Why Watch? There’s a reason that young Guillermo barely has any hair left, and it’s the same reason he’s afraid to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Gorgeously framed with an antique horror feel, this short from Freddy Chavez Olmos and Shervin Shoghian delivers a Gothic story about standing up to bullies (with just a little twisted revenge in the mix). The child acting is what it is, but the real stars are the fairy tale feel and the disgustingly good creature design (Dr. Finkelstein from Nightmare Before Christmas meets Alien?). It’s simple but satisfying. Perfect for this time of year. What Will It Cost? A little over 8 minutes A New Short Film Every Weekday...

"His time runs out, for the monster's hunger is surely here to stay." Time for a bit more horror to creep you out this month. Another well-made short from Mexico/Canada that we need to feature is one called Shhh, inspired by the lucid dreams of director Guillermo del Toro during childhood. It runs about 10 minutes and it definitely has a very creepy atmosphere and one ugly "monster" that hungers for a little boy's hair every time he goes to the bathroom. Del Toro wasn't involved in making this (though he should mentor these filmmakers), but he did provide a quote they've been touting: "strong visuals and solid atmosphere!" I would definitely agree, this is the perfect short to freak out little siblings if you have any. Happy Halloween! Hat tip to GeekTyrant for first finding this online. We've got another great Halloween horror short film to share with you all today! This one is called Shhh, and it was directed by Freddy Chávez Olmos and Shervin Shoghian. It's a nightmarish fantasy horror thriller that was inspired by the dreams of director Guillermo del Toro. It also serves as an anti-bullying message. The short is extremely well made, and there are some pretty heavy moments, but it's very entertaining.

Shhh Short Film Trailer. Freddy Chavez Olmos, Shervin Shoghian‘s Shhh (2011) short film trailer stars Ilze Burger, Sean Michael Kyer, and Ashley Whitehead. Shhh‘s plot synopsis: “Shhh is a fantasy/horror short tale about a young boy, Guillermo, who uses his imagination to overcome his bully: a hair-eating monster. Tired of being scared, Guillermo eventually takes matters into his own hands. It’s only then that we realize the monster might not be as fictitious as one may have thought.”
Looks cool. The thing that comes out of the tub looks disgusting, much like the gestation from the tub in the Tub (2010) Short Film.
On the effects in Shhh:
Featuring a creepy monster conceived by Sion Lee and put together by prosthetic and creature designer Tibor Farkas, the monster suit is worn by a dancer, giving the creature a beautifully fluid movement I hadn’t expected but which...

For the past few months I've been keeping an eye on a local production that showed much promise. A short film directed by award-winning make-up and effects artists Shervin Shoghian and Freddy Chavez Olmos, Shhh is the story of Guillermo, a young boy bullied at home by his older sister and terrorised by a monster in the bathroom, who uses his imagination to overcome his fears.
