St. Vincent rolled out “Big Time Nothing” ahead of the release of her first self-produced record and seventh album, All Born Screaming, due Friday.
“Don’t blink/Don’t wait/Don’t walk/You’re late/Don’t fall from grace, behave/ Don’t trip, sashay,” St. Vincent sings against a fever-dream beat, before declaring, “I look inside your eyes” and counting down to the next verse. “Don’t show/Don’t flake/Go hard, debase/Don’t make a dishonest mistake/Don’t be so sure I need a cure.

The Armed have released a new album called Perfect Saviors. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.
As the self-described “World’s Greatest Band,” it’s not surprising that The Armed would have some pretty strong words to say about the environment that inspired their next album. “Too much information has made us dumb and confused,” singer Tony Wolski offered in a statement. “Too many ways to connect have inadvertently led to isolation. And too much expectation has forced everyone to become a celebrity. Predictable primal dangers have given way to newer social ones. And the result is a world that is confounding and terrifying — but ultimately still beautiful. We hope this record is exactly all of that, too. Perfect Saviors is our completely unironic, sincere effort to create the biggest, greatest rock album of the 21st century.”

Deafheaven have shared their new song “The Gnashing,” the second single from the band’s upcoming LP Infinite Granite.
Like its predecessor “Great Mass of Color,” “The Gnashing” showcases a stylistic shift for the California metal act, with frontman George Clarke’s vocal approach more melodic and decipherable than the black metal howlings that feature on previous Deafheaven albums.
Infinite Granite marks Deafheaven’s fifth album and first since their acclaimed 2018 effort, Ordinary Corrupt Human Love, which placed at Number Five on Rolling Stone’s 20 Best Metal Albums of 2018 list.

San Francisco metal favorites Deafheaven have released a new song, “Great Mass of Color,” from their upcoming album, Infinite Granite, out August 20th via Sargent House.
“Great Mass of Color” is a characteristically dense and sprawling composition that repeatedly strives toward supersonic heights. Notably, however, frontman George Clarke delivers much of the song in a soft croon, only slipping back a bit into his familiar black metal-inspired wail for a brief, but perfectly timed moment at the song’s end. Carlos de la Garza can “count on one hand” the number of alternative rock records being green-lit by major labels right now.
De la Garza, a drummer-turned-producer who also mixes and engineers and has worked with everyone from Bad Religion to Best Coast, remembers a more lucrative time: 10 to 15 years ago, he says, record labels had much bigger budgets for rock and alternative acts. Those budgets have since shifted toward other genres — resulting in fewer album releases and fewer opportunities for rock-focused producers every year. “Everyone’s fighting for those same few records,...

Canadian-American indie rock band Metric have been around the block many a time — 20 years, to be precise. Since making their full-length debut with 2003’s Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, they’ve raked in several Juno Awards, an impressive number of chart rankings and movie soundtrack placements. And though they’ve yet to have their major pop breakthrough in the United States, they say they’re not hurting for one anytime soon.

It’s no secret that Paramore has been in the studio hard at work on their fifth full-length album, but now, we’re getting a look at just how far along in the process they are. Spoiler alert: they’re almost done.
In an Instagram post on the band’s account, Paramore showed off their “song board” for their upcoming record – a chart in the studio that helps keep track of the progress of each song. Unlike most song boards you see in ‘behind-the-scenes’ pictures, this one doesn’t share any working track titles – instead, it’s a close-up view of some empty boxes coupled with the caption, “Vox are 2 X’s away from #pmorealbum5.” Basically, frontwoman Hayley Williams just needs to lay down vocal tracks for two more songs until all the vocals are done, which could also mean that it wraps up completion of the album, too.

Jimmy Eat World gave us a taste of their new album last week when they dropped the first track “Get Right,” but now they’re making everybody hungry for more upon the release of another new jam, “Sure And Certain.”
“Sure And Certain” will act as the proper lead single for the band’s upcoming record, Integrity Blues, and it’s got the perfect formula to become a radio rock hit. Jimmy Eat World are back with their first new song since 2013’s Damage, and it comes in the form of single “Get Right.” The track is taken from the rock band’s forthcoming full-length, which is expected to see a release on October 21st.

