“The finale ends crazy. I know last year was crazy,” Fire Country star, creator, and executive producer Max Thieriot says. Season 1 ended with it looking like Bode (Thieriot) would be getting his freedom, only for him to shock his friends and family at his parole hearing by taking responsibility for drugs at Three Rock. He wasn’t back in prison long, though, and was back at Three Rock by the end of the Season 2 premiere. Now, starting with Season 2 Episode 8, “we really start building this arc for a lot of these characters to where they end up landing in Episode 10. And so I think it’s really fun to be able to follow that from [Episodes] 8, 9, and 10 and sort of try and predict where things are going to end up,” Thieriot tells TV Insider. “Because I think maybe some people will guess some things, but there’s certainly things that people are not going to guess.

One thing is clear on Fire Country: There will always be love between Bode (Max Thieriot) and Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila). But right now, she’s planning to marry someone else, and Bode spent a significant amount of time with Diego (Rafael De La Fuente) while the paramedic tried to save Cara‘s (Sabina Gadecki) life in the fifth episode of the season. But could Bode actually stand back and watch Gabriela marry someone else? “We’re going to find out, I’ll tell you that,” Thieriot tells TV Insider. “It’s like his heart is split, right? One part of his heart really just wants the best for her. And after this experience in Episode 5, he really believes that Diego is a great person for her to be with. But then I think the other side of his heart is breaking into a million pieces because he believes that she is his person.

With Max Thieriot star, creator, executive producer, and occasional director of Fire Country on CBS (currently airing its second season and already renewed for a third), he is busy. But with Seal Team, on which he played Clay Spenser for six seasons until his character was shockingly killed off (due to scheduling with Fire Country), ending with its upcoming seventh and final season, we can’t help but wonder if we could see Clay one more time, in some sort of flashback. “I would’ve loved to have gone and done that, but I think they’re preparing to film the rest of their season right now, and I know they’re going to Colombia,” Thieriot tells TV Insider. “So I don’t think, as far as I’m aware of, unfortunately there’s not any plan for that, unless they call me at the last minute.” When we spoke...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 6 “Alert the Sheriff.”] Fire Country could be expanding with a new spinoff, centered on the sheriff’s office, and the latest episode introduces Morena Baccarin as Mickey, who also happens to be Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister. It’s not a backdoor pilot—this is very much an episode of Fire Country, though one that does introduce us to a different part of Edgewater—but it does give us an idea of what we could see, in part, if a new series does happen. We meet Mickey in a helicopter, chasing down a suspect for money laundering; when he dumps the cash out, the Three Rock inmates immediately grab it, then Sharon’s the one to bring it to the sheriff’s office. It’s through the scenes with Sharon and Bode that we get to know more about Mickey. (They’re ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 6 “Alert the Sheriff.”] “I didn’t sleep much, but it was a lot of fun,” series star, creator, and executive producer Max Thieriot says of directing the latest episode of Fire Country. That’s because a lot happens. It introduces Morena Baccarin as Mickey, Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister. (Mickey also arrested Thieriot’s Bode in the past.) An inmate, after realizing he’ll probably die of cancer before he earns his freedom, escapes Three Rock; Mickey, with Bode’s help, tracks him and the corrupt sheriff down. And the paternity results come in, revealing that Bode is, in fact, not Genevieve’s (Alix West Lefler) dad. Below, Thieriot talks about that paternity reveal, what it means for Bode, introducing Mickey, and more. Plus, let us know your thoughts on the potential new sheriff-centric series we could see here. Bode isn’t Genevieve’s father.

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from Friday’s episode of Fire Country on CBS.
In Friday’s episode dubbed “This Storm Will Pass,” the Edgewater firefighters encounter their first firenado that ends up taking the life of someone very close to the team.
Here, showrunner Tia Napolitano and executive producers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan explain why it made sense to say goodbye to a character who was first introduced in season one, and how the Cal Fire team — especially Bode (Max Thieriot) — will respond going forward.
Deadline: So was this your first firenado?
Joan Rater: Yes, we’re firenado virgins?
Tia Napolitano: We ask all the writers to come in with the most interesting incidents, big or small, at the top of the season. Someone pitched a firenado. Obviously that’s on the big end of the spectrum and we all gravitated toward it really early.

