Juveria Zaheer made the most of her return to Jeopardy! in December when she smashed through the competition to win the first finals of the Second Chance tournament. But she isn’t the only member of her family to have success on a popular game show. During her first Jeopardy! episode, which aired back on May 8, 2023, Juveria gave an impressive performance but came up short against super-champ Hannah Wilson. But it was during that episode when Juveria revealed to host Ken Jennings that her brother was an “evil mastermind” on Survivor. It’s true, Juveria’s brother is Omar Zaheer, who competed on Survivor 42 back in 2022. A veterinarian from Whitby, Ontario, Omar was considered one of the biggest strategic threats on the season and made it all the way to sixth place before he was blindsided by his ally and eventual winner, Maryanne Oketch. “Finally coming to terms with being...

Geo Bustamante couldn’t have been more excited to have secured himself the Knowledge Is Power advantage on “Survivor 43,” despite what he already (sorta) knew to be true: it’s a curse! Upon getting the advantage in Episode 5 he said, “This is what I came here for! I came to ‘Survivor’ to get an idol or to get an advantage. I’ve never seen anybody use the Knowledge Is Power successfully, but it’s a very powerful tool.” He went on to say he’d save it because he was certain he wouldn’t be voted out that night. Less than 15 minutes later, Geo was the fifth person voted out of the game.
With Geo’s finding of the advantage and subsequent elimination, he became the third of three players to hold the Knowledge Is Power advantage and not use it successfully. For Geo, finding the advantage wasn’t the curse,...

“Survivor 42” has come and gone and while some are celebrating Maryanne Oketch‘s victory, other fans believed that a different finalist should have won. Mike Turner ultimately received only one of the eight jury votes, but viewers are feeling much more generous to the 57-year-old firefighter, according to our latest fan poll. (Read our minute-by-minute recap of the season finale.)
When asked who really deserved to win “Survivor 42,” the support for Mike was overwhelming, collecting a whopping 65 of the vote. The New Jersey native played a strong social game, forming close bonds with numerous players over the course of the season, but some of them felt betrayed when he then went and voted them out. At Final Tribal Council, Mike initially tried to argue that he played an honorable game, but he eventually admitted that he didn’t play with as much integrity as he thought he did.

After 26 hard-fought days and numerous twists and turns, “Survivor 42” officially has its champion. By a vote of 7-1-0, Maryanne Oketch was crowned Sole Survivor, winning the 1 million prize over fellow finalists Mike Turner and Romeo Escobar. This makes the 23-year-old seminary student the first Black woman since 2002 to win “Survivor,” joining Season 4 champ Vecepia Robinson. But do you think Maryanne deserved to win Season 42 or should someone else have taken the top prize? Vote in our poll below that includes the Top 3 finishers.
Maryanne spent much of the season as a fun presence, with a beaming smile to match her love of the game. While some of her tribemates admitted that her energy was a lot to take at times, she played enough of a strong social game to make it to the merge where she largely avoided being targeted thanks to bigger threats in the game. Maryanne Oketch pulled off arguably the most exciting move of the season last week on “Survivor 42” when she orchestrated the ouster of Omar Zaheer. She successfully utilized her extra vote to take him out with the help of only one other person, Romeo Escobar, resulting in a 3-2-2 vote. Romeo and Jonathan Young received those four other votes, and while both made for safer options to boot, Maryanne ultimately risked it all and took out the biggest player left in the game.

In our recent poll results, which asked fans to pick who they think deserved to be voted out last week, Omar received a sizable 58 of all votes. With the 30-year-old veterinarian secretly calling the shots for multiple post-merge votes, it only came to light after the previous Tribal Council that he was emerging as the biggest threat to win.

All season long, Jonathan Young has provided his fellow tribe mates with food as the island’s resident fisherman-hunter-gatherer. However, with just days left to go in the game, the 29-year-old Alabama resident is starting to get annoyed that the players are forgetting “how they got the food” he’s been providing on a regular basis. The scene in question takes place on Day 22 after Omar Zaheer wins the reward challenge and decides to take Romeo Escobar, Maryanne Oketch and Mike Turner with him on a chocolate cake date. “Obviously I’m not one that he chose,” Jonathan tells the camera. “I mean, I helped Omar through a lot, but that doesn’t mean that he’s gonna return the favor because it’s not about our relationship, it’s about the game.

“Survivor 42” saw the exit of one of its biggest power players last week when Hai Giang was blindsided by his former allies. The 28-year-old data scientist had been in the majority alliance post-merge, but (former) ally Omar Zaheer orchestrated his demise by telling a lie to Hai’s closest confidant, Mike Turner, which started the ball rolling. While Jonathan Young was the more obvious target due to his physical strength, Omar got his way and Hai was voted out of the game by a decisive 6-2 vote, and fans mostly agree with the move.

In a “Survivor 42” sneak peek video for the Wednesday, May 11 episode, Maryanne Oketch admits she’s having “so much fun” despite her toenail falling off. You read that right. When her fellow Top 7 castaways are sitting around killing time, she announces to the group, “Guys, I just lost my toenail.” The others are speechless at hearing that fact, particularly as Maryanne doesn’t seem to be upset at all. Why? Because apparently she loses her pinky toenails “pretty often,” she confesses. Watch the hilarious video above.

