Exclusive: Jennifer Garner (Alias) is set to star with fellow Golden Globe winner Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird) in true-crime movie Fruitcake.
Max Winkler is directing the true story about Sandy and Kay Jenkins, a seemingly upstanding middle-class couple who went on to embezzle millions from popular Texas-based business Collin Street Bakery. Hauser will play Sandy — an unassuming accountant who was funneling large sums of money into his accounts and credit card bills to support a lavish lifestyle, including expensive jewelry, private jet trips and a second home in New Mexico — while Garner will play his wife, Kay.
Based on the Texas Monthly article “Just Desserts” by Katy Vine, who will serve as a consultant, the 2016 Black List screenplay is written by Trey Selman and produced by Red Sanders at Texas-based Red Entertainment along with Trey Selman.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and her LoveSpell Entertainment have acquired the rights to She Had Brains, a Body, and the Ability to Make Men Love Her, a Texas Monthly article about a hooker housewife, with plans of starring in and producing a feature adaptation. The article, which was written by Katy Vine and appeared in the January issue, tells the tale of a 22-year-old housewife and former homecoming queen in Odessa, Texas, who became one of the city's most popular hookers until she, her co-workers and 68 prominent Odessa residents were arrested in a scandal that shook the city. LoveSpell and Untitled Entertainment are currently out to writers to adapt the material, which they hope to turn into a comedy.
