There’s nothing like a hearty meal in the depths of winter to lift the spirits amid what, for many, can be cold, gray days. Enter Ina Garten’s Winter Slaw. I served it to loved ones as part of a cozy meal at home. Rather than being a yummy, lightler addition to the rest of the food on the menu, it got decidedly negative reviews. Ahead, details on my experience making Garten’s Winter Slaw and why I may never make it again.

Garten, or the Barefoot Contessa, is known for creating simple dishes, and her Winter Slaw is no exception. Her official Barefoot Contessa website lists it as an “intermediate” dish with only three short steps.
It all sounded maybe deceptively easy when I first read through the instructions.

Jamie Lynn Spears, Kate Gosselin and Mel B are among the 16 celebrity contestants competing on Fox’s new reality competition, “Special Forces: The Ultimate Test”, it was announced Wednesday.
“Special Forces: The Ultimate Test”, slated for a January 2023 premiere, is being described as “the ultimate celebrity social experiment.” The competition series, which will not have formal eliminations, finds the celebrities enduring “the harshest, most grueling challenges from the playbook of the actual Special Forces selection process,” according to Fox. The only way for the celebrity recruits to leave is to go on their own accord, whether through failure or injury or by force.
Joining Spears, Gosselin and Mel B in the celebrity cast are Danny Amendola, former “Bachelorette” Hannah Brown, Tyler Florence, Dwight Howard, Montell Jordan, Gus Kenworthy, Nastia Liukin, Carli Lloyd, “7th Heaven”‘s Beverley Mitchell, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”‘s Kenya Moore, Mike Piazza, Dr. Drew Pinsky and Anthony Scaramucci.

“We’re going to make a lot of people happy today,” chef Tyler Florence promised recently on Instagram as he stirred a massive stock pot of Thai green curry. Florence and a team of World Central Kitchen volunteers were feeding first responders and evacuees of the Kincade Fire, which hit Sonoma Country, at the Santa Rosa County Fairgrounds. Somehow I missed the fact that a new “Top Chef” season – No. 16, to be exact — premiered two weeks ago. Thank goodness, my DVR remembered for me. While “The Great British Baking Show” has taken over the Bravo staple’s prime seat at the dining table of my heart when it became available on these shores, “Top Chef” is a close second in fulfilling what I crave in a cooking competition show.
The Food Network’s pantry of watching options continues to entice me. But they rarely fully satisfy my appetite. “Iron Chef America” is too beholden to a ticking clock and, like many food-related contests, is contained in a single space. I like the chef judges on “Chopped,” especially Alex Guarnascelli, but the format only occasionally allows for surprises and twists. I can tell the minute someone puts a crispy fish fillet atop a moist ingredient or pours on sesame...
