Just minutes before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was set to get underway in April 2023, New York Post Editor-in-Chief Keith Poole and star columnist Miranda Devine were on a mission to find an extra seat. Inside the Washington Hilton hotel, the pair had a very special guest that they needed to accommodate and their table was oversubscribed. After some musical chairs among staffers, Vivek Ramaswamy spent much of the evening talking with Poole, a Brit feted as a “boy wonder” in Murdoch circles.
Poole, who like all Murdoch editors has a direct line to “the boss,” had already created waves in his handling of Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential announcement. “Been There, Don That” was the headline that was tucked away on page 26 of the Nov. 22, 2022 edition of the Post. But it was the teaser at the bottom of the front page that went viral. “Florida man makes announcement.”
Soon, Poole would be in a pickle.

ESPN will be in business with Peyton Manning for years to come.
The Disney-owned sports media giant has inked what it is calling an “unprecedented” nine-year deal with Manning’s Omaha Productions, which will produce programming for ESPN into 2034.
The deal includes the “Manningcast” alternate telecast for Monday Night Football, technically called Monday Night Football With Peyton and Eli , in which the brothers banter and speak to guests during the game of the week.
It also includes other Omaha programming, like Peyton’s Places and Eli’s Places, as well as other shows and “opportunities for collaboration across multiple platforms,” per ESPN.
ESPN inked its first deal with Omaha in 2021, signing a three-year extension the following year. The new deal, however, is a major bet on Manning’s content and programming chops. ESPN and ABC’s NFL rights, it should be noted, currently run through 2032-33 season, with Super Bowl rights...

Chicago Med alum Torrey DeVitto gave a new interview exploring why she returned to the show.
Torrey played Dr. Natalie Manning for the first six seasons of Chicago Med, most of which had her character in a relationship with Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).
Her character had to leave the hospital after it was discovered that she was stealing drugs from a drug trial to help her mom.
Those drugs worked, keeping her mom around for much longer. Dr. Halstead tried to take the fall for Dr. Manning, but it didn’t work.
Torrey returned for the first episode of Season 7 to give her character closure. Will went to Natalie’s house to say goodbye to her and her son, giving them one final conversation before she finished packing her car to leave for Seattle.
Chicago Med fans were surprised when Torrey secretly returned to film a scene for the Season 8 finale.

NBCUniversal is testing a new game for the Paris Olympics.
The Comcast-backed media conglomerate has for years launched every Summer Games with primetime coverage of the Opening Ceremonies that typically feature a top sportscaster like Mike Tirico or Bob Costas alongside a popular news anchor such as Savannah Guthrie or Katie Couric. In 2024, the company is blowing up the format.
Kelly Clarkson and Peyton Manning will co-host the glitzy launch of NBC’s17 days of Olympics coverage alongside Tirico, with Guthrie and her “Today” co-host Hoda Kotb reporting on the spectacle — a parade of boats on the River Seine — along the route. The move adds some celebrity power to the broadcast at a time when more TV networks are trying to broaden the appeal of their sports portfolios and lure new crowds to games and contests of all sorts — and amortize the costly rights fees required to show them in the process.

If there’s one thing Americans like arguing about, it’s football. But this one isn’t about the Chiefs and the 49ers (or all of the Taylor Swift in between), but rather the Giants and…Top Gun? That’s right, one of the NFL’s most famous quarterbacks and the star of one of the highest-grossing films of the decade have clashed, prompting a brand new debate: Who handles a football better, Eli Manning or Glen Powell? But this one won’t be settled on the gridiron.
Glen Powell and Eli Manning had a humorous exchange soon after it was announced that the actor would be starring in an upcoming Hulu comedy series spawned from Manning’s own fictional undercover football wannabe. In his jab, Manning wrote, “I hope Glen is working on his Qb skills, I saw him throw a football in Maverick…he has some work to do!

No one loves Eli Manning as much as I do. Somewhere, I have a book on Manning inscribed, “To the only Giants fan who never booed Eli.” (Accurate.) There are the jerseys, cards, the autographs, the bobbleheads. I was at Eli’s first game, his retirement ceremony game, and so many in between. One time, I interviewed Manning while he was ostensibly promoting Frank’s RedHot Original sauce just so I could relive the glory days he never knew we shared. But I know a ripoff when I see one, and Hulu’s new series “Chad Powers” is a direct attempt to capitalize on the gigantic success of Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso.”
Before “Ted Lasso” was a show, Ted Lasso was a heightened fish-out-of-water original character created solely to promote a major media company’s sports brand. It was to be a one-and-done comedy skit. Before “Chad Powers” was a show,...

