When Lights Out begins, Patrick 'Lights' Leary (Holt McCallany) isn't a man that is going to go through life with his hands tied behind his back. Five years after a career-ending fight, the former heavyweight champion is out of the game, but is content with living a life in suburbia with his wife (Catherine McCormack) and three daughters as he plays house dad in what seems to be the picture perfect post-career life.
However, as the series premiere progresses, we learn this is far from true. Lights has more problems than a simple boxing match. The poor economic situation has eroded away most of his fortune,...

As "Friday Night Lights" prepares to take the field for the last time, those of us who are unhealthily over-invested in Coach Taylor are looking for something to numb the pain that will inevitably follow "Fnl's" final episode.
FX's "Lights Out" may be an unexpected contender. Holt McCallany plays Patrick "Lights" Leary, a former heavyweight boxing champion with an itch to return to the ring to support his wife and three daughters. The marketing has largely swayed toward the boxing aspect of the show, with posters displaying McCallany looking stone-faced and bloody, gloves up, but we're particularly drawn to the way the series taps into Leary's family life outside the ring.
If Coach Taylor parents like a coach, Leary parents like a boxer, as you can see from the clip below. Played by Meredith Hagner, Ryann Shane, and "Fringe's" Lily Pilblad, Leary's daughters bring out his softer side. Their boyfriends,...

Considering the popularity of sports movies and their feel-good formulas, it’s strange that TV hasn’t been more receptive to them, particularly when it comes to the dramatic potential behind a boxing drama. Rocky is the obvious shadow looming over FX’s new series Lights Out, which won’t escape being compared to Sylvester Stallone’s six-part saga, particularly as this show’s premise borrows plot-points from Rocky V and Rocky Balboa. But it brings enough fresh elements to feel like a separate entity, not entirely indebted to the Italian Stallion’s big-screen triumphs.
It helps that the pilot of Lights Out is fairly predictable, as it catches you unawares whenever it takes a detour, while being easy to understand the storyline and intention of the show from the get-go. Patrick “Lights” Leary (Holt McCallany) was heavyweight champ for nine months, before losing his title in a bout against...

It hardly seems like it's time, does it? Fringe's second (and best) season is drawing to a close, beginning on May 13 with "Over There, Part 1." And folks, it looks like a good one. It looks like we'll finally get to see Olivia cross over to the other dimension, and it doesn't exactly look like a fun place. First of all, Olivia's ginger. Not that I have anything against gingers — I'm a ginger myself — but Olivia just doesn't look right with red hair. Just like Charlie Francis doesn't look right bald. But Phillip Broyles certainly looks badass in the alternate universe, I'll give him that.
But first, there's the question of getting to the alternate universe. That's going to involve getting some of the Jacksonville kids back together, including Nick Lane from last season's "Bad Dreams." Last time we saw him, he was being put into a medically-induced coma and...

(S02E20) "And together they made goodness and lived happily ever after. The end." - Ella's happier ending to the story
Let's just get this out of the way right now. Lily Pilblad (Ella) and John Noble (Walter) need a Lot more scenes together. In fact, if the unthinkable happens and 'Fringe' is yanked off the air, these two should have their own show together. She's so darn cute, and they act like they've been doing scenes together for years. My favorite was when she was holding the bucket for Jean the Cow, who was happily chomping away while Walter and Ella talked storylines. Way too sweet.

Fringe fans, you are in for quite a treat. Tonight's new episode ("Brown Betty") features musical performances by the main characters. Before you roll your eyes or fear shark jumping, allow me to reassure you that the music in this episode is organic to the story.
While on the set of Fringe recently in Vancouver, I had the opportunity to ask the delightful Jasika Nicole about "Brown Betty" (which she refers to as "Overture," an earlier working title). I had interviewed Jasika on a few occasions prior to this, which is why you might notice a very casual and friendly rapport. Minor spoiler alert: in this video interview, we also discusses the season finale and alternate Astrid (a.k.a. Altrid).
The official Fox description of "Brown Betty" is as follows: while Walter (John Noble) deals with some upsetting news, he tells Olivia’s niece, Ella (guest star Lily Pilblad...

The promotional photos of "Fringe" episode which is wrapped in a musical tone have been released. Called "Brown Betty", the April 29 episode will see Walter dealing with some upsetting news, telling Olivia's niece, Ella (guest star Lily Pilblad), a fairy tale that includes musical performances by Olivia and Agent Broyles.
"We didn't set out to do a musical," executive producer Jeff Pinkner explained. "We set out to do an episode that explored Walter's state of mind - he's dealing with some very upsetting news. When we realized that the way Walter would deal with such news would be to try to anesthetize himself with copious amounts of marijuana, well, singing and dancing became a natural outcome."
John Noble aka Walter has shed more light into the unusual episode, saying "I've done some musical theater and enjoyed it. But I'm not the A-lister here. Lance Reddick is a superb musician, and...

The highly anticipated 'Musical' episode of Fringe is coming up just two weeks from tomorrow. Recently retitled to "Brown Betty," much of the episode takes place within Walter's drug addled mind – no surprise there. The episode will take advantage of the musical skills of many of the cast members. I'm most looking forward to Lance Reddick, who aside from playing some bad ass creepy characters is one cool cat in the Jazz scene. Here are the images and the description.
