Ibero-American, Santiago Lab: Fiction and Documentary, Sanfic-Mórbido Lab, Sanfic Series and the new space created for female producers, Productoras Lab.
Most telling, a number of projects from small countries and by women directors as well as upcoming new talent triumphed at the forum this year.
Bolivian drama “Diamond,” the feature debut of Yashira Jordan that follows an Indigenous trap-singing teen as she searches for her estranged father, took home the most prizes in the Santiago Lab Fiction section, with three honors, including the Bdc Co-Production award.
Guatemala’s “Kicks of Soil” by Indigenous filmmaker Leyzer Chiquin and Chilean Constanza Figari’s second feature,...
