After fifteen seasons and 324 episodes, the long-running crime procedural series Criminal Minds came to an end in 2020… but it didn’t take long for rumblings of a revival to emerge. That revival has taken the form of Criminal Minds: Evolution, and Paramount+ have released the first trailer for the upcoming series.
Criminal Minds: Evolution sees the return of Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez, A.J. Cook as Jennifer “JJ” Jareau, Aisha Tyler as Tara Lewis, Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, and Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia. This time around, the Behavioral Analysis Unit will be going up against “their greatest threat yet,” a network of serial killers who have been recruited during the pandemic by Elias Volt (Zach Gilford), an operations analyst at a global cybersecurity firm with a dark side and an obsession with death.

“It’s not over. We’re just getting started,” Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) says in the Criminal Minds: Evolution trailer, and oh, we are so happy that’s true. “The witching hour, when every child was in a deep, deep sleep and the dark things had the world all to themselves,” Zach Gilford, who will recur as Elias Voit, the Big Bad, narrates to kick it off. And we have chills. As Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) sees, 16 dead bodies are found in a shipping container, with the victims from 2005 to 2020 (a.k.a. the years Criminal Minds originally ran on CBS). They have a serial killer on their hands, and their UnSub has gathered followers he’s activating. “All my years as a profiler, I studied killers, but I never studied what a pandemic would do to them. Thy couldn’t move. They couldn’t hunt. So they started communicating,...

Updated with Paramount+ confirmation, additional details: After more than a year of on- and off- dealmaking, Paramount+ on Thursday confirmed it has ordered to series a Criminal Minds revival starring six fan favorite cast members, Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler and Paget Brewster. As we previously reported, also back is the series’ longtime executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer who closed her deal to return earlier a couple of months ago. The actors’ contracts had been contingent on Messer signing a pact with ABC Signature where she is under an overall deal.
As Deadline reported exclusively, by February, Criminal Minds studios ABC Signature and CBS Studios had reached a license agreement with Paramount+ for a 10-episode new season of Criminal Minds. The last several months were spent getting Messer and the cast officially on board, triggering a formal green light, with production slated to begin Aug.

It’s just been over two years since Criminal Minds ended its 15-season run on CBS, and the series has already been (officially) revived, with six members of the cast returning for a new series on Paramount+. But this time, David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau (A.J. Cook), Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez), and Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) will be tackling one case over the 10 episodes, whereas the original run mostly had the team dealing with standalones. The team will “come up against their greatest threat yet, an UnSub who has used the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers,” the logline reads. “Now, as the world opens back up, the network goes operational, and our team must hunt them down, one murder at a time.” Given what we’ve seen from how the series has handled recurring...

It’s official: The Bau is coming back, this time on Paramount+. It was only February 2020 when Criminal Minds wrapped its 15-season run on CBS, and a year later, Paramount+ announced that it would be reviving the procedural drama with a 10-episode series in which the team investigated “a single, fascinating case.” Now, it is officially happening, with TVLine reporting that the streaming service has ordered the revival to series. Returning for the 10 new episodes are Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss), A.J. Cook (Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia), Adam Rodriguez (Luke Alvez), and Aisha Tyler (Dr. Tara Lewis). The confirmation comes the day after Mantegna shared a photo of himself on the beginnings of a very-familiar looking set on Twitter. “Just doing a little inspection today for an upcoming project,” he wrote, along with the hashtag for Criminal Minds. When the Bau was last seen,...
