The mood on Monday was upbeat for actors, who felt that the end of their strike is near as talks between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP resumed.
Several actors outside of Paramount Studios in Los Angeles told TheWrap that they believed a deal could come as early as that same day, or possibly by Friday, now that the WGA and the studios finally came to terms on ending the months-long writers’ strike.
“We feel like we see the end in sight,” said Anita Kalathara, whose credits include “Lady Bird” and “India Sweets and Spices.”
She and another actress were walking the line with a friend from the WGA. At least half of the picketers outside Paramount held picket signs that read “Wgaw Stands With SAG-AFTRA.” A former WGA strike captain said that the writers’ guild had had the new signs made to show their continued solidarity for the actors.

"The Walking Dead" ended its 11th and last season with a bang. While three spinoffs are coming soon, including "Dead City," it was the final farewell to the flagship series. Throughout its run, diehard fans came to care deeply about its characters and were glued to their televisions, hooked into stories about survival and keeping humanity intact. Characters such as Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) made the show what it quickly became — a ratings juggernaut. It may not have reached the creative heights of "Breaking Bad" or "Game of Thrones," but it had immense heart. When a character was put on the chopping block, it was often a devastating, soul-rattling experience.
Across 11 seasons, there were plenty of deaths that broke millions of hearts. Whether you're talking about that Season 2 barn reveal, the emergency C-section, or that baseball bat scene in Season 7, the show relentlessly forced its audience to face death and perhaps question their mortality.

Lucas Heyne’s feature directing debut Mope will have its world premiere later this month in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival. Deadline has the first look at the movie co-written by Zack Newkirk and Heyne and produced by Parkside Pictures in association with Saxton Cinema & Uncooperative Pictures.
The drama is based on the true story of a real-life murder in 2010 at a San Fernando Valley porn company. That’s where Stephen Clancy Hill, a mope (slang for a wannabe porn star), who was living in the company’s warehouse at the time, went on a rampage with a sword when he was told he was fired. He eventually killed his friend and fellow mope Herbert Wong, who tried to intervene when Hill was attacking two others. Hill was killed in a standoff with police five days later.

The content that has become available through the paid streaming subscription service YouTube Red has kicked into high gear in 2016, with original movies and TV shows flooding the platform. The latest of these – The Thinning – is released on the service on October 12th 2016, and a new trailer has been released in advance of that debut.
Written and directed by Michael J. Gallagher (Interns), and co-written by Steve Greene (Puppet Cop), this science-fiction horror film focuses on a version of the future in which authorities are taking drastic action as part of an effort to manage population control. Eligibility for continued survival is determined by the administration of a High School aptitude test – and those that fail are disposed of. Evidently, there is something of a student revolt as teenagers attempt to take on the system and save their own lives.

"Are you ready for test day?" YouTube Red has unveiled the first trailer for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller titled The Thinning, from writer/director Michael J. Gallagher. Set in the future, the story focuses on a high school aptitude test that is used to manage the population. Two students, played by Logan Paul and Peyton List, discover the test isn't what it seems and may actually be covering up a bigger conspiracy. This sounds kind of like Logan's Run, but revised to a high school level "aptitude test". The full cast includes Lia Marie Johnson, Calum Worthy, Matthew Glave, Michael Traynor and Ryan Newman. This looks like a mix of Hunger Games and a bunch of other much better sci-fi, but that may be why it's direct to VOD. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Michael J. Gallagher's The Thinning, direct from YouTube: YouTube's The Thinning takes place in...

A round-up on the practical effects Greg Nicotero and co. used to achieve memorable moments in The Walking Dead (incl. Carl's hair)…
Warning: contains spoilers for The Walking Dead seasons 1-6. And gory images. Ugh.
Hairdressers exist after the undead apocalypse. We know this to be the case in The Walking Dead not only because we met one—Rick’s ill-fated girlfriend Jessie—but because the majority of characters have been able to maintain some kind of post-global destruction ‘do. Carol has a pixie crop. Daryl sports a complicated homage to Link from Zelda, and you could happily roll marbles around on Abraham’s flat-top all the live-long day.
One character though, has thus far defied the scissors: Carl Grimes. And now, after the events of season 6B, we know why.
“There’s a reason why [Carl’s] hair’s so long,” VFX veteran and director Greg Nicotero said in this Kimberley Potts interview.

Update: Well, Episode 3 played out as advertised, and they want us to think Glenn is dead. Do you buy it? He wasn't in the "Talking Dead" In Memoriam. It's possible Nicholas's blood and guts covered him. Maybe the herd will be distracted away from Glenn's body by another loud noise, giving him a chance to escape. If Glenn were truly gone, Steven Yeun would've had a presence on "Talking Dead," and he'd be all over the post-show interviews. Don't expect this to be resolved quickly, though. It may take a few episodes to return to this moment.

For a community trying to build a civilization, the people of Alexandria have always been myopic. Unable to truly look at the bigger picture or to focus on more than one thing at a time, they betray a nearsightedness that has cost them some of their own people while the wolves circled ever closer.
In the season finale of The Walking Dead, "Conquer," Rick (Andrew Lincoln) managed, once again, to convince people that his way is the best way. Also, Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) was the worst, yet again, and one of our main heroes was nearly killed. An old friend finally returned,...

There have been some really well-chosen songs used in this season of The Walking Dead, but there was no more apt way to open "Try" than with Nine Inch Nails' "Somewhat Damaged."
The episode began with the aftermath of Aiden's (Daniel Bonjour) death, which was partly due to his own stupidity and unwillingness to listen – a fairly common disease among the population of Alexandria. Carol (Melissa McBride) tried to make nice by leaving a tuna casserole on the Monroes' doorstep with a note that read, "We're truly sorry for your loss." Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh) left the casserole and brought...

A Necessary Death is a faux documentary from writer/director Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism). It follows student filmmaker Gilbert (G.J. Echternkamp) as he produces his senior project, a documentary about suicide. His crew, Valerie (Valerie Hurt) and Michael (Michael Traynor), are less comfortable with it, but they get sucked into the project once they pick the film's subject Matt (Matthew Tilley), a young man with terminal cancer. As they explore Matt's life and document the way he plans to kill himself, Valerie and Michael grow closer to Matt and feel increasingly uneasy about standing by while he kills himself.
Throughout the entire ordeal, Gilbert is an insufferable pseudo-artist who throws around lines about pushing buttons and how art isn't really art if it doesn't upset audiences. In reality, he is blinded by his own ambition to the point where he insists that the suicidal subject of his documentary must...

Chicago – Daniel Stamm’s “A Necessary Death” was such a conversation starter on the film festival scene that it essentially served as the calling card that got its director the job helming the excellent and underrated “The Last Exorcism.” In many ways, “And” is a better film. It’s a challenging work that uses a taboo subject in daring ways and is clearly the work of a talent to watch. It’s also finally available on DVD after years of being held back from the market (it was first released in 2008). Don’t miss it.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
A documentary filmmaker takes out an ad looking for someone who wants to die. He wants to make a film about something that we still don’t truly understand and most people aren’t willing to talk about — suicide. We’re scared to talk about suicide. Most of us don’t understand it or its motivations.
