Mohali, April 28 (Ians) Punjab Kings (Pbks) won the toss and elected to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants (Lsg) in an Ipl 2023 match at Is Bindra Stadium, here on Friday.
Shikhar Dhawan has returned as captain for Pbks after missing a few matches due to his shoulder injury.
While Pbks have made two changes with Sikandar Raza coming in for Mathew Short and Gurnoor Brar making his debut, Lsg are unchanged.
Speaking about his shoulder injury, Pbks skipper Dhawan said, “Shoulder is much better – pain free now”.
“We’re quite happy. Have got seven matches ahead, and are looking to win most of them. Two changes — Short is out, Raza comes in. And a fast bowler will make his debut,” he added.
On the other hand, the Lsg captain Kl Rahul said: ” Motivation remains the same wherever I play. But yeah, I’m a lot more familiar with these conditions.

Lucknow, April 22 (Ians) Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
A win for Lucknow at their home ground will take them to the top of the points table. Lucknow have won two of their three games at home in Ipl 2023. The pitch for Saturday’s match is the one used by Lucknow for their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 7, where they won by five wickets.
After winning the toss, Hardik said fast-bowler Alzarri Joseph misses out and left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad comes into the playing eleven. “Looks like a slow track, want to get the best out of it. There is no time to test our batters now.”
“On this wicket, the better option is to bat first. We’re not worried about our record while chasing.

London, March 24 (Ians) English white-ball specialist Tom Abell and Australian short-format expert Tim David emerged as the top picks in the draft for the 2023 edition of The Hundred, England’s domestic limited-balls cricket league.
In the draft held on Thursday night, over 30 male players were picked across eight teams with Welsh Fire roping in Abell while David returned to Southern Brave via their Right-To-Match (Rtm) card.
With new coach Michael Hussey taking charge of affairs after a winless 2022 season, Welsh Fire strengthened their squad significantly by securing the services of Pakistan’s pace duo Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, as well as England all-rounder David Willey.
Domestic players were much in demand as top overseas stars like Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, West Indies’ Ipl legend Kieron Pollard and New Zealand’s Trent Boult went unsold, in some cases due to concerns over their availability for the full season.

Sydney, Dec 17 (Ians) The Big Bash League side Sydney Thunder on Friday night set an unwanted record, slumping to the lowest-ever score in the history of T20 game against Adelaide Strikers in the Bbl Season 12 here.
The Australian domestic T20 league team, which had England’s T20 World Cup winner Alex Hales, a much-travelled T20 expert who has played in Pakistan Super League and Caribbean Premier League besides Bbl, in their ranks were shot out for just 15 runs in 35 deliveries in a dramatic encounter at the Sydney Showground Stadium.
The Thunder’s total is the lowest-ever scored in a T20 match, beating Turkey’s 21 all out against the Czech Republic back in 2019.
The Sydney Thunder were chasing a target of 140 in 20 overs after restricting Adelaide Strikes to what looked like a modest total thanks to some good work by their bowlers. Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed 3-20 while Gurinder Sandhu (2-28), Daniel Sams...

New Delhi, Nov 15 (Ians) India cricketer Hanuma Vihari feels that it is going to be a big task for Mumbai Indians to replace the T20 legend Kieron Pollard, who announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians released Pollard, their most senior player, to end a 13-year playing career that began in 2010 when they signed the West Indies player for an undisclosed sum via a tie-breaker that broke the deadlock between four teams.
While Pollard said he would be calling time as a player in the Ipl, his relationship with Mumbai is not ending: he has joined them as a batting coach and will play for Mi Emirates, owned by the same group, in the ILT20 in the UAE.
“It is a big loss for them (Mumbai Indians). These are big shoes to fill, for a player of the stature of Kieron Pollard.

Sydney, Sep 29 (Ians) In the absence of swashbuckling David Warner, all-rounder Cameron Green smoothly delivered in his new role as an opener in the T20Is against India, hitting two stunning half-centuries in Mohali and Hyderabad at a whopping strike-rate of 214.54.
Green’s eye-catching knocks saw him land a spot in Australia’s upcoming two-match T20I series against West Indies on the Gold Coast and Brisbane on October 5 and 7 respectively. But with Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc returning, Green may not be in the playing eleven.
Marsh, the all-rounder who was critical in Australia winning Men’s T20 World Cup at the UAE last year, believes that though the cricket fans and critics were taken by surprise on seeing Green’s onslaught with the bat, none of the members in the side were left astonished.

Melbourne, Sep 28 (Ians) A full-strength Australia will take on the West Indies in the two-match T20I series beginning at the Carrara Oval on October 5, with the likes of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and veteran pacer Mitchell Starc returning to the fold for the fixture just weeks ahead of the start of the Icc T20 World Cup at home.
The quartet had missed the three-match T20I series against India due to various reasons and their return to the side will add the much-needed firepower ahead of the global showpiece event, of which Australia are the defending reigning champions.
Besides the return of the four stalwarts, young Cameron Green will get another opportunity to prove his T20I credentials as he has also been included in the 16-member squad.

