Idris Elba’s Sam Nelson finds himself in an interesting position — zip-tied, yet trying to do right by one of the hijackers — in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek from Episode 4 of Apple TV+’s Hijack (out Wednesday, July 12).
When last we tuned into the real-time thriller, there was a lot going on. Sam and some neighbors in first class had deduced that the hijackers were wielding guns loaded with blanks, so when an unrelated commotion broke out — as Nasir tried to fetch his uncle’s insulin from an overhead bin, drawing pissy Jaden’s ire — Sam sneaked to the back...

Nickelodeon broadcasted an NFL playoff game for the second year in a row and it was a viral hit with kids and football fans alike. We interviewed the game’s broadcasters for a behind-the-scenes look!
This year’s slime-filled, kid-focused event took place on Sunday at AT&T Stadium as the Dallas Cowboys took on the San Francisco 49ers. Things didn’t go the Cowboys way, and despite their best efforts for a late game comeback, they fell to the 49ers, 23-17, but regardless of the score, the broadcast could not have been more exciting and several key moments went viral.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, last year’s game between the Saints and Bears had just 3,000 fans in attendance, but yesterday there were nearly 95,000 screaming Cowboys fans in attendance. Little did they know, they were all getting slimed! The augmented reality graphics were on another level this year,...

When you’ve had a big hit, it’s often all anybody wants from you. To artists, that level of success can feel like a trap. Fearful that the breadth of their creative genius may go unacknowledged, a singer might spend years trying to shake off a number one single, turning their back on requests for the old stuff and attempting to captivate fans with their Fresh New Sound. In such instances, results vary.
A saner alternative is to embrace what made that success happen, and try to repeat it. That’s what The Inbetweeners creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have done in new BBC sitcom The First Team. Bar the cast, they’ve got the old band back together – the same writer-directors uniting with the same script editor and executive producer under the same comedy controller. Instead of breaking the mould and wasting energy simply to demonstrate versatility,...

Two magpies are fighting to the death outside Damon Beesley’s window. The violence is distracting him from the task in hand. “It’s just too much to ignore,” he tells Den of Geek, breaking off from an anecdote about the filming of new BBC football sitcom The First Team.
“Very Partridge that, by the way,” says his writing partner Iain Morris. “Super Partridge.”
Joining us on the call from La, Morris doesn’t have to contend with magpies; he’s dealing with a more existential struggle. The idea for The First Team arrived in 2009. “A decade ago – oh God, I’m so old.” Back then, the pair were pondering their next move after the second season of The Inbetweeners, the E4 schoolboy comedy that grew into a massive hit and two successful movies.
Beesley and Morris had found a groove, they realised, “writing about male insecurity. That’s what...

The Inbetweeners was a revelation, on the small screen and the big one, and even now, to this very day, every time we walk past a bus stop we think ‘w***ers’. We can’t help (sorry commuters!) Needles to say we’ve been patiently anticipating what creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley would conjure up next, and finally, coming to BBC2 this week, we have The First Team.
We had the pleasure of only speaking to the two writers/directors but also to the three leading cast-members, Shaquille Ali-Yebuah, Jack McMullen and Jake Short. The series, which is set behind the scenes at a fictional football club, we watch on as these promising youngsters navigate their way around the dressing room, and how they balance being famous with, you know, wiping your arse. We discuss the character with the three young lads, who all impress heavily in the show.

Fox also solidified another 2020 bow, setting a July 3 release for the Ryan Reynolds-Shawn Levy team-up Free Guy.
Mangold’s Ford-Ferrari movie stars Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby Carroll and current Oscar Best Actor nominee Christian Bale as British driver Ken Miles and centers on a team of American engineers and designers dispatched by Ford to build a new race car to defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans World Championship.

"We can all be sincere, but um, what's it all for?" A24 has unveiled the first trailer for The Souvenir, hot off of its back-to-back festival appearances at the Sundance Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival this year. It won the Grand Jury Prize, the top award, in the World Cinema Dramatic section at Sundance, and has earned quite a bit of acclaim from critics at both fests. Honor Swinton Byrne (Tilda Swinton's daughter) stars as Julie, a young woman try to get into filmmaking. The film chronicles her life with a manipulative, emotionally abusive older man she meets and falls in love with, played by Tom Burke. The cast includes Tilda Swinton, Richard Ayoade, Jack McMullen, and Frankie Wilson. This will appeal to those who love high art cinema, as it's a very nuanced personal story and many critics are falling head over heels for it. Here's the...

Tagline: “Time is Running Out.” Stephanie Joalland's The Quiet Hour will see DVD shelves this March. The film is a post-apocalyptic thriller, involving an alien invasion. The film was reviewed here: The Quiet Hour Reviewed on 28Dla. The film is a bit darker in tone, than what the promotional material reveals. Nominated for Best UK Feature at the Raindance Film Festival, The Quiet Hour is a gritty post-apocalyptic thriller with a human story at its core. I love the sprinkling of sci-fi here and how the FX are integrated into the moody British landscape.
The Quiet Hour is a UK science-fiction thriller written and directed by French director Stephanie Joalland and produced by Sean McConville. It stars Dakota Blue Richards (The Golden Compass), Karl Davies and Jack McMullen.
Synopsis:

Director/writer: Stéphanie Joalland. Cast: Dakota Blue Richards, Karl Davies, Jack McMullen and Brigitte Millar. The Quiet Hour is a science fiction drama. From Stéphanie Joalland, the film takes place during an alien invasion. Characters can only emerge from their hideaways for two hours a day and the local cannibals take advantage of these 120 minutes. Meanwhile, a desperate family struggles to survive, in these dire circumstances. Strangely, there are a number of suicidal characters, in this outing; they crack under the many pressures. And, the focus of the film is more on interaction and dialogue, versus action or story elements. The film is slowly paced through early acts, but the film is well produced, overall. Most science fiction fans will enjoy this indie film outing. Sarah (Dakota Blue Richards) is the protagonist of the film. The opening scene involves Sarah, burying her father. He has fallen victim to an alien attack.

Jack McMullen will take the lead role of Paul Varderman in The Knife That Killed Me, a gripping and tragically topical story of one boy’s spiral into knife-crime.
20 year old Jack (represented by David Daly Associates) from Merseyside, plays Finn Sharkey in Waterloo Road and also starred in the indie feature Seamonsters, premiering at film festivals this year. He was also on our screens at Christmas in the ITV drama Fast Freddie. He started acting as a child with regular roles in Brookside and Grange Hill.
The casting call for the lead role was posted on Screenterrier back in October 2011, as well an additional call for Yorkshire-based actors in January.
The script has been adapted from Anthony McGowan’s award winning novel by Kit Monkman and Marcus Romer, who will also direct, and is being produced by Thomas Mattinson and Alan Latham.

Director: Julian Kerridge Writers: Martin Sadofski, Julian Kerridge Starring: Jack McMullen, Reece Noi, Leila Mimmack, Georgia Henshaw, Rita Tushingham, Maggie O'Neill, Andrew Knott Seamonsters tells the story of two shiftless young friends, Sam (Jack McMullen) and Kieran (Reece Noi), who are biding their time during the off-season in the English seaside town of Worthing. Of course, even lifelong friendships can completely derail when a girl enters the picture. One day the boys meet Lori (Leila Mimmack), a mysterious, dark-eyed girl who’s somehow escaped their notice until now. Lori lives on the fringes with her sad,...

The Britain's Got Talent winner makes his first appearance in the BBC drama later this week as his alter ego Kyle is introduced as a new pupil.
