Plot: Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings is a washed-up ex-professional football star who has hit rock bottom. When Jaycen is sentenced to community service coaching the Underdoggs, an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown of Long Beach, California, he sees it as an opportunity to rebuild his public image and turn his life around. As Jaycen works to transform the foul-mouthed Underdoggs into top-notch champions, he reconnects with his past, including an old flame and a few of his ex-teammates, and rediscovers his love of the game.
Review: Underdog stories have always been popular fodder for movies. Redemption stories about athletes and tales of scrappy kids needing a mentor are equally popular. From The Bad News Bears to Little Giants and The Mighty Ducks, sports comedies have always found success. With The Underdoggs, that appeal is tested by taking the formula that made those aforementioned films successful and injecting them...

The sidelines at the University of Colorado football games have resembled Grammy and Oscar week in L.A. since Deion Sanders, aka “Coach Prime,” took over as head football coach this season. A-listers from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Kawhi Leonard have shown up to see the Buffaloes run the field, and the star power is poised to continue as the team takes on UCLA at the already sold-out Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena on Saturday.
“I can assure you as a sports commentator and reporter for years, I’ve never had any reason to talk about the University of Colorado football,” says Stephen A. Smith, host of ESPN’s First Take. “Never thought about it until he arrived there. I’d never been to Boulder, Colorado, in my life. I’ve already been there twice. Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell is getting as docuseries as he wanna be. Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is among the producers behind “Coach Luke,” which chronicles the one-time 2 Live Crew frontman as he became a entrepreneur and the head coach of the Edison Senior High School football team in Miami. Mandon Lovett directs the docuseries, which is exec produced by Smac Entertainment’s Constance Schwartz-Morini, Michael Strahan and FredAnthony Smith; Swirl Films’ Eric Tomosunas and Nikki Byles; and Brian Sher and Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders. No outlet is yet attached.
Campbell, of course, is remembered for the popular late 1980s/early 1990s rap group 2 Live Crew — which managed to even hit the Billboard charts with song titles that Casey Kasem wouldn’t say out loud on “American Top 40.” But 2 Live Crew’s lasting impact was its First Amendment fights, via Campbell and the group’s obscenity trials and Supreme Court parody cases.

Amid Hollywood’s double strikes and a recent resurgence of Covid-19, rolling with the punches is a necessary quality for those looking to enter the entertainment industry, according to FredAnthony Smith, who serves as head of nonscripted development at “Bs High” producer Smac Entertainment, which was co-founded by Constance Schwartz-Morini and Michael Strahan.
“Part of the job is planning, and being very detailed… but also knowing that as soon as you wake up the next day, getting ready to enact that plan, you’re gonna have to rip the plan up, because something’s gonna go wrong,” Smith told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View. “At the very beginning of the day, something’s going to happen where you have to completely change your plan.”
It’s not just trying to guess when the guilds and studios might come back to the negotiating table or navigating a stubbornly persistent pandemic.

Michael Strahan wasn’t nervous to go to space. He wasn’t antsy about playing in the most-watched event of the year. He’s not overwhelmed by being live in front of millions each morning. But receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? Now that’s scary.
“I’m so nervous about this — of all the things in the world,” he says about the star he will receive on Jan. 23. “It’s beyond even my comprehension, knowing where I started and what this all signifies for me, it’s overwhelming.”
Where he started is a bit different than most NFL players; he didn’t begin playing football until his senior year of high school. One season was enough to get him a scholarship to Texas Southern University. He graduated in 1993 and headed to the NFL, signing with the New York Giants, the team he remained with for his entire 15-year career.