Taryn Manning’s audition for the Britney Spears starrer Crossroads was so good it made director Tamra Davis nervous.
“She was picking something on her arm, and it looked like it might start bleeding,” recalls Davis of a casting session for the 2002 road trip drama, written by soon-to-be TV mogul Shonda Rhimes. “I thought ‘Oh my, she’s too much, this girl.’ But at the same time, she was the girl.”
Manning was vying for the role of Mimi, a trailer park teen with dreams of moving to Los Angeles to make it as a singer. Manning so nailed the mannerisms and soul of a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who longed for stardom that Davis also felt confused. “I remember quietly telling [casting directors Kim Davis-Wagner and Justine Arteta] that while she was amazing, I needed a real actress. The 10th edition of the Next Step program of Cannes Critics’ Week is unfolding this week at the Moulin d’Andé artists residence in Normandy.

After the release of Britney Spears’ tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me, Crossroads, the 2002 road trip film starring Spears, was re-released in theaters last month.
Ann Carli, the film’s producer, and director Tamra Davis, surprised an audience at The Grove AMC in Los Angeles with a Q&a that took place after a screening.
Carli stated that she remembered standing up for Spears when her team attempted to make her work 18-hour shifts each day of production.
“She was super busy,” Carli said. “One of the things that I thought was really important was that she had time to rehearse with the other actors.”
Carli mentioned that “the day before she was shooting, they had a giant Pepsi commercial. It was crazy.”
According to Carli, Spears’ team, at one point during the shoot, “wanted her to be recording at night after she did a full day’s work on the set.

The 1997 race for the Heisman Trophy will be explored in an installment of the 14th season of ESPN’s “30 for 30” series.
Titled “The Great Heisman Race of 1997,” the ESPN Films docu will debut on Dec. 9 on ESPN immediately following the broadcast of the Heisman Trophy Ceremony, which will air on the network.
The doc will focus on the race between Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson. Manning stunned the sports world in 1997 by deciding to return for his senior season at the University of Tennessee and spurning the NFL, making him the Heisman front-runner as he set his sights on an SEC Championship. But while Manning was the preseason favorite, other candidates arrived during the season including Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf, Marshall University’s wide receiver Randy Moss and Woodson (University of Michigan). The docu, directed by Gentry Kirby, will use archival footage to examine and unpack the race for the hallowed honor.

Between “Beckham,” “Quarterback” and the nationally captivating “The Last Dance,” we are clearly living in our peak sports docuseries era. And now four-time, NBA champion LeBron James and hall of famers Peyton Manning have combined with the Obamas’ production company to contribute their own sports series centered around the NBA, Variety has confirmed.
James’ SpringHill Company (which he started with business partner Maverick Carter) will join Manning’s production company Omaha Productions and the Obamas’ Higher Ground. The series will divide up each episode following various NBA athletes as they live their lives, similar to the Netflix docuseries “Quarterback,” which followed three NFL quarterbacks during the 2022-2023 football season.
Higher Ground’s “American Factory” won the Academy Award for best documentary in 2019 and past films “Crip Camp” and “Becoming” were both nominated. The production company currently has a first look deal with Netflix, so assumptions are being made that this...

It’s already been a good year for the English cinematographer turned writer-director Molly Manning Walker. A film that she shot, “Scrapper,” won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, as well as praise for her vibrant lensing. Now, her first feature, the intimate, near-anthropological “How to Have Sex,” premieres as part of Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section. And to top it off, Mubi has already acquired the title for major territories.
“How to Have Sex” follows three female teens on a summer holiday in the loud, hectic party town of Malia, Crete. Having just completed their Gcse exams, the English trio are ready to let off steam by drinking, dancing and getting laid. This latter goal ranks as the most sensitive for petite Tara (Mia McKenna-Bruce), who still retains her virginity. The film shows how having sex as a teenager is complicated and the role that peer pressure and consent...

Peter Chernin’s North Road Co. has taken a minority stake in Omaha Prods., the busy production banner headed by NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning.
The deal brings an influx of capital to Omaha and it allows the company to tap into the production and distribution infrastructure that Chernin is building through North Road, which launched last year with backing from private equity giants Providence Equity and Apollo Global Management. North Road is in assembling a roster of content banners with the goal of creating a strong independent source of TV and film titles for buyers, particularly those outside the U.S.
Omaha is already co-producing projects with North Road-affiliated Words + Pictures, which is headed by former ESPN programming executive Connor Schell. Omaha made a splash starting with the 2021 football season with the launch of its “ManningCast” alternative telecast of “Monday Night Football” featuring Manning and his brother Eli Manning,...