Hyderabad, Sep 26 (Ians) Having played only one T20I before the three-match series against India and not opening the innings before in any T20 cricket, Cameron Green turned out to be the surprise package for Australia. In the absence of David Warner, Green smoothly delivered in his new role as an opener in T20Is by smashing two stunning half-centuries at a whopping strike-rate of 214.54.
After his exploits on Sunday in the third T20I at Hyderabad, where he smashed a sensational 52 off 21 balls, including reaching his fifty in just 19 balls, Green, 23, earned rich praise from head coach Andrew McDonald on performing exceedingly well throughout the series.
“He’s certainly embracing the challenge of opening. We’ve asked him to show great intent at the top of the order and I think everything we’ve seen so far shows that he’s doing that. It’s probably opportunistic the way...

Hyderabad, Sep 26 (Ians) Charismatic India batter and ‘Player of the Match’ in the third and final T20I, Suryakumar Yadav has said he is loving the challenges of batting at No. 4, though he added playing “smart” is important if one has to excel at the crucial position.
Suryakumar shared a productive 104-run partnership with batting stalwart Virat Kohli in the chase as both ended up scoring fine half-centuries to guide India to a series win against Australia in the third and final T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Suryakumar’s blazing 69 that came off just 36 balls and a strike rate of 191.66 was one of the main reasons why India were able to effect a tough 187-run chase against bowlers of the calibre of Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Cameron Green and Daniel Sams.

Hyderabad, Sep 26 (Ians) The Rohit Sharma-led India not only defeated Australia in the T20I series at home 2-1 following their thrilling six-wicket victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Sunday night, the hosts also achieved a unique record of clinching their 21st T20I win in a calendar year — the most ever recorded by a team in men’s T20Is.
Pakistan had held the record until now with 20 T20I wins in 2021.
Virat Kohli (63) and Suryakumar Yadav (69) were the architects of the win in the series-decider as they stitched together a century partnership. Thanks to their efforts, India overhauled Australia’s 187/7 in 20 overs with just a ball to spare.
This was also India’s 13th successful run chase in the format in 14 attempts since 2021, according to Icc.
India drew level with the Thailand women’s team, which recorded 21 victories and four losses in 2019.

For K.L Rahul had been in good form in the first T20I at Mohali, hitting a 35-ball 55 to help the team go past the 200-run mark. India lost that match by four wickets. Rohit was the architect of India’s win in the 8-over-a-side slugfest at Nagpur as he blasted a 20-ball 46 to help India chase a target of 91 runs.
So, when both of them got out cheaply with only 30 runs on the board, India were in trouble.

On Sunday, the former captain did just that, steading the innings after India lost in-form openers Rohit Sharma and K.L Rahul with only 30 runs on the board. Kohli took the backseat as Suryakumar Yadav went after the bowling, raising a century-partnership for the third wicket and then took over the mantle of scoring quick runs.
He figured in a 48-run partnership with Hardik Pandya to guide India to a six-wicket victory over Australia with a ball to spare in the 3rd T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium here, clinching the series 2-1.
Kohli said the situation demanded that he let Suryakumar take the driver’s seat at that juncture.
"I looked at the dugout and both Rahul and Rohit asked me to continue batting. He (Suryakumar Yadav) has the game to bat in any conditions, he got a hundred in England, then batted well in Asia Cup. Here...

Australia got off to a blazing start and ended in whirlwind fashion but the Indians did well in the middle overs to peg them back.
Green (52 off 21 balls) gave the innings the early momentum as he blasted the third fastest fifty for Australia in T20 cricket, racing to his half-century off 19 deliveries while David, the big-hitter who started his career with Singapore before moving to Australia, gave the innings the much-needed push towards the end as Australia recovered from 117/6 in 14th over to post a respectable total.
Tim David and Daniel Sams raised 68 runs for the seventh wicket off 34 balls as Australia went for the leather in the final four overs, hitting 21 runs off the 18th over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and 18 off the 19th bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. But Harshal Patel bowled a superb final over, conceding only 7 runs and sent back the dangerous David as Australia ended with 187/7 in their 20 overs.

Hyderabad, Sep 25 (Ians) India won the toss and elected to bowl first against Australia in the series-deciding third and final Twenty20 International at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
This is the first international match at this venue since the 2019 match between India and West Indies.
India made one change in the team that won the 2nd match in Nagpur, bringing in Bhuvneshwar Kumar in place of Rishabh Pant.
“A lot of noise on the ground. It’s good to be back in Hyderabad and play in front of this crowd. We look to keep winning games, it’s important to maintain your momentum in this format of the game, so it was a good win for us. Australia have always been challenging, they bring in a different kind of challenge,” said Rohit Sharma during the toss.
“We need to keep doing the basics right if we have to get success.

With Australia posting 90/5 in their innings in the match reduced to eight-over-a-side after a 2 hours and 30 minutes delay due to a wet outfield, Rohit and Rahul came with aggressive intent in order to take early control of the game.
Rohit started the fireworks as he blasted Josh Hazelwood for back-to-back sixes in the first over — the second one a superb effort as he pulled it over the deep square boundary when the bowler chased him to the leg side.
On the last delivery of the over, Rahul whipped a half-volley on the leg stump from Hazelwood over the mid-wicket as India scored 20 runs off the first over.
Though India lost a couple of quick wickets, the early onslaught kept them ahead of Australia, Rohit continued to blaze away, leading from the front with a 20-ball 46 not out as India defeated Australia by six wickets in the second T20I truncated...
