Fox has put in development a single-camera Gordon Ramsay-inspired chef comedy from Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, creators of the 2016 Uncle Buck series reboot, Ramsay and his Studio Ramsay and SideCar Content Accelerator, headed by Gail Berman. The project is a co-production between SideCar and Fox Entertainment.
Written by Cragg and Bradley, in the Untitled Steven Cragg/Brian Bradley/Gordon Ramsay comedy, after a huge blow up with her perfectionist, demanding, Gordon Ramsay-like mentor, young chef, Lena, decides to strike out on her own. Thinking there’s got to be a better way to run a kitchen, she opens her own restaurant. But after a twist of fate throws them back together, she finds herself stuck with her opinionated, foul mouthed former boss, not only in her kitchen, but in her personal life too.
Cragg and Bradley executive produce with Ramsay via Studio Ramsay and Gail Berman for Sidecar.

And we're back to pre-upfronts craziness! ABC announced on Friday (May 8) morning that it has given a series order to the comedy "Uncle Buck." And they're still calling it "Uncle Buck." Written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, the Universal Television and ABC Studios production is an African-American-centric spin on the John Hughes movie that was previously adapted for TV in 1990 starring Kevin Meaney. "Uncle Buck" stars Mike Epps, Nia Long, James Lesure, Iman Benson, Sayeed Shahidi and Aalyrah Caldwell. Back in March, I wrote about why it was probably a bad idea for an African-American take on "Uncle Buck" to be called "Uncle Buck." It's still true. The ABC description of the core premise does nothing to assuage my concerns: "Based on the hit movie of the same name, Uncle Buck (Mike Epps) is a fun loving but irresponsible guy who needs a job and a place to stay.

James Lesure is to star in ABC's Uncle Buck.
The Men at Work actor will appear in the single-camera comedy pilot alongside Mike Epps.
Lesure will play a father whose children are looked after in a childish way by his older brother (Epps), Deadline reports.
The comedy is based on director John Hughes's 1989 film about a derelict uncle (John Candy) taking care of his niece and nephew.
Third Watch actress Nia Long also previously joined the pilot.
MADtv's Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley are writing and executive producing the Uncle Buck pilot.
ABC chose to move forward with the project in February, regardless of objections from the Candy and Hughes families.
Uncle Buck was previously adapted into a short-lived sitcom starring Kevin Meaney in 1990.

The latest trend that’s spreading through TV-land like the clap at summer camp is the ‘nostalgia movie revival.’ If your favourite comedy was released sometime in the 80s, there’s a strong chance you’re about to see it rebooted beyond recognition. We’ve witnessed the era of the unwanted sequel, the disastrous remake, and the pointless reboot, and we’re now well into a new season of reinvention. Movies are now considered ripe fruit for the plucking as TV networks are snapping up rights to the popular features of yesteryear like they’re going out of style. Next up on the chopping block is John Hughes’ cult classic, Uncle Buck.

After the high profile and, what Hollywood execs like to call “high concept” shows of last week’s article, this week I will be going through new pilots which follow two trends I like to call “remaking is breaking” and “Desperate Housewives is over and Grey’s Anatomy has got to end sometime”.
Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives have been big ratings pulls in the coveted demographic (18-49 if you don’t know) for ABC and have meant big advertising bucks. And, even though Grey’s prolific creator Shonda Rhimes, who will be show running three to five shows next season depending on pickups, has claimed that Grey’s will move past eight seasons, there is a general sense that the show is on the decline and, coupled with the loss of Desperate Housewives at the end of the current season, there is a definite hole in the market.

It’s no secret we love TV. We watch it, talk about it, review it and generally spend a lot of time with it. So, it should come as no surprise we’re very interested in what new shows may potentially be coming to the networks in the near future.
Fortunately, we don’t have to do a lot of work to find out, and you have to do even less, because the guys and gals at EW have gathered together lists of all of the 2010-2011 season pilot orders for ABC, CBS and NBC. Wasn’t that nice of them? Yes, yes it was.
Just between these three networks (we’ll bring you Fox and the others, including cable, later), 31 dramas and 29 comedies are being considered. What shows will make it to the Fall schedule is still anyone’s guess, and we’ll have to wait until May to find out,...

