Ninjas have never been out of vogue but between last year’s Turtles animated feature “Mutant Mayhem” and the recently-released Netflix series “House of Ninjas,” it’s fair to say they’re having a moment.
Not that your average “Ninjago” fan (average age 6-8) would care about whether or not ninjas are in vogue. Since launching simultaneously as a show and product 13 years ago, the Lego-originated IP has spawned 16 seasons, 235 episodes, a 2017 feature film starring Jackie Chan, theme park attractions and, of course, plenty of toys.
In 2023 “Ninjago” was semi-rebooted under a fresh title “Ninjago: Dragons Rising,” which introduced new characters and story arcs. In part the change came about because the “Ninjago” universe was so vast there was no easy access point for a new generation of kids. “There’s so much material, it’s our longest running show,” says Asa Tait, head of production at Lego’s...

“Transformers: BotBots” is coming to Netflix next month. The animated series will launch on March 25, the streamer announced on Wednesday.
Along with the premiere date, Netflix released a first look at the franchise’s first comedy series, which gives a glimpse at some of the shenanigans that the toys will be getting into.
When a mall is hit with Energon, everyday objects from the food court, the hardware store and other locations, spring to life and convert into tiny Transformers robots called BotBots.
The toys formed squads based on the store they came from, but not every ‘bot was in their correct store when they came to life. By day, these BotBots hide quietly on mall store shelves but at night, they jump headfirst into adventure until a misfit group of BotBots called The Lost Bots run into the mall security guard and put all the ‘bots in danger. Netflix has ordered two new animated series in which “Transformers: BotBots” and “My Little Pony” characters will be “reimagined,” according to the streaming service.
Hasbro’s eOne studio is making 20 episodes of the “mischievous little Transformers robots” in 2-D. The BotBots already have a popular toy line with Hasbro — this is their first adaptation for the screen. BotBots, released in late 2018, are 1”-tall collectible characters that can change from an ordinary object into a little robot in “just 3-5 easy steps,” per the manufacturer.
The series, which hails from Kevin Burke and Chris “Doc” Wyatt, provided the following logline to media: BotBots are Transformers robots that disguise themselves as everyday mall objects. By day, these BotBots hide quietly on store shelves but at night, they jump into adventure until a group of BotBots called “The Lost Bots” run into the mall security guard and put all the bots in danger.

Star Wars prequels vs. sequels, how to work while traveling, the pushmi-pullyu, plus more in today's Link Tank!
Are the Star Wars prequels better than the sequels? Our friend over at The Mary Sue seems to think so.
"The verdict on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is in, and like the trilogy itself, the reactions have been mixed and all over the place. Critics rated the first two movies of the sequel trilogy highly, but many were less impressed by The Rise of Skywalker. Viewers’ mileage may vary, of course, with many finding it a satisfying end to the trilogy and its characters. Surprisingly, viewers’ ratings for the sequels are overall far higher than those that were given to the prequels, at least on Rotten Tomatoes, but that sentiment deserves a second look."

Iron Man and Captain America are venomized in the first official look at Spider-Man: Maximum Venom...
Everything's coming up Milhouse Venom in the first teaser for Spider-Man: Maximum Venom! Both Cap and Iron Man will be experiencing some serious symbiote vibes when the third season of the animated Disney show lands next year.
"This is the most epic conflict in the history of Marvel Animation," said Cort Lane, senior vice president of Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment, when the season's theme was first announced. "We planted the seeds in two seasons of Marvel’s Spider-Man and three seasons of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but you don’t need to have watched them to be blown away by this all-out symbiote invasion. While a ton of guest heroes will be on hand, Peter Parker’s special link to Venom makes him the only hero who can tip the scales to save humanity.

The concept of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure storytelling isn’t a new one; just ask any ’80s kid who grew up reading the classic book series, where you jumped from section to section based on your own decisions. But Netflix has now evolved the experience off the page and on the screen — taking advantage of the streaming model in new ways for TV storytelling.

Atomica, the new film from director Dagen Merrill, is a small-scale, character-based science fiction movie about two people stranded together in a single location and learning to live with one another while they both possibly conceal secrets. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it could also describe the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence vehicle, Passengers, from late 2016. I make this comparison not to suggest the former copied the latter—Atomica is no “mockbuster” imitation—but instead just to say that if I had to choose between Passengers and Atomica, I’d go with Atomica.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by SyFy Films. Director: Dagen Merrill. Writers: Kevin Burke, Federico Fernandez-Armesto and Adam Gyngell. Cast: Tom Sizemore, Sarah Habel and Dominic Monaghan. Atomica is a science fiction and mystery film. From Lifeboat Productions, the film was originally titled Deep Burial. Completed for a couple of years now, the film has recently been picked up by SyFy Films, for a theatrical launch. The film stars only three actors: Tom Sizemore, Sarah Habel and Dominic Monaghan. All three actors gel well together as a nuclear power plant begins to meltdown. But, who is who and what is each characters' real motivation? The answers to these question are revealed in Act III. Along the way, the protagonist, Abby (Habel), shows that she is capable of anything and everything! Very much a Mary Sue, this central character required a few more foibles, to make her believable.

Over the weekend, Marvel announced that they are developing a new Spider-Man animated series for Disney Xd. The series will simply be called Marvel's Spider-Man, and it's set to drop sometime in 2017. It will tell the story of "an unsure but courageous teen who has to figure out how to be a superhero from the very beginning."
The new series will replace the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, which is set to conclude in January 2017 in a two-part finale titled "Graduation Day." That story arc will see "Spider-Man stop Doctor Octopus and the Superior Sinister Six from destroying all of the heroes in New York City."
The news of the new series came from Cort Lane, the senior vice president of Marvel Animation and Family Entertainment at Nycc, and this is what he said about it in a statement:
“We’ve been secretly nurturing ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ for years now, so...

Marvel's avengers Assemble is a show that had the tough role of replacing an excellent series (which is of course earth's Mightiest Heroes). While the first season was "Meh" and received quite the hate from adult animated series fans and parents (notice how i did not mention kids) it seems things are finally looking better for the show. Especially after a great first episode. According to The Daily Marvelite, the series is now being written by Kevin Burke and Doc Wyatt, two excellent writers who have already gave us some great Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes episodes. Man of Action, who wrote most of the first season of Avengers Assemble, are now show consultants only (whatever that means). Other changes to the show is how the series will now focus on the whole team, rather than Iron-Man first then the team second. Roster wise, Ant-Man will join the team sometimes this season.
