Michael Shayan is an Emmy Award-nominated Iranian-American writer, producer & performer. He was recently recognized by Out Magazine on the OUT100 list of the most "impactful and influential LGBTQ+ people." His play "Avaaz" world premiered on South Coast Repertory's main stage, featuring a Tony and Emmy Award-winning creative team led by Tony Award nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel. "Avaaz" marks the first major production of an Iranian play in Southern California.
Michael is a Fellow with the Sundance Institute, Sun Valley Writers Conference, and Lambda Literary, and his plays have been produced and developed at Audible, South Coast Repertory, The Geffen Playhouse, La MaMa, Ojai Playwrights Conference, and The Lark, among others. He was a Consulting Producer and writer for 6-time Emmy-nominated "The Book of Queer" and worked on the Emmy Award-winning "We're Here." He studied Playwriting at Harvard University and got a Masters in Playwriting from Brooklyn College. At 13, he was the youngest performer in the history of the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood.