While no title for the upcoming album has been revealed just yet, retailers from overseas have seemingly listed the new record up for pre-order under the title Integrity Blues. Santa Monica—Sandwiched in between his two Coachella appearances, Beck came in from the dusty desert to play an intimate show for Kcrw’s Apogee Sessions here Wednesday night. The 100-minute performance was twice as long as his Coachella set and certainly under more pleasant, less blustery conditions: the cosy confines of legendary producer/mixer Bob Clearmountain’s studio, which tightly packed in 200 of the public radio station’s supporters. Beck opened with the elegant “The Golden Age” from 2002’s “Sea Change,” before gliding into three songs from his excellent new album (and “Sea Change” sequel of sorts), “Morning Phase”: the Beatle-esque “Blackbird Chain,” mournful “Say Goodbye,” and sorrowful “Don’t Let It Go.” The largely acoustic quartet of tunes allowed Beck to warm up, with his confidence seemingly growing with each song. As he noted, he’d only played the new material a handful of times, and while...

Beck hasn’t been particularly prolific lately when it comes to new studio music. Sure, he’s been busy recording cover albums, producing artists like Thurston Moore and Charlotte Gainsbourg, and collaborating with McSweeney’s on the “Song Reader” sheet-music project, but it’s been more than five years since the release of 2008’s “Modern Guilt.” That break ends tomorrow (24) with “Morning Phase” tomorrow. The album has been tagged a sequel of sorts to Beck’s popular break-up album, 2002’s “Sea Change.” Rather than a true sequel, that descriptor is more useful as shorthand to let the listener know the album is primarily acoustic; song-oriented rather than beats oriented, and confessional. And, like “Sea Change,” regardless of what else Beck records, it will stand out as a gorgeous milestone in his career. “Morning Phase” is an immersive experience that doesn’t lend itself to parsing individual tracks. New York — Hayley Williams of Paramore said joining rapper B.o.B on the hip-hop groove "Airplanes" helped her band realize they needed to take more chances.
The monster jam sold more than 4 million tracks and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2011. Williams said the song's success came at a perfect time: Two of the members of Paramore left the group, and the newly formed trio began work on their fourth album and wanted to expand beyond their signature punk-rock sound.
"Our fans were so into it, I felt like (B.o.B's) fans were into it and ... I just realized it's good to take risks," the bright-haired 24-year-old singer said in a recent interview.
"And I think that (it) kind of really fell into place at the right time because when it came time to write this record, it was all about taking risks and following what we...

Especially when it comes to music made by women, rock bands are frequently described in terms of their infancy or when they're all-grown-up. Rarely is there an album that so perfectly encapsulates the in-between, the space where Paramore now occupies with the release of their self-titled set out this week. Prior to recording, two of the band's founding members were gone; the group took on deft hired gun Justin Meldal-Johnsen in the studio to round out the rhythm section; and with that, the band embraced the "alt"-ness of alt-rock and let no genre border hinder them. The result, for one,...

Following “Now,” the first single from its self-titled fourth album, Paramore has premiered a new tune, “Still Into You.” [More after the jump...] The lyric video for the driving song featured shadow hand puppets in an adorable clip full of talking hands and heart shapes. Love conquers all, despite the odds, in the tune. Long after the butterflies should be gone, they are still fluttering in love land for lead singer Hayley Williams. Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen. “Paramore” comes out April 9. “Now” peaked at #13 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart and No. 16 on Billboard’s Rock Songs.

There’s a lot of information to parse from the 58-second clip Paramore released to tease the arrival of “Now,” the group’s new single out Jan. 22. The track comes from “Paramore,” the rock band’s next album —and first to feature them as a trio— out April 9. Justin Meldal-Johnson produced the album, the group's first since 2009's "Brand New Eyes" and the 2010 departure of founding members/brothers Josh and Zac Farro. The band is now singer Hayley Williams, bassist Jeremy Davis and guitarist Taylor York. [More after the jump...] Five things we learned from the trailer: *If the video is to be...

