India got off to a poor start as Akeal Hosein removed both openers — Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill — in quick succession, leaving India 17/2 within three overs.
Then, Suryakumar and Tilak Verma staged a fightback as the former changed the momentum by elegantly hitting the final ball of the fifth over straight back over the bowler’s head for a tremendous six. Following that, Tilak Varma turned up the heat by striking three boundaries and a six off Alzarri Joseph in the sixth over,...

Lauderhill, Aug 11 (Ians) After losing the first two T20I matches to the West Indies, India kept the five-game series alive with a resounding seven-wicket win in the third game, thanks to superlative efforts from vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.
Now with the series action shifting to Lauderhill in Florida, USA, for the last two matches, India will be hoping that other batters step up to make significant contributions in the fourth T20I happening on Saturday.
West Indies are still leading the series 2-1, owing to India’s batting barring Varma not coming to the party. Though Suryakumar got back his groove in the third T20I, India would require the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, captain Hardik Pandya and the rest of the lower-order batters to step up and play a huge role in run-making.

Kishan was at his best in taking up the aggressor role, and hitting everything which came in his arc to smash eight fours and three sixes in his knock of 77 off 64 balls. Gill started off slowly, but played some delightful shots while hitting 11 fours and played anchor in his 85 off 92 balls.
Samson injected some impetus into the Indian innings with two fours and four sixes while making 51 off 41 balls. Bridgetown (Barbados), July 30 (Ians) A disciplined bowling effort led by three-fers from Gudakesh Motie (3/36) and Romario Shepherd (3/37), followed by a fine half-century from Shai Hope (63 not out) helped West Indies draw level the three-match series 1-1 with a convincing six-wicket win over India in the second Odi, here on Saturday.
Opener Ishan Kishan (55) struck his second successive half-century but India failed to capitalise on a good start on a difficult pitch that offered variable bounce to be all out for 181 in 40.5 overs.
In reply, West Indies chased down the target in 36.4 overs with six wickets in hand, courtesy of a steady 91 not out stand between Hope and Keacy Carty (48 not out). This was West Indies first Odi win against India in last ten matches

Bridgetown (Barbados), July 29 (Ians) Ishan Kishan (55) struck his second successive half-century but India failed to capitalise on a good start on a difficult pitch that offered variable bounce to be all out for 181 in 40.5 overs in the second Odi against West Indies here on Saturday.
In a match that was twice interrupted by rain but did not lose any overs, India made a hash of things after the visitors were off to a good start thanks to opener Ishan Kishan, who struck a run-a-ball 55, his second after the 52 in the first match that India won.
Kishan and Shubman Gill raised 90 runs for the opening wicket but the West Indies capitalised on the juice offered by the wicket that was slow but offered bounce too. Romario Shepherd (3-37) and Gudakesh Motie (3-36) were the best West Indies bowlers while Alzerri Joseph claimed 2-35 in seven overs. The West Indies also fielded well,...

Bridgetown (Barbados), July 29 (Ians) West Indies skipper Shai Hope won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in the second Odi at Kensington Oval, here on Saturday.
Hardik Pandya, who was leading the side as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested, said Axar Patel and Sanju Samson come into playing eleven as India look to add to their victory in the opening Odi.
“We were looking to bat first. Wicket was up and down in the first half of the last game, so we want to see how they go here,” said Pandya.
“The way we bowled (in the first Odi) was impressive. The way we caught was great, it changed the momentum. Our energy and finishing the game without losing as many wickets have been great,” Pandya said.
West Indies also made two changes, bringing in Alzarri Joseph and Keacy Carty coming in place of Rovman Powell and Oshane Thomas.

Bridgetown, July 28 (Ians) During their five-wicket win over West Indies in the Odi series opener at Kensington Oval, India rejigged their batting line-up in a bid to experiment ahead of the World Cup in a modest chase of 115. That experiment saw Virat Kohli not batting at all, with Shardul Thakur batting at six while captain Rohit Sharma chose to come at seven.
For India, apart from presenting them a chance to seal the Odi series, it is also another opportunity for them to experiment from the second Odi at the same venue yet again and see where various players stand in the lead-up to the mega event.
Ishan Kishan did well as an opener in top-scoring with 52, but could bat in middle-order or maybe India can give a look-in to Sanju Samson. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja showed left-arm spin mastery to bamboozle West Indies, but whether the visitors give...

Bridgetown, July 28 (Ians) After India thrashed West Indies by five wickets in the Odi series opener at Kensington Oval, left-arm spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja lauded Virat Kohli’s one-handed stunning catch to dismiss Romario Shepherd.
In the 18th over of the West Indies innings on Thursday, Jadeja found a good turn to extract the outside edge of Shepherd’s bat off an attempted drive. Kohli, who was stationed at the second slip took a brilliant one-handed low catch falling to his right, to dismiss the batter, leaving Jadeja in awe of him.
“Generally, I take such catches when others are bowling. But it felt good that somebody took a nice catch like this on my bowling. But it was a very good catch taken by him. He had to take it low and it was a sharp catch. Plus, he did not get a lot of time. The batter went...

Kuldeep, brought into the attack from 17th over, took 4-6 while Jadeja set the base for the West Indies collapse with 3-37. The duo spun a vicious web of spin wizardry to bowl out West Indies for their second lowest Odi total — 114 in 23 overs — against India.

