Simon Curtis has lined up a quartet of stars for upcoming comedy “Encore” from “Twilight” banner Temple Hill Entertainment.
The film — announced by Protagonist Pictures, which is launching worldwide sales ahead of Cannes — will reunite eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close with Oscar winner Jeremy Irons 34 years after their critically acclaimed hit “Reversal of Fortune.” Henry Winkler and Don Johnson round out the ensemble cast.
Written by Academy Award nominee Robert Nelson Jacobs (“Chocolat”), “Encore” follows a group of retired actors as they attempt to reignite their passion for life. Former Broadway icons Marie (Close) and Nigel (Irons) are new residents of a retirement home, where they discover a community of forgotten talents. Motivated to revive Nigel’s passion for theater and embrace this new chapter in their life, Marie decides to stage a production with the residents, pulling everyone out of their past and into their present. This production will be their encore.

The Boogeyman is made for those of us who remember freaking out as kids over the possibility that monsters not only existed but were hiding in the closet or under the bed. I blame Stephen King for my night terrors, and now another of King’s short stories is about to become fodder for even more nightmares.
20th Century Studios’ new trailer shows a dad trying to convince his kid that there’s nothing to be afraid of. Of course he’s wrong and, of course, it’s the kid who has to pay the price as the target of a terrifying supernatural presence.
The new trailer arrived along with a suitably creepy poster in support of the horror film’s upcoming June 2, 2023 theatrical release.
Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), Chris Messina (Birds of Prey), Vivien Lyra Blair (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), Madison Hu (Bizaardvark), LisaGay Hamilton (Vice), and David Dastmalchian (Dune) star.

The trailer for Stephen King’s “The Boogeyman” has arrived and one thing is for sure, we’re ready to double check for monsters under the bed.
The debut trailer for the new horror film, which debuted during Fox’s broadcast of the NFL NFC championship game, introduces Will (Chris Messina) getting ready to tuck his daughter, Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) into bed, before he checks the closet one last time to make sure no monsters have crept in. “Monster check complete,” Will says before exiting Sawyer’s well-lit room.
Just moments into her slumber, however, Sawyer feels the presence of something sinister in her room — strong enough to grab the attention of her older sister and high schooler, Sadie (Sophie Thatcher), who second guesses her practical nature when she experiences the presence herself.

Australia’s Aquarius Films has joined with the U.S.’s Anonymous Content to produce a futuristic crime thriller series “The Subjugate.” The series is an adaptation of a book of the same title by Amanda Bridgeman.
The story follows a pair of detectives who, in 2040, are called on to investigate a series of murders in a religious community which has turned its back on technology and the modern world. The obvious suspects are formerly violent offenders who have been turned into servants, but the town’s puritan citizens are also hostile and keen to avoid having their society and its institutions probed.
The original novel was published in 2018 by Angry Robot Books, and is the first part of a planned trilogy. The second book, “The Sensation” was released worldwide in October 2020 through Angry Robot Books (U.K.). Bridgeman is currently working on the final book in the series.

“Unimaginable.”
That’s how the cheerleading coach of Texas’ Silsbee High School describes the shooting death of 14-year-old Tristan Dilley, one of her athletes.
Dilley, a high school freshman, was found dead in her second-floor bedroom at her mother’s home in Buna, Texas, Sunday night. Police suspect the teen was killed by 19-year-old college student Paul Audrey Adams, whom she had secretly been dating. Adams committed suicide the day after Tristan was shot twice in the head with a .22-caliber magnum revolver.
“Tristan is the type of person when she’s gone, you feel the void,” coach Danielle Wehmeyer tells People.

Fourteen-year-old Tristan Dilley seemed to have everything to look forward to.
The vivacious teen was a freshman at Silsbee High School in Silsbee, Texas, and a valued member of their cheerleading squad. She participated in the school’s first homecoming prep rally late last month and, on Saturday night, attended a school dance and sleepover at a friend’s house.
But on Sunday, authorities say, Tristan’s 13-year-old brother discovered her dead in her second-floor bedroom at her mother’s home in Buna, Texas. She had been shot twice in the head with a .22-caliber magnum revolver two days before her 15th birthday.

Just in time for Halloween! Independent Lit manager, Hollywood Hustler, and all around nice gal Miss Kailey Alexis Marsh has just dropped the annual Blood List!
The Blood List is the top 13 most liked, unproduced dark genre screenplays of the year, released annually on Halloween. This is the 5th anniversary. Over 100 feature film executives vote on their top 3 favorite dark genre (horror, sci-fi, thriller) screenplays of the year. Seventy-seven of them earned votes, with screenplays requiring a minimum of four votes in order to make the final cut. I’m looking forward to reading some of these. Patrol and Family Vacation seem to be scripts that are in my wheelhouse. Coming in at number one is Ink and Bone, Zak Olkewicz’s horror spec script about a writer held hostage by his own creations that Dimension purchased earlier this year according to Deadline. Exclusive: DreamWorks is firming up a January production start for Glimmer, and a big reason for that is so that it will allow some scheduling room for Dylan O’Brien to play the lead. O’Brien is busy starring in Maze Runner for Fox, but he’s in talks for the lead, I hear. He’s repped by Wme. He’s also in the TV series Teen Wolf, and the schedule was moved so he could complete the season of that show before going off to do feature work. Ringan Ledwidge directs the sci-fi thriller about a group of teenagers who discover a portal to the past. When one of them changes history, the effects start to snowball with tragic consequences. Josh Schwartz and Carter Blanchard wrote the script. Madhouse’s Adam Kolbrenner and Ryan Cunningham produce with Mark Sourian.

There is either a couple of football fans or Jerry Maguire/Moneyball with this year’s most liked unproduced screenplay. Close to 300 hundred film executives provided with the Black List creators a top ten of their favorite screenplays of the year and the consensus first overall pick (with 65 votes) comes from the recently featured in Variety (10 Screenwriters to Watch 2012) tandem of Rajiv Joseph & Scott Rothman and their drama which has nothing to do with enlisting in the armed forces. Draft Day – about the day in the life of a fictitious Buffalo Bills Gm appears to currently be in turnaround — which only means I expect to see this greenlight perhaps a little later than sooner – worth noting: top spot almost guarantees that the film will indeed go into production (2006, 2010 and 2011 are the exceptions.) Among the more alluring logline subjects we find on the list, I’d be keen on reading the...

Time travel is as hot a subject today as it ever has been. The thought of traversing through different periods of human history is both thought-provoking and the kind of stuff that makes old Doc Brown shit in his pants. With all this back and forth it's about time someone found some footage along the way!
Variety reports that DreamWorks has shelled out mid-six figures to acquire Glimmer, a sci-fi/fantasy spec written by Carter Blanchard. The script is described as an "Amblin-esque" found-footage tale involving teenagers and time travel.
Adam Kolbrenner will produce for Madhouse, whose Robyn Meisinger and Ryan Cunningham will exec produce. No telling how Dread worthy this flick is going to turn out, but we'll keep on eye on things, and if there's a need to report back, you'll find it right here. Stay tuned!