Paramore will release its first album in more than three years when its self-titled fourth studio album comes out April 9, 2013. The first single, whose release has not been announced, will be “Now.” The album, produced by Justin Meldal-Johnson, will be the first studio set since 2009’s “Brand New Eyes” and the 2010 departure of founding members/brothers Josh and Zac Farro. It seems like Beck is taking a page out of the Flaming Lips’ playbook by releasing new music in a particularly unique fashion. The eccentric singer-songwriter is set to reveal three songs through a new PS3 video game titled "Sound Shapes."
The tracks – “Cities,” “Touch the People” and “Spiral Staircase” – will each be found on a different level of the game, which is set for release in a just a few weeks. Sony states that the new PS3 game is “a classic side-scrolling platformer where your actions make the music.” Sounds like quite the intriguing concept to us.
Other artist tracks set to appear are Deadmau5, I Am Robot And Proud and Jim Guthrie.
Beck is on a roll, having recently released his Jack-White produced track “I Just Started Hating Some People Today” as well as a new B-side “Blue Randy” after a lengthy period without new material.

Band launches Instagram account to keep fans updated on the progress of their follow-up to Brand New Eyes.

Paramore first entered the studio back in April to begin work on the follow-up to their Brand New Eyes album, tapping Justin Meldal-Johnsen to helm the sessions ... and since then, aside from the odd tweet, there's been little in the way of progress updates.
But over the last week, all of that has changed. Paramore recently launched an in-studio Instagram account, which so far has been populated with pics of the band recording new material — Hayley Williams seems to be spending an inordinate amount of time playing with keyboards and organs, for what it's worth — shooting hoops and taking the occasional burrito break.
They're also apparently making tremendous progress on the still-untitled album: Earlier on Wednesday (June 6), Williams took to Twitter...

Singer Hayley Williams says band is working on 'a pretty strange schedule.'

Less than six months ago, Paramore said they were determined to have more fun while recording their fourth studio album .
Well, so much for that.
On Wednesday, singer Hayley Williams gave fans a long-awaited update on the band's still-untitled effort, which, from the sounds of it, has not been much of a party so far.
"I've never known what it's like to be home for more than a few weeks at a time that absolutely nothing is going on," wrote Williams in a lengthy post in which she decried how quickly time flies. "The only thing I could think about was if we could snap our fingers and make the 4th album happen so that the next time I looked up, we'd be back on a stage somewhere and not sitting around at home.

From a young age, Grace Woodroofe has had great opportunities with collaborators. She ended up working with Mark Eitzel with the American Music Club and Beck’s former bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen after recording her first demo. After finishing her studies, Woodroofe came from Perth to the Los Angeles to work with Ben Harper, who produced her first album, Always Want.

This is interview part two with the makers of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. If you missed the first part with Michael Cera & Anna Kendrick you can check it out here.
Interviewed: Edgar Wright and Brandon Routh
Did you have any inspiration for the opening titles of the film?
EW: Yeah. The first cut of the film we didn’t have opening titles, the titles were all at the end. If you permit me to name drop, Quentin Tarantino watched the film and his only note that he had, his only big note, is he said, “You should have the titles at the start”. Because, I think he said, “Let the audience settle in.” Because originally it started with Brian LeBarton playing the solo title and then it went straight to the film and if you’re sitting down it’s kind of like you need a little second to catch your breath.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World week is finally here! Spinner has kindly allowed both the score and the soundtrack to Edgar Wright‘s latest to stream in its entirety. As for the soundtrack is is completely rockin’ and definitely worth a listen (and many more).

The summer's coolest comic-book movie just keeps looking better. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is fast approaching its August 25 release date, and just to keep us all slavering in anticipation, Edgar Wright and the gang have enlisted superduperhip DJ and general mixmaster Osymyso to mix a series of new trailer remixes for the movie. The first, Prepare, features Osymyso's workover of the down and dirty Bass Battle, a track that appears on Nigel Godrich's score and features the guitar wizardry of Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Jason Falkner.Osymyso, as Wright fans may remember, created Spaced Jam for the DVD release of Spaced (sampling dialogue from the series just as he does here for the film), as well as producing the soundtrack for Shaun Of The Dead and contributing to Hot Fuzz. So this is but the latest in a long collaboration - and this is but the first in a...
