Exclusive: A little over a month after Season 3 of Resident Alien wrapped its run on Syfy, the future of the quirky sci-fi comedy-drama is up in the air. And there is some intrigue over where the series starring Alan Tudyk would continue should it get a fourth season.
I hear there are talks about Resident Alien moving from Syfy to NBCU cable sibling USA Network, which currently doesn’t have scripted originals besides Chucky, which it shares with Syfy. According to sources, a return to Syfy appears unlikely, so USA is Resident Alien‘s only feasible destination within NBCU, whose UCP division produces the adaptation of the comic book by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse.
But a potential Season 4 pickup by USA would come with a major budget reduction, as much as $500,000 an episode, which will be challenging, I hear.

I have enjoyed watching Charlie Day in movies like Horrible Bosses and its sequel, Fist Fight, Vacation, and others. I like his screen presence and find his comedic performances to be very amusing… and yet I still haven’t gotten around to watching a single episode of his sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which is currently sixteen seasons deep. I’m going to check that show out one of these days. In the meantime, Deadline reports that Day is set to star in a murder mystery called Kill Me, and he’s being joined in the cast by Allison Williams of Get Out, M3GAN, and Girls.
Written and directed by Peter Warren (The Auteur), Kill Me will see Day taking on the role of Jimmy, who wakes up in a bathtub after having tried to kill himself. Or, at least, that’s what it looks like to his friends and family.

From XYZ Films and Dark Horse Entertainment, Charlie Day (Fool’s Paradise) has been set to star in the dark comedy Kill Me, directed and written by Peter Warren (The Auteur).
The upcoming film is said to be “a gripping, hilarious, and deeply moving murder mystery.”
In Kill Me, Jimmy (Charlie Day) wakes up in a bathtub after having tried to kill himself. Or, at least, that’s what it looks like to his friends and family.
Jimmy is pretty sure he didn’t do it…Maybe. Together with Margot, the 911 operator who took his call, Jimmy sets out on a mission to solve a vitally important whodunit: did someone try to kill him, or are they chasing the specter of depression?
“When we first read Peter Warren’s script, we were impressed with his honest portrayal of depression and mental health, while still delivering a great mystery with plenty of humor.

Abubakr Ali, the titular star of the recently canceled Netflix series Grendel, is speaking out about the show’s cancellation and what it means for Muslim representation on the screen.
In Grendel, Ali became the first Arab Muslim male actor to portray a series lead in a comic book adaptation. Earlier this week, Netflix revealed it would not be moving forward with the series. The decision was made after Grendel had done the bulk of its filming but the series was not finished, so there is currently a partial eight-episode season in the can. Producers have the option to shop the series.
In a post on Instagram, Ali noted that “Despite making up 24 percent of the world’s population, Muslim actors only make up 1 of speaking characters on TV.”
“I was really excited for what this role meant to my community,” he continued. “I never thought this business would allow...

“Grendel” is no longer happening at Netflix, Variety has confirmed.
Based on Matt Wagner’s popular comic books, the series (which had an eight episode order) follows Hunter Rose, a fencer, writer and assassin who fights organized crime in New York to avenge the death of a lost love, until he ends up taking over the crime scene himself. It was originally picked up at Netflix in September 2021.
Producers now have the option to auction the project elsewhere. No further information has been released.
Abubakr Ali is set to play the show’s titular role. Netflix has renewed “The Umbrella Academy” for a fourth and final season, the streamer said Thursday. Writer, showrunner, director, and executive producer Steve Blackman isn’t going anywhere, though: he’ll write and produce new series and “other projects” at Netflix under his newly established Irish Cowboy production banner, the company said, and is currently developing video-game adaptation “Horizon Zero Dawn” and original concept “Orbital.”

Netflix’s comic book adaptation “The Umbrella Academy” returns for a third season while marking a notable milestone for transgender representation onscreen.

In Season 3 of “The Umbrella Academy,” the gifted Hargreeves siblings have found a new foe in the rival Sparrow Academy, which took their place during a time traveling mission to save the world. Netflix dropped the official trailer Thursday, giving fans a look at the insanity to come, including countless fight sequences, mysterious powers and a kugelblitz — a black hole formed from radiation that threatens to swallow the entire universe.
“When we jumped here, we created a time paradox. Our little paradox brought forth a kugelblitz,” Aidan Gallagher’s Number Five says in the trailer.
“What the hell is a kugelblitz?,” Elliot Page’s Viktor Hargeeves asks. “Essentially, we’re screwed,” Number Five responds.
This season, fans will also see changes in Page’s character, who was re-named Viktor from Vanya after Page came out as transgender in 2020. In March, Page announced that his character will also come out as trans on the new season.

Netflix has released first look images for “The Umbrella Academy” Season 3, offering a glimpse at the new timeline (and fight for the future) awaiting the oddball heroes in the new season.
After shutting down a 1963 apocalypse in Season 2, the Hargreeves, aka the Umbrella Academy, return home to the present day for a quick breather and short-lived relief over saving the timeline. But it doesn’t take long to realize they’ve changed the timeline more than they expected, and along with the realization that things are not completely Ok, comes the Sparrow Academy: a chilly, clever and fashionable group that clashes with the Umbrellas as soon as they enter the story. An unknown violent force causes damage (possibly thanks to them), bringing the Umbrellas to enlist Dad’s new family to help them correct something they may have caused while trying to fix the Universe’s timeline.

“You gotta take things to the next level,” Johnny says to his students. “Eagles do not respond. They swoop down and take whatever they want.

Netflix is developing a new drama series titled “Revenge Inc.” Variety has learned exclusively from sources.
Plot details on the show are being kept mostly under wraps, but sources say it would focus on a secret, underground company that specializes in revenge.
Matthew Arnold serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the project. Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Chris Tongue of Dark Horse Entertainment, the production arm of Dark Horse Comics, will also executive produce.
Dark Horse currently has a first-look deal at Netflix. “Revenge Inc” is not based on a Dark Horse comic, but rather is an original idea. According to sources, Tongue brought the idea to the company for development.
Reps for Netflix, Dark Horse, and Arnold declined to comment.
Arnold most recently co-developed and executive produced the NBC epic drama “Emerald City,” which was a modern reimagining of “The Wizard of Oz.” He is also...
