It was a day in which India thrived on a pitch which had some grass on it. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked four wickets each to bowl out Bangladesh for 227 in 73.5 overs, with a returning Mominul Haque being the lone ranger with a stroke-filled and calm 84.
In the final session, Mehidy Hasan Miraz hit a couple of boundaries before nicking behind to Rishabh Pant off Umesh. The pacer had another wicket in quick succession when he got one to come in and trap Nurul Hasan lbw. Umesh had his fourth wicket when Taskin Ahmed went for a...

Dhaka, Dec 22 (Ians) Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first against India in the second and final Test of the series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here on Thursday.
Another victory in Dhaka will, apart from securing a Test series sweep in Bangladesh, also help India consolidate their second-place standing in the World Test Championship points table, behind toppers Australia.
Stand-in India captain K.L. Rahul revealed that left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat has replaced left-arm wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, in the playing eleven. “Hard decision on Kuldeep but we know Ashwin and Axar can find spin, and bring Jaydev in to cover all bases. Unfortunate decision for us to leave him (Kuldeep) out but it’s an opportunity for Unadkat.”
The Dhaka Test will be just the second appearance for Unadkat in the longer format for India. His only appearance so far in Tests came almost 12 years ago,...

Chattogram, Dec 14 (Ians) Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer got India back on track against Bangladesh through an unbeaten 62-run stand to take the visitors to 174/4 in 56 overs at tea break.
Though India batted a little slower than in the first session, they managed to get back into the match in the second session. Despite Rishabh Pant’s counterattack being tamely ended by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Iyer brought out his usual attacking shots against the spinners intermittently to be 41 not out, while Pujara was as solid as a rock in his unbeaten 42.
In the first over post lunch, wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan dropped Pujara’s catch off Ebadot Hossain despite him making a full stretch to his right. Pant carried on his good work from the first session, nailing pull and slash off backfoot, before slog-sweeping Mehidy over deep mid-wicket for six.

For Bangladesh, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam picked two wickets while Khaled Ahmed had a scalp against his name in a wonderful morning session for the hosts.
Electing to bat first on a seemingly good batting pitch, which had just a hint of nip and the odd ball stayed a tad low, Rahul got off the mark with an inner edge on the flick going through fine leg.
With the pacers giving some width, Rahul latched on by slashing hard through gully, while Gill scythed through cover point. Rahul then welcomed Shakib Al Hasan by cutting fiercely off backfoot, while Gill continued to slash and pull...

Dhaka, Dec 7 (Ians) After a Player of the Match performance in the first Odi against India, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was once again the nemesis of the visitors on Wednesday at the same venue, making his maiden hundred in the 50-over format coming off just 83 balls to lead Bangladesh to a series victory.

Dhaka, Dec 7 (Ians) India skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that his bowlers need to work on their bowling in the middle as well as in the back-end overs after losing the series to Bangladesh through a five-wicket loss in the second Odi.
For the second time in as many matches, India’s bowlers allowed Bangladesh’s batting order to recover and get over the line. On Sunday, last-wicket pair of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman took advantage of India’s sloppiness in the last six overs to give Bangladesh a win in the first Odi.
On Wednesday, the visitors’ squandered the advantage of reducing the hosts’ to 69/6 by allowing Mehidy to hit an unbeaten 83-ball century, and him stitching a 148-run stand with Mahmudullah (77) in a stunning recovery for Bangladesh to make 271/6. India’s bowlers conceded 68 runs in the last five overs, while in the last 10 overs they leaked a whopping 102 runs.

Dhaka, Dec 7 (Ians) Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and an injured Rohit Sharma hit valiant half-centuries, but their efforts went in vain as India lost the second Odi to Bangladesh in a thrilling encounter at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (Sbncs) in here, on Wednesday.
After Mehidy Hasan Miraz turned out to be India’s nemesis for the second time in as many matches by scoring an unbeaten 83-ball century while veteran batter Mahmudullah made a fine 77 to carry Bangladesh to a respectable 271/7 in 50 overs from being 69/6 at one stage, their bowlers were clinical in reducing India to 65/4 in 18.3 overs.

Dhaka, Dec 5 (Ians) Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar believes the Rohit Sharma-led side not scoring 70-80 more runs is the chief reason behind them losing the first Odi to Bangladesh by a solitary wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (Sbncs) in Mirpur.
Despite having a line-up where batting resources were available till number nine, India had a disappointing time with the bat on a slow pitch, skittled for a paltry 186 in 41.2 overs, barring Kl Rahul, who made a fine 73 off 70 balls.
Left-arm spin all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan used his line, length and crease well to pick 5/36 on a tricky pitch for the batters while fast-bowler Ebadot Hossain was consistent in his usage of short balls to scalp 4/47.
Gavaskar also refused to believe that Rahul’s dropped catch of Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the batter was on 15 in the 43rd over played a decisive role in India’s loss.

Dhaka, Dec 4 (Ians) When Bangladesh were reduced to 136/9 in the 40th over, from being 128/4 and triggered by senior pros Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim falling on consecutive deliveries, Bangladesh seemed all but out of the chase as an Indian victory seemed imminent.
But Mehidy Hasan Miraz, along with Mustafizur Rahman, had other ideas. As Rahman defended and hit two fours in his ten not out, Mehidy sliced, scooped, pulled, and punched to be unbeaten on 38, hitting four fours and two sixes to complete a stunning come-from-behind victory for Bangladesh.
As India melted under pressure as drop catches, fielding lapses, overthrows and wayward bowling made appearances in the last six overs, Mehidy and Mustafizur grew in confidence to launch a stunning last-wicket counter-attack to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the three-match series and be the heroes for Bangladesh.