It's not uncommon to see a successful TV show start talking about spinoffs. We have seen it done on several franchises, from FBI to NCIS to the One Chicago universe.
With the difficulty of getting high rankings and extra seasons, it makes sense (sort of) for TV execs to expand a storyline with new characters to turn into spinoffs. Why take the chance on a new series when you know you've got a current hit?
However, these moves also risk overexposure for the characters we love. I love a good crossover as much as the next person. But sometimes they be doing too much.
Is that the future for the already flailing ongoing series Fire Country and its new potential upcoming spinoff Sheriff Country? Let's discuss!
What is Fire Country?
Many primetime TV viewers fell in love with Max Thieriot in his supporting role as Clay Spencer on Seal Team.

Fire Country has found immense success on Friday nights for CBS.
The firefighting drama stars Max Thieriot from Seal Team (Clay Spenser) and Bates Motel (Dylan Massett). He plays Bode Donovan (Leone).
The network has had lots of success with its NCIS Universe and the trio of FBI shows, so CBS wants to see if a Fire Country spin-off will work.
An upcoming episode of Fire Country is called Alert the Sheriff, and it is a planned backdoor pilot.
If CBS is happy with fan response and how the new characters work within the world of Fire Country, that episode will springboard into a new show called Sheriff Country.
This is called a backdoor pilot, where the characters from a planned show appear first on the primary show. Main characters for NCIS: Los Angeles appeared in a two-episode arc of NCIS, while Chicago P.D. characters first appeared on Chicago Fire for NBC.

Fire Country viewers will have to wait a while to learn what happened to Bode (Max Thieriot).
It’s frustrating for Fire Country fans to have the show be Mia again after only one new episode aired in March.
Season 2 of Fire County has only had four new episodes air so far.
The reason for that, of course, was because of the Writers Strike and the SAG/AFTRA strike pushing the 2023/2024 TV season into early 2024.
While many people thought TV shows would run all-new episodes until May because of the delay that is not the case.
At least this preemption for Fire Country is for a good reason, as opposed to CBS simply airing a repeat of the show.
Why isn’t Fire Country on tonight?
Fire Country isn’t on tonight because of March Madness. That’s right, it’s the time of year again when CBS becomes all about college basketball.

Fire Country has been heating up since it touched down on CBS in 2022.
Thanks to its stellar cast, soapy storylines, and everything you’d expect from a Chicago Fire wannabe, it has secured a big audience.
With the show still early into its second season, there are questions about whether it will continue for additional seasons.

So far, only three episodes of Fire Country Season 2 have aired, but a lot has happened—and there’s much more to come, including the introduction of a new character who could be a big part of this world if a spinoff does, in fact, happen. Already this season, we’ve seen Bode (Max Thieriot) get out of prison and learn he might be a father, Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) move on from him and get engaged (to Rafael De La Fuente‘s Diego), Sharon (Diane Farr) and Vince (Billy Burke) at least starting to take steps towards talking about the problems between them, and job changes across Three Rock and Station 42. So what’s still ahead? When we spoke with Farr, she offered some teases about the next few episodes. An upcoming episode is introducing Morena Baccarin’s sheriff. What’s Sharon’s relationship like with her? I feel like...

Her personal life heated up, too, with Liam (Jason O’Mara), whom she’d worked alongside while she was away fighting fires, coming to town thinking something could happen between them. Vince (Billy Burke) punched him. Then, the two men had to work side-by-side to help Sharon during the fire. But Sharon made it very clear that she wants her husband, and it looks like the two are going to start fighting for their relationship. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fire Country Season 2 Episode 2 “Like Breathing Again.”] “It was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” Fire Country star Kevin Alejandro admits when it came to directing a scene in the latest episode: His character’s daughter, Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila), took on a dangerous cave rescue. Gabriela saved the victim and was fine … meaning she can now focus on what her father had to tell her after. Manny said that her mother didn’t abandon them, but rather, he was never there for her. And so he encourages her to invite her to her upcoming wedding to Diego (Rafael De La Fuente). Below, Alejandro takes us inside directing the episode, talks Manny’s new role at 42, relationships with Gabriela, Bode (Max Thieriot), and Sharon (Diane Farr), and more.
