Exclusive: Koreatown Ghost Story, a short film written and directed by Teddy Tenenbaum and Minsun Park, has been sold to Paramount Players with Tenenbaum and Park closing a deal to write and direct the full-length feature film. Neal Moritz and Original’s Toby Jaffe will produce, along with Jim Wedaa. Margaret Cho is attached to reprise her role from the short and will executive produce.

Wedaa’s credits include Brahms: The Boy II and the soon-to-be-released Netflix film Mixtape.

“Chewing Gum”, from Mihir Fadnavis, features a strange man (Randeep Jha) tormented by an unearthly being on a trip through the city as he becomes increasingly aware of malicious forces chasing after him. This is a fairly fun and chilling short that gets the block off to a great start. The moody black-and-white cinematography from Pratik Shah adds immensely to the presentation, enhancing the shadows around him and keeping the suspense piling up with the strange creature following him almost entirely invisible as a result. The terrifying screeches, groans, and slurping sounds it emits are genuinely chilling, and add to the terrifying ordeal he experiences into the night. This segment can easily be stretched and expanded into a longer feature as the folklore and imagery provided here are top-notch.

Sony seems a little hard up for franchises right now. As Disney dominates the film landscape, Warner Bros. struggles to keep up with its Dceu, Fantastic Beasts, and Lego movies, Universal keeps cruising along with Fast & Furious films, and even the battered Paramount chugs ahead with more Transformers sequels, Sony has fallen behind in the IP race. Sure, The Dark Tower might succeed, but they're sharing Spider-Man with Marvel Studios and they need a big hit of their own. Now they're looking in an unexpected place for a potential new franchise: spec scripts.

Many people often romanticize the seemingly idyllic characteristics of the past that appear to offer a serene way of life, without truly realizing what harrowing aspects can also often plague the situation. But the determined protagonist in director Darren Lynn Bousman‘s new horror film, ‘Abattoir,’ soon discovers how distressing the past can truly be when she realizes that a horrifying crime spree is coming back to haunt her. The all-too-important lesson of how the secrets of the past can truly harm a person’s present and future was highlighted when the film, which was written by Christopher Monfette, David J. Schow and Teddy Tenenbaum, screened at the 2016 Los Angeles Film [ Read More ]

Premiering tonight at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival is Darren Lynn Bousman’s Abattoir, a neo-noir-infused horror film that follows a reporter (Jessica Lowndes) investigating a mysterious man by the name of Jebediah Crone (Dayton Callie), who collects the rooms of violent crime scenes as part of his plan to build a home based entirely upon murder. Abattoir also co-stars Lin Shaye, Joe Anderson, J. Larose, and Michael Paré.
Daily Dead recently had the chance to speak with Bousman about his return to horror for his latest film, why he thrives on making “un-makeable” films, and the long journey of Abattoir from page to screen.
[Writer’s Note: Full disclosure, my significant other (and sometimes contributor to Daily Dead) edited Abattoir, so while we will not be reviewing it, we thought an interview with Bousman would be an appropriate way to give Daily Dead readers insights into the film.]
Let’s start at the beginning and talk about the evolution of Abattoir from the graphic novel to the feature film version. This has been a long time coming.

The supernatural is back. After taking a break while torture-porn pulled teeth, last year’s underperformance of Saw VI and box-office triumph of Paranormal Activity heralded a return to the humble haunted house. With this year’s The Last Exorcism and Paranormal Activity 2 pitting ordinary families against supernatural forces, the scene is set for 2011.
Having already put one unsuspecting family to the test in Wes Craven remake Last House on the Left, Dennis Iliadis is in negotiations to direct Silver Pictures’ new film The Demonologists. While Last House subjected familial normality to rape and murder, The Demonologists will pit a family of veteran ghost hunters against a vengeful demonic infestation – driving yet another decent household to violent acts.
Iliadis will join Ghost Whisperer alumni Teddy Tenenbaum on the project, which will follow Anthony Hopkins’ exorcism movie The Rite into cinemas next year.

Dennis Iliadis is in negotiations to direct a supernatural film called, “The Demonologists.” The movie is about a group of ghost hunters on a routine ghost job, but encountered demons instead. The script is written by Teddy Tenenbaum, who also had numerous writing credits with “Ghost Whisperer” with Jennifer Love Hewitt. La Times claimed “The Demonologists” shares some thematic similarities with “The Last House on the Left” over what happened with a good family driven into violent acts. Iliadis is also in consideration to direct the remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds.” Gig Patta’s Take: Dennis Iliadis did a fine job with the remake of “The Last House on the Left.” If “The Demonologists” would be similar to his last movie, then it should be as good. I would like to see a “Ghost Hunter” episode gone wrong. What do you think of Dennis Iliadis directing “The Demonologists?...

Last year's Last House on the Left was yet another entry in the recent trend of remaking old horror schlock classics with a bigger budget, but at least it was one of the better ones-- our review called it "less a fright fest of ghosts in the shadows and more a creepy, disturbing battle of savage wills." And the director, Dennis Iliadis, is taking that warmish critical response on to something that should make horror fans truly happy: an original horror movie. According to The La Times, Iliadis is in negotiations to direct The Demonologists, a script by Ghost Whisperer writer Teddy Tenenbaum. The story is about a family of experienced ghost hunters who get called in for a job that becomes much more difficult when they realize they're actually after demons. Hilariously, the movie is being compared to House, the 1977 Japanese horror classic recently shown to me by David...

Director Dennis Iliadis’ horror remake "The Last House on the Left" starring Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter pleased fans of the ’72 Wes Craven original. According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” the success of “House on the Left” helped make Iliadis a leading candidate to helm “The Demonolgists,” the latest horror movie from the production house Dark Castle Entertainment. Teddy Tenenbaum of TV’s “The Ghost Whisperer” wrote the script, about a family of mild-mannered ghost hunters who find themselves caught off guard when facing a vicious demon.

The director of the recent remake of The Last House on the Left, Dennis Iliadis, has taken on a new film project called The Demonologists. This new horror film was written by Ghost Whisperer writer Teddy Tenenbaum. And Joel Silver’s production company is producing the flick.
The script is about “a family of veteran ghost hunters who get more than they bargained for when they are called in to face what they soon realize is not a routine ghost job but a demon infestation. The film shares some thematic similarities with House, which looked at what happens when a decent family is driven to violent acts."
Sounds like a Paranormal Activity inspired film to me. Ghost Hunters meets demons? That could be fun if they do something different and show off some new and good creepy ideas.
