Former Queen Anne of Romania was born on 18 September 1923 in Paris, France. She was married to King Michael. She died on 1 August 2016 in Morges, Vaud, Switzerland.
She met her future husband Michael in November 1947 in London, where they had both come for the wedding of the future Queen Elizabeth II and Philip Mountbatten. They became engaged soon afterward. Michael returned to Romania, but was forced to abdicate by the communists in December 1947. He went into exile, and returned after communism ended; Anne's first visit to Romania was at Easter 1992.