Bridgetown, July 26 (Ians) With just over two months left for the Men’s Odi World Cup to start, India will be aiming to restart and fine-tune their preparation for the marquee tournament when they face West Indies in the series opener starting on Thursday.
With many regulars of the Indian team still on the road to recovery from injuries of various kind, the series against the West Indies presents a chance for the likes of Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Umran Malik to strengthen their case for playing a home Odi World Cup.
With Shreyas Iyer out, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be given a chance for batting at number four despite recording a hat-trick of ducks in the ODIs against Australia in March. In the absence of Kl Rahul, who’s on the road to recovery from a right thigh injury, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will...

St. Johns (Antigua), July 25 (Ians) West Indies have recalled star batter Shimron Hetmyer and fast bowler Oshane Thomas for their upcoming three match Odi series against India, which starts on July 27 at Kensington Oval.
Hetmyer hasn’t featured for the Caribbean side in almost a year, but earns a recall on the back of a solid season in the Indian Premier League with the Rajasthan Royals that netted a total of 299 runs from 13 innings.
If Hetmyer plays, it will be his first match in West Indies colours since he featured in a T20I against New Zealand in August last year and shortly before the talented 26-year-old was left out of his side’s Icc Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in Australia after he missed a departing flight out of the Caribbean.

Harare, July 5 (Ians) Romario Shepherd took a three-fer while Brandon King slammed a century to give West Indies their first win of the Super Six stage in an inconsequential Men’s Odi World Cup Qualifiers match with a seven-wicket win over Oman at the Harare Sports Club, here on Wednesday.
Half-centuries from Shoaib Khan and Suraj Kumar helped Oman reach 221/9 as Shepherd took 3/44 in his ten overs. But King played a composed knock of 100 off 104 balls, laced with 15 fours, and with support from captain Shai Hope’s 63, took West Indies over the line with 62 balls remaining.
Electing to bowl first, West Indies got early rewards as Shepherd and Kyle Mayers dismissed Jatinder Singh and stand-in skipper Aqib Ilyas inside the first ten overs. Ayaan Khan and Kashyap Prajapati rebuilt for Oman, but that came to a halt as the latter was run out by Roston Chase.

Odi Wc Qualifier: West Indies out of qualification race after embarrassing 7-wicket loss to Scotland
Harare, July 1 (Ians) Two-time winners West Indies have been eliminated from the race to qualify for the 2023 Men’s Odi World Cup after suffering a thumping seven-wicket defeat to Scotland in the Super Six stage of the ongoing qualifiers tournament at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday.
West Indies were the champions of the first two editions of World Cups in 1975 and 1979 and finished runners-up to India in 1983.
The 13th edition of the Odi World Cup, to be held from October 5 to November 19 in India, will be the first tournament to be played without the West Indies.
The loss to Scotland means West Indies won’t be among the two teams to qualify for this year’s Odi World Cup. The saddening setback is a continuation of West Indies’ decline in Icc tournaments, coming after not making it to the Super 12 stage of the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia,...

St. John’s (Antigua & Barbuda), May 12 (Ians) Allrounder Keemo Paul and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who last played in ODIs in July against India in Trinidad, have earned spots in the West Indies squad for all-important Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier set to begin from June 18 in Zimbabwe.
“Paul is a three-dimensional player, who can bowl the new ball effectively, he’s dynamic in the outfield and he can also make vital runs. He is now fully recovered from injury and with his skill set, we see him as a potential match-winner for us.”
“Motie was excellent in the Test matches in Zimbabwe earlier this year, where he took 19 wickets, and we anticipate similar conditions for the qualifiers. We believe he will again relish the chance to bowl in those conditions. He is also a capable batsman and good in the outfield.”

Lucknow, April 7 (Ians) Krunal Pandya’s all-round show first helped the Lucknow Super Giants to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to 121/8 on a sluggish black-soil pitch in tenth match of Ipl 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Pandya then chipped in with 34 off 23 balls and shared a 55-run partnership off 38 balls for the third wicket with captain K.L. Rahul, who top-scored with 35, to complete chase of 122 with four overs to spare and take the side to a comfortable five-wicket victory. Their second victory at home meant Lucknow are the new table-toppers in the ten-team competition.
Krunal was undoubtedly the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow, constantly attacking the stumps to pick a tidy 3-18 in his four overs. Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra took 2-23 while Ravi Bishnoi, and Yash Thakur chipped in with a scalp each.

Lucknow, April 7 (Ians) Aiden Markram won his first toss as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad and elected to bat first against Lucknow Super Giants (Lsb) in Ipl 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Both teams enter Friday’s match after losses in their last game. While Hyderabad were thrashed by Rajasthan Royals by 72 runs, Lucknow suffered a 12-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings.
“The wicket looks quite dry. Hopefully, we can put up a good total. Ideally, we will get to our first win. Everyone seems in good spirits and full of energy. The guys are looking excited. Since we are batting first, Anmolpreet Singh will start,” said Markram.
Lucknow skipper K.L. Rahul said his team will look to adjust to the black soil pitch, which means less pace and bounce, without the services of Mark Wood and Avesh Khan, with Quinton de Kock also not playing.

Johannesburg, March 29 (Ians) A career-best 83 off 44 balls by Reeza Hendricks was not enough for South Africa as they fell to a seven-run defeat to West Indies in the decisive third and final T20I at the Wanderers Stadium, here.
The right-hander thumped two sixes and 11 fours in his sparkling innings, before becoming one of Alzarri Joseph’s five victims after falling in the penultimate over as the run-rate began to soar in South Africa’s pursuit of 221.
