When the Hell’s Paradise anime dropped in April 2023, no one knew that the anime was going to become one of the Dark Trio anime series, along with the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. Yuji Kaku, the creator of the series, was actually one of the editors for Chainsaw Man, and now his own series is being compared to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s magnum opus.
Hell’s Paradise
While the manga series had decent popularity, the main fame that Hell’s Paradise earned was after the release of the first season of the anime last year. The series was produced by Mappa and Twin Engine. But Kaku did not want to contribute to the anime series. In fact, the director of Hell’s Paradise, Kaori Makita, revealed this information himself.

Tatsuki Fujimoto has always had an eye for talent, such could be easily seen with his former editors Tatsuya Endo and Yuji Kaku. Both of them now stand big in the world of shonen manga with Spy x Family and Hell’s Paradise. The former has already been ruling the hearts of the fans while the latter made its way to the top three of the dark shonen trio. Alongside Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man stands Kaku’s Hell’s Paradise.

There has been a whirlwind of breakout shonen anime during the past year and Yuji Kaku’s bold, bloody survivalist series, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, finally has a gorgeous anime adaptation courtesy of Mappa and it’s truly hit the ground running when it comes to its blade-wielding, demon-slaying, immortality-seeking mayhem. Hell’s Paradise kicks off with an explosive start as legendary assassin Gabimaru finds himself joined at the hip to his cold executioner, Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, who becomes his escort on a hunt for eternal life on an island that’s full of murderous monsters.
Audiences are already calling Hell’s Paradise one of the best anime of the season and a lot of this has to do with the effortless chemistry that’s present between this anime odd couple, Gabimaru and Sagiri. The casting of these crucial roles is paramount, but Alejandro Saab and Marisa Duran rise to the occasion and...

This Hell’s Paradise review contains no spoilers.
“A person’s true nature is reflected in the blade.”
Every year there seems to be a new blood-soaked battle shonen series that claims to break barriers and redefine what’s possible in an ongoing action anime. Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man have all caused shockwaves in the anime community that are still being felt today and the common factor between these eclectic hits is that they all relish heightened action that practically equates combat with gory massacres. Hell’s Paradise, the anime adaptation of Yuji Kaku’s manga sensation, initially appears to be cut from the same cloth. Hell’s Paradise promises guts and gore, but it’s the show’s big heart that pumps out this viscous blood that turns this assassination adventure into something special that will surprise both anime newcomers and seasoned veterans alike.