“No, no, no,” Lindsay Dolashewich quickly interjects. “It’s not normal to lose your toenails like that.”

‘Survivor 42’ Top 7 power rankings: Drea Wheeler and Omar Zaheer are best positioned to win the game
Before his epic blindside, Hai Giang was looking very strong in the race to win “Survivor 42.” Now that he’s out, control of the game is truly up for grabs and (mostly) any of the remaining seven castaways have a path to the win. Drea Wheeler could advantage her way to the end or Jonathan Young could win every immunity challenge through to the final three. Maybe the personal connections Omar Zaheer and Mike Turner have made with everyone will actually pay off. Or just maybe Romeo Escobar, Maryanne Oketch and Lindsay Dolashewich can pull off some last minute resume-building tricks to earn points with the jury.

Despite playing one of the stronger strategic games of the season, Hai Giang was blindsided at the end of the May 4 episode of “Survivor 42.” The 28-year-old data scientist had been a core member of the majority alliance, helping to make crucial decisions on who to vote out, but one of those past decisions proved fatal for his game, as Omar Zaheer turned Hai’s closest ally, Mike Turner, against him. Do you think Hai deserved to be voted out at this point in the game? Vote in our poll below, which includes everyone except for immunity winner Lindsay Dolashewich.
Hai was riding high after last week’s episode, in which he persuaded Mike to betray Rocksroy Bailey, who they voted out unanimously. Mike clearly felt guilty about his decision, stating at the beginning of this week’s episode that he felt like he was playing Hai’s game more than his own.

Following the May 4 episode of “Survivor 42,” only seven castaways still have a shot of joining the show’s iconic winners list. Among them is Omar Zaheer, who’s angling to become the first castaway of Muslim faith ever to win “Survivor” after two decades and 41 seasons. As of this writing, the 31-year-old Ontario exotic animal veterinarian is tied for the #1 spot (with Maryanne Oketch) in Gold Derby’s “Survivor 42” predictions, which are determined by our readers.

“Survivor 42” viewers are split on the poll results of last week’s highly debated episode. The hour ended with two Tribal Councils, one of them booting Rocksroy Bailey in a blindside and the other taking out Tori Meehan nearly by process of elimination. While fans believed that Rocksroy deserved to be voted out, they were significantly less enthused with Tori’s ouster, believing another castaway should have been sent to the jury instead.

‘Survivor 42’ deleted scene: Jonathan Young reveals he ‘almost passed out’ from lack of food [Watch]
In this week’s “Survivor 42” deleted scene, Jonathan Young reveals he “almost passed out” on the island from a lack of food (watch above). Remember, this year the castaways are not provided with free rice by CBS — instead, they have to earn their sustenance through rewards or other means. The previously unseen moment comes on Day 17 after Jonathan’s group wins a food reward of beef and veggie kebobs. “Food has helped me think way more clear, play the game way harder and enjoy life,” Jonathan says in a confessional. “Because I gotta tell you, for 16 days I was not feeling great. I was getting to the point where I had to slow down from standing up. I almost passed out. But now that I have food, I feel so much better.”

While the first Tribal Council in Episode 9 of “Survivor 42” was decidedly less heightened than the second, it still produced a surprising outcome. After the remaining 10 castaways were divided randomly into two groups of five, with both going to separate Tribal Councils, we saw players on the blue team making a big move. Rather than boot the obvious outsider in Romeo Escobar, the vote was flipped on Rocksroy Bailey due to his inflexibility. But do you think Rocksroy deserved to be voted out? Vote in our poll below.

Tori Meehan makes ‘Survivor’ history by winning first 2 individual immunity challenges of the season
Over the course of the first 21 years and 41 seasons of “Survivor,” only one woman had won the first two individual immunity challenges of her season: Laura Morett in 2009’s “Survivor: Samoa.” Now, her long-standing record has been tied by Tori Meehan, who just claimed back-to-back victories in the first two individual immunity challenges of “Survivor 42.” Talk about girl power!
One caveat in mentioning this record is that Laura’s initial immunity win was actually awarded to the best performing male (John Fincher) and female (Laura) of that specific challenge. Tori didn’t have to share either of her two immunity necklaces, which puts her truly in a league of her own when it comes to making “Survivor” history.

The two-hour merge episode of “Survivor 42” featured the same hourglass twist as last season, making only five of the 12 remaining contestants eligible to be voted out. The “Survivor 42” merge has ushered in an exciting new phase of the game. Like the previous season, the controversial hourglass twist was implemented, allowing one player to flip the results of the previous reward challenge and make the winning team vulnerable. This limited the pool of potential eliminations, with Lydia Meredith meeting her untimely demise. But do you think she was the right person to be the merge boot? Vote in our poll below.

Heading into the highly anticipated “merge” episode of “Survivor 42”, the Ika, Taku and Vati tribes were all even at four members apiece. However, even though host Jeff Probst told them to “drop your buffs,” he then added it’s “not exactly” a merge. “In fact, you are not merged.
