Dharamsala, May 20 (Ians) Half-centuries from Yashwasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal followed by Shimron Hetmyers’ stunning 46-run knock powered Rajasthan Royals to a 4-wicket win over Punjab Kings (Pbks) in a do-or-die match in Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, here on Friday.
The Royals thus put themselves in contention for the Playoffs spots as they moved to fifth on the table with this four-wicket win while Punjab Kings are officially out of the race.
After a shaky start, Sam Curran’s unbeaten 49 off 31 and Shahrukh Khan’s quickfire 41 not out off 28 balls along with Jitesh Sharma’s 31-ball 44 guided Punjab Kings to 187/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, half-centuries from Padikkal (51 off 30) and Jaiswal (50 off 36) and Hetmyer’s remarkable knock of 46 in just 28 deliveries and got them close to the finish line. Then Dhruv Jurel sealed the deal with a six helping his side to seal a win with two remaining.

“We will bowl. Looking at the dimensions and looking at what we require in the tournament, it is better to bowl. We need to win the game. Then see how the other games go. If you want to play good T20 cricket, you need to forget things.
“We have had four to five days off. One has to understand the conditions. We have a couple of changes. Last-minute changes. Ashwin misses out because of a back spasm,” Samson said at the toss.

Dharamsala, May 18 (Ians) Punjab Kings spin-bowling coach Sunil Joshi stated that giving last over to bowl to left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar was made on the basis of his showing in the first two overs.
Against Delhi Capitals at the Hpca Stadium in Dharamsala, Brar gave away just 16 runs in his first two overs. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan then handed him the ball to bowl the last over, which backfired massively as Brar gave away 23 runs with Rilee Rossouw at the crease.
“We bowled very well, in fact. The wicket was true. But the execution part was missing. In the T20 format, you try your luck and you do not execute and it is a matter of one over. So, that was the difference.”
“Brar and (Rahul) Chahar bowled well. But in the third over, Brar gave away 23 runs. So it was a matter of one over. If you look back, the...

Dharamsala, May 18 (Ians) While hailing Punjab Kings for taking the decision to retire out Atharva Taide during their 15-run loss to Delhi Capitals, former West Indies fast-bowler Ian Bishop believes that call could have come earlier in the innings.
Chasing 214 at the Hpca Stadium in Dharamshala, Punjab were at 128/3 and needed 86 runs in 30 balls, when they made a tactical move to retire out Taide, who made a 42-ball 55, in the 15th over, bringing an end to a 50-ball 78-run second-wicket partnership with Liam Livingstone, who would go on to make a scintillating 94 off 48 balls.
“The over before, I was getting ready to put on social media – retired out, but I was reluctant in case he did a Rahul Tewatia, and that kind of opprobrium being thrown back at me.”
“But I want to give them credit for actually making the decision, whoever made it, because it’s not an easy decision to make,...

Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner said that Ripal Patel will miss this game.

Chennai, April 30 (Ians) Chennai Super Kings (Csk) won the toss and elected to bat first against Punjab Kings (Pbks) in the Ipl 2023 match here at Ma Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.
While Csk are unchanged, Harpreet Brar being back in the line-up is the only change Pbks has made in their playing XI.

On the other hand, Pbks skipper Shikhar Dhawan said: “We would have loved to bat first. It is a day game and a dry wicket. A new and a new beginning. We keep on learning from past games. Try to get better.