Now that it has lots of shelf space to fill at 10 p.m. (so long, Jay Leno!), NBC is looking to uber-producers like Jj Abrams, David E. Kelley and Jerry Bruckheimer to plug some serious holes in primetime this fall. And fans of the old must-see Frasier and Seinfeld format may have reason to rejoice: The network is finally re-investing in more multi-camera comedies like one starring Matthew Broderick. Here are the network's fall pilot orders, many of which are still being cast (decisions on which projects are ordered to series are typically made in the weeks leading up to NBC's presentation to advertisers,...

ABC really loves dealing with Bill Lawrence and his crew, don't they? 'Scrubs' has been on far longer than anyone expected, and 'Cougar Town' is now on its way to a second season. It seems like Steve McPherson and company haven't been deterred by the poor ratings of 'Scrubs,' since he's ordered a pilot from two of the show's writers.
'How to Be a Better American' is about a middle-aged man who goes on a journey to be a better man, dragging his unwilling family along with him. It's a single-camera comedy that will be run by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, longtime members of Team Lawrence; they will also be writing the pilot.
No casting news yet, so the show is more of a concept than anything else. But it sounds kind of like 'The Middle' in an Rv, which actually wouldn't be so bad.

"Arrested Development" and "Chuck" alumnus Tony Hale has joined the cast of ABC's comedy pilot "Awkward Situations for Men."

It's been a busy couple of days in pilot-land. The casting news:
- Martin Henderson ("Smokin' Aces") will star in the Jenna Bans-written, Shonda Rhimes-produced "Off the Map," the Hr says. He'll play one of a trio of doctors working at an isolated medical clinic. Henderson also starred in another Rhimes pilot for ABC, "Inside the Box," last year.
- British actor Matt Ryan will be part of CBS' "Criminal Minds" spinoff, playing a former British special forces soldier with a degree from Cambridge.

ABC is getting patriotic with a pilot order to single-camera comedy "How to Be a Better American."
On Friday, the network also picked up a multicamera comedy pilot penned by and starring writer/comedian Dana Gould.
The untitled Dana Gould project, from Warner Bros. TV and 3 Arts, centers on Dana (Gould), a guidance counselor at a local high school and father to two young children, who is caught between his father's old school parenting beliefs and his wife's very progressive ideals.
Gould is executive producing with 3 Arts' Tom Lassally and Dave Becky.
UTA-repped Gould's writing credits include "The Simpsons," for which he shared two best animated series Emmys with the rest of the show's producing team, and NBC's "Parks and Recreation." He also is a frequent contributor to HBO's Bill Maher Show."

It has become part of TV development lore: David E. Kelley spends his days fishing and writing in Northern California until he calls his reps and his producing studio, Warner Bros. TV, to tell them he has a pilot script ready.
The latest spec from "The Practice" creator, the legal drama "Kindreds," quietly was taken to networks this month. It sparked a bidding war before landing at NBC during a pilot-pickup season in which specs are hotter than ever before.
NBC's pilot orders for spec scripts include "Kindreds" and J.J. Abrams' "Undercovers," both from Wbtv, as well as "The Event," by writer Nick Wauters, which was reworked through Ums.
Carter Bays and Craig Thomas' comedy spec "Livin' on a Prayer," from 20th TV, received a green light from CBS in a rich pre-emptive deal. It joins two other 20th TV comedy specs-turned-pilots: "Traffic Light," by "Wedding Crashers" co-writer Bob Fisher,...

Friday's roster of pilot pickups, including two half-hour comedies that don't come from NBC Studios. It could be a sign the network is looking outside its own house in the search for hits. It's also a rare outside sale by ABC Studios to a network not named ABC.

Comedy "This Little Piggy" is getting a second shot, this time at NBC.
NBC on Friday evening ordered a pilot from the multi-camera sitcom, produced by ABC Studios.
Also on Friday night, NBC greenlighted another multi-camera comedy pilot, "Nathan vs. Nurture," from Sony TV, while Fox gave thumbs-up to legal drama "Pleading Guilty," from director-producer Jon Avnet, 20th TV and Chernin Entertainment.
"Piggy," about two adult siblings who, after falling on hard times, are forced to move back into their childhood home with their eldest brother and his family, was originally written on spec by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley. It landed a late presentation order by ABC in March 2009 and was set up at ABC Studios.
The project didn't make the cut for a series pickup but ABC Studios remained high on the project, extending the options on several cast member from the pilot at the end of June.
