“RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” kicked off its 9th season on Friday, May 17 with the first two episodes featuring returning queens from seasons past. In the sister series “Untucked,” now in its 6th “All Stars” season, the queens throw back a cocktail and dish the dirt backstage on the latest challenge. Check out our recap of “Untucked” episode 2 below.
This week the queens competed in “The Paint Ball,” walking the runway in three categorized looks: “Monochromatica,” “Drag Imitates Art,” and a third original creation that they had to design and hand paint from scratch. Prior to RuPaul Charles announcing the official top two performers of the week next to earn the coveted Beautiful Benefactress Badges, they gathered backstage to reflect on the fashion-focused challenge.
Jorgeous was relieved that the judges didn’t go harder on her because she was very unsure about her three choices, but Plastique Tiara said that...

Following Friday’s seventh episode, musician and one-time judge of the show Orville Peck makes his “Pit Stop” debut. In their recap of the episode, Orville tells Trixie that he’s watched the show since season one and she shares that he acts like a drag queen when they spend time together in their personal life. Orville calls season 5 his favorite of all time because of how classic their “Untucked” episodes were. The two share commentary on large makeup like Dawn‘s considering former contestants like Trixie, Mimi Imfurst and Bianca Del Rio had to explain their “club kid makeup” back then, but now queens like Dawn and the Methyd family just get to exist.

The start of October marks the beginning of LGBTQ History Month and the midway point of National Hispanic Heritage Month — two cultures with rich histories and contributions to the arts.
To celebrate, TheWrap recently caught up with five LatinX standouts from “RuPaul’s Drag Race”: Alexis Mateo, April Carrion, Bianca Del Rio, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo and Crystal Methyd. The queens shared their personal herstories and how their Latino heritage inspire their drag.
Check out the interview below and behind-the-scenes of the queens’ LatinX Heritage Month shoot above.
How did Latin culture inspire your drag?
Alexis Mateo: My mom was a fanatic of Miss Universe, and it’s a huge event in my house in Puerto Rico. When she was younger, she used to train people for pageants. I competed in pageants since I was a little boy. And of course, when I became a drag queen, Miss Universe was an inspiration.

Bianca Del Rio has nothing but fond and funny memories of meeting one of her idols, Joan Rivers, shortly before the legendary comedian’s death.
Rivers died nine years ago this week after being placed in a medically induced coma following complications from throat surgery.
TheWrap recently caught up with Del Rio and asked her about taping an episode of “In Bed With Joan” in 2014. The drag queen, who counts Rivers as one of her comedic inspirations, was the icon’s second-to-last guest on the YouTube series.
Del Rio had been crowned the winner of the sixth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” a few months prior, and in hindsight, the comic queen’s own quick wit and criticisms, which she styled after insult comics like Rivers and Don Rickles, helped her dominate the entire season.

In 2015, the TV academy made the decision to split the variety series Emmy category into two separate ones in order to better recognize achievements in the talk and scripted subgenres. This year, there are 19 shows vying for spots in the Best Talk Series lineup. The amount of 2022 hopefuls was also 19, which was down from 20 in 2021 and 24 in 2020. Four of the series listed below will reap bids this year, giving each entry pretty good odds.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their ballots for their favorite talk shows. Unlike at the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.
Whereas they could previously make as many selections as they liked in each category, voters will now be limited to four choices here, reflecting the number of eventual nominees. Which of the talk series listed...

Exclusive: The late-night community is over the moon after it emerged that there will be five Emmy nominations this year.
Emmy voting opened today, and Deadline understands that there are 19 submissions in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category, far more than expected, which, given the math, means that there will be five nominations this year.
One late-night source told Deadline this was “unexpected” but a “positive” move, meaning that that the sector no longer has to lament the loss of another Emmy slot.
Given that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has been moved to the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series category this year after seven consecutive wins for Outstanding Variety Talk Series, it is a boon for The Daily Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live!
It could also the door to shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon...

Absurdity is on the menu in Drag Me to Dinner, a faux game show pitting drag queens against each other as they assemble the most glamorous themed dinner parties they can muster in 30 minutes. Each week on “The Pit Stop,” Bianca Del Rio recaps the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season 8 alongside a guest host. Following Friday’s premiere episode, All Stars 2 winner and former “Pit Stop” host Alaska returns to dish the opening moments of the new season. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of episode 1, Bianca and Alaska started by critiquing the opening look choices that the queens made. Alaska was confused why Naysha Lopez put on a prison jumpsuit, favoring more the queens that extended their known brand in their looks, like Kahanna Montrese and Heidi N Closet. Alaska’s personal favorite though was Jaymes Mansfield‘s and Bianca preferred Jimbo for being different and fun. Then, for the “Famous Then” and “Famous Now” runway mini challenge, Alaska and Bianca both liked Alexis Michelle‘s looks most.

RuPaul’s Drag Race has been on the air for over a decade, and throughout that time, the drag legend has created countless pop culture moments as a host and judge on the show. Her longtime friend Lady Bunny has made appearances on Drag Race as well, and their playful relationship remains on full display. Bunny recently revealed some tidbits of information about how RuPaul actually runs the show.

RuPaul’s career as a drag entertainer dates back to the 1980s. In 1982, Ru was an aspiring superstar living in Atlanta, Georgia. It was there where she met and became friends with Lady Bunny.
The two briefly worked as go-go dancers for a band called the Now Explosion, and they quickly became fixtures in the Atlanta gay scene in the early 1980s.

If anyone knows how to do the absolute most with their fifteen minutes, it’s a drag queen. While an appearance on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” can catapult a showgirl to a new level of fame, most of the former contestants can still be seen hustling for tips at the club long after their seasons are over. That’s just the way the game is played, and the savviest ones know to keep the show going if they want a lasting career.
Since first launching on LogoTV in 2009, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” has brought the art of drag worldwide recognition, introducing a new generation of drag artists and innovators. Shangela, Trixie & Katya, and Bianca del Rio have all parlayed their “Drag Race” fame into sustained and successful careers. But for every former contestant who established lucrative comedy, podcasting, and reality TV careers, there are dozens more who were never heard from again.

Following Friday’s thirteenth episode, Naomi Smalls returns to the recap show as a two-time makeover challenge winner herself. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of episode 13, both Naomi and Bianca say that they expected one of the twins to make the top five instead of the five that actually made it to this episode. Naomi said that Sugar is great at comedic timing, but Spice is more polished in her looks and so either could have been the one to make it this far. Like other queens before her, Naomi also took offense to queens like Luxx Noir London and Loosey Laduca being so pressed about their placements, especially Loosey trying to count mini challenge wins in her record.
