With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom playing in theaters, the Dceu as we know it is over. It’s time to forge ahead with new projects on the horizon overseen by DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. Cameras have yet to roll for Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, Superman: Legacy, but rumors about who could play Big Blue’s broody counterpart, Batman, are making the rounds. Earlier this month, Reacher star Alan Ritchson said he’d love to play Batman while addressing rumors about him being up for the part. This statement sent fans into overdrive, with many supporting Ritchson’s interest in playing the Caped Crusader, including artist spdrmnkyxxiii, who recently posted artwork depicting Ritchson as Batman on Instagram.
“I would love to play Batman,” Ritchson told Fortress of Solitude about possibly playing Batman during an interview. “You know, [Batman without a cape] is a great analogy, actually,...

In the last 30-odd years we've had eight live-action films based on the Dark Knight (13 if you include the Dceu movies that featured him as a character) and with Matt Reeves' "The Batman: Part II" and a "Brave and the Bold" movie incoming, we'll soon have more. While some might see this as overkill, most of us have realized that Batman is one of those rare characters whose remarkable staying power has to do with the fact that he lends himself to this kind of constant reinvention. Val Kilmer saw Batman as a blank slate that any actor could play, but he's also a character on which seemingly any comic book artist, writer, or film director could put their spin. The point being that the Dark Knight has been such an enduringly popular character precisely because he means so many different things to so many people, and can be reimagined to seemingly no end.

As family, friends, and fans continue to mourn the loss of Friends star Matthew Perry, more stories about the comedic actor have come to light. Six days before Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub, the actor’s last public social media post sent a cryptic message across the information highway. On that evening, Perry wrote, “I’m Mattman,” which fans took as a nod to the actor’s obsession with the Caped Crusader. While conspiracy theorists attempt to crack the code of Perry’s mysterious message, The Hollywood Reporter thinks they’ve solved the Edward Nygma-like riddle.
The fact remains that Perry was something of a Batman obsessive. He spent $20 million on a 10,000-square-foot mansion to house a “bat cave” filled with Dark Knight memorabilia. Perry also titled the final chapter in his addiction memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, “Batman.” He even devised a nickname...

Josie Campbell, a writer on several recent animated projects released by DC, weighed in on the difference between Superman and Batman.
It’s the perennial question: Batman or Superman? Some fans may flock to the Crusader for his enormous wealth, cool cars, and high-tech gadgets. Others might find the appeal in Kal-El’s friendly face and unwavering sense of optimism.
And there’s no mistaking that when it comes to the big screen, Bruce Wayne has a bit more experience than Clark Kent. But exactly why has Bats been such an enduring figure in cinema history while Superman’s movies just haven’t broken through as effectively?

The Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight. The World’s Greatest Detective. The Bat. He is vengeance. He is the night. He is, of course, Bruce Wayne – aka Batman. And for 84 years and counting, ever since his introduction in Detective Comics #27 on 30 March 1939, Bill Finger and Bob Kane’s Guardian of Gotham City continues to dominate popular culture.
A superhero with no actual superpowers (except for fat stacks of Benjamins), Bats is – in essence – just a man trying to turn his pain into something positive; a vigilante in a cowl and cape who’s capable of evolving with the times to be whatever kind of hero the moment asks for. It’s no wonder such a dynamic array of filmmakers – from Leslie H. Martinson to Tim Burton among many, many others – have been inspired to send up the Bat-signal on the big screen in live-action and animation over the years.

During the late 1950s, DC Comics struck gold with the release of a number of horror titles, notably House of Mystery and House of Horror. Both of these have since gained cult classic status thanks to the legendary creative teams spinning chilling narratives around beautiful blood-curling macabre panels—very in sync with the classic Hammer and Grindhouse horror movies. In later years, with restrictions imposed by the Cca (Comics Code Authority), the element of horror gradually waned in mainstream comics. It made a sporadic resurgence during the Bronze Age of comics during the late 1970s, and using their Vertigo imprint titles, DC managed to keep the dread alive, especially through The Hellblazer and Sandman titles. Therefore, in the post-Rebirth era, DC Comics’ creative team’s perceivable interest in rejuvenating the horror themes in even mainstream series like Detective Comics and DCeased must have elated horror fans like myself.

Christopher Nolan has proven to be a great visionary in his field over the last few decades. His dedication to bringing big ideas to the screen while telling a personal story has been unrivaled as a director by his peers. When a Nolan film is released, it becomes an event for film fans. Some of his movies fare better than others, but they all have become ‘must see’ when they hit the big screen. With Oppenheimer hitting theaters, let’s look at some of Christopher Nolan’s best scenes.
Batman Begins (2005) – Bats
Nolan’s first venture in the world of superheroes. While he intended to make Batman as much of a real-world hero as he could, there had to be some tweaking of what would actually be possible from time to time. When Batman tries to rescue Rachel from the clutches of Scarecrow, he finds that he...

When it comes to superhero fiction, aside from the rogue gallery of the Trinity, which consists of Supes, Bats, and Spidey, the character Flash boasts the most versatile, well-written, and memorable coterie of villains, occasionally referred to as ‘The Rogues.’ As consideration of a live-action Flash movie started making rounds in the late 80s, a number of classic ‘Rogues’ like Captain Boomerang, Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, Trickster, Heatwave, and Mirror Master were considered to play the role of antagonist(s) throughout various drafts under different directors. Back in 2015, when finally a feature entry of the character as a part of the Dceu entered the pre-production stage, it was reported that the movie would adapt the seminal comic storyline Flashpoint. The news excited readers immensely as it presented the chance to see the fan-favorite antagonist Reverse Flash on the silver screen for the first time, as Flash’s arch-enemy is integral to the story,...

The following article contains spoilers for "The Batman."
Paul Dano gave a powerful performance as Edward Nashton, aka The Riddler, in "The Batman." The character was re-imagined as a creepily modern (and realistic) villain who recruits followers online, keeping his identity secret. Nashton started off as a destitute orphan before taking out people he perceives as being rich and corrupt, all the while sending messages to Batman (Robert Pattinson), an individual Nashton thinks will be very pleased with his machinations.
Batman, as a character, is typically defined by his opponents and vice versa. Like The Joker (Heath Ledger) in "The Dark Knight" says to Christian Bale's Caped Crusader, "I don't wanna kill you, what would I do without you? Go back to rippin' off mob dealers? No, no, you complete me." The Riddler in "The Batman" is no different. Edward Nashton has a sense of hero worship for Batman...