Dhaka, Dec 4 (Ians) Shakib Al Hasan starred with a sensational fifer while Mehidy Hasan Miraz held his nerve to slam an unbeaten cameo and guide Bangladesh to a famous one-wicket victory over India in a low-scoring thriller of the Odi series opener at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (Sbncs) in Mirpur on Sunday.
In a match that ebbed and flowed, Bangladesh seemed to be on their way to chasing 187 after Shakib’s 5-36 and Ebadot Hossain’s 4-47 bowled India for a paltry 186 in 41.2 overs. But the Indian bowlers, led by Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar, triggered a Bangladesh collapse from 128/4 to 136/9 in a span of 26 balls.
With the hosts looking down and out, the result seemed like a foregone conclusion. But Mehidy, mostly farming the strike, had other ideas — slicing short balls from debutant Kuldeep Sen over the third man for a brace of sixes in the 41st over.

Dhaka, Dec 3 (Ians) With T20 World Cups happening in 2021 and 2022, there was very little focus on Odi cricket. But now with the 2023 Odi World Cup less than 12 months, suddenly the format seems to have gained high importance in the eyes of teams and fans.
After a young side went to New Zealand and lost the only Odi of the series with the next two matches being rain-affected, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Kl Rahul are back as India brace themselves for the challenge from Bangladesh in the series opener on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (Sbncs) in Mirpur, Dhaka.
The ODIs against Bangladesh will also mark the re-uniting of Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli as the top three. Since the 2019 World Cup, the trio have featured in just 12 ODIs together.
It remains to be seen if the opening pair of Rohit and Dhawan will be able to give...

He steps in for Tamim Iqbal, their regular skipper and leading run-getter in the format, who has been ruled out of the series against India after suffering a grade-one groin strain in training on Wednesday.
“Liton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well,” Jalal Yunus, Bcb cricket operation committee chairman was quoted as saying in an official release.
This will be the first time Das will be captaining Bangladesh in an Odi series and will become their 15th captain in the 50-over format.

Christchurch, Oct 9 (Ians) Devon Conway top-scored with a scintillating 70 not out while Michael Bracewell and Ish Sodhi took two wickets each in New Zealand’s eight-wicket win over Bangladesh in the ongoing T20I tri-series at Hagley Oval, here on Sunday.
After Bracewell (2/14), Sodhi (2/31), along with the fast bowling duo of Trent Boult (2/25) and Tim Southee (2/34) restricted Bangladesh to a lowly 137/8, Conway shared a match-winning 85-run stand with skipper Kane Williamson (30) for the second wicket to chase down the total in 17.5 overs.
Pushed into batting first, Bangladesh’s batting issues continued as their top-order batters just didn’t get going. After Southee took out Mehidy Hasan Miraz early, Sodhi and Bracewell took four wickets for 45 runs from New Zealand’s eight overs of spin bowling to leave Bangladesh at 78/5 in 13.3 overs.
Sodhi also became the fifth bowler overall and third from New Zealand to take 100 T20I wickets. Wicketkeeper Nurul...

Christchurch, Oct 7 (Ians) Wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan scored an unbeaten 78 and carried his bat throughout the innings as Pakistan kick-started their campaign in the tri-series in New Zealand with a 21-run win over Bangladesh at the Hagley Oval on Friday.
After Rizwan’s belligerent knock laced with seven fours and two sixes took Pakistan to 167/5, pacer Mohammad Wasim Jnr and left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz took three and two wickets respectively to restrict Bangladesh to 146/8 in 20 overs.
Pushed into batting first, Rizwan and captain Babar Azam (22 off 25 balls) added 52 runs for the first wicket in 7.1 overs. The ever-consistent opener, who hit his sixth half-century in last eight T20I innings, then added 42 more runs with Shan Masood, who made 31 off 22 deliveries.
Shan Masood (31 off 22) was Pakistan’s other key contributor, as Haider Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed and Asif Ali couldn’t contribute much to reduce the tension around Pakistan’s fragile middle order.

Dhaka, Sep 22 (Ians) Bangladesh will be without the services of their skipper Shakib Al Hasan for the tour of UAE, as they amp up preparations for the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Shakib misses out on the 17-member squad due to his ongoing participation in the Caribbean Premier League. In Shakib’s absence, Nurul Hasan, who is returning from a finger injury will lead the side.
The squad is mainly made up of players named in the team for the T20 World Cup in October. But in Shakib’s absence, Bangladesh have included three of the four reserve players who have been named on standby for Australia.

The next day, I was asked to pick my favourites for the tournament — the teams likely to be in the final and the players to watch out for.
The Asia Cup has always been a keenly-contested tournament. Irrespective of the format (T20 or 50 over), no nation has shown breakaway domination since the tournament’s inception. It is like a prelude to the biggest event — the World Cup.
This edition of the Asia Cup too saw players come in with a reputation of being hopefuls or the ones to look out for in the future.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the Afghanistan wicket-keeper and opening batter, has impressed with every outing in international cricket. Coming from the system of domestic cricket and being a member of the 2018 Afghanistan Under-19 World Cup team, he was drafted into the squad by Gujarat Titians for Ipl 2022.
His stroke-play provided that explosive start against Sri Lanka even when...
