"Wu-Tang: An America Saga" may be bidding fans farewell after an impressive three-season run, each full of exciting hip-hop misadventures, but the story isn't ending without one last mind-blowing lap. The hit biopic drama, which made its splashy debut back in 2019, kicked off its third and final season on Hulu on Feb. 15, jumping to Wu-Tang Clan's wild success years after the big basement flood that almost ruined their solo albums. As the crew try to ride out their five-year plan - orchestrated by leader Bobby, aka RZA (Ashton Sanders) - the downsides of money, power, and fame test their will to stick together.
Fans of "Wu-Tang: An America Saga" are certainly sad to see the imaginative, truth-inspired hip-hop series come to an end, but the cast - which includes Sanders, Shameik Moore (Sha Raider/Raekwon), Siddiq Saunderson (Dennis Coles/Ghostface Killah), Tj Atoms (Ol' Dirty Bastard), Dave East (Method Man...

The star presumably had one eye on the paycheque in this by-the-numbers thriller about a debt collector punching and shooting his way to bloody revenge
Antonio Banderas is a class act but there’s only so much class he can reasonably be expected to supply. Taking what was presumably an attractive paycheque, Banderas stars in a movie whose essential personality could only be appreciated if Blockbuster Video were to be brought back to life, just for one week, so this could be placed in the straight-to-video bin next to every till.
Veteran screenwriter W Peter Ilff (who co-wrote Point Break) has dug this one out of his desk drawer and Australian adman-turned-film-maker Richard Hughes directs. Banderas plays ’Cuda (short for Barracuda), a careworn Miami debt collector and ex-con, working for Estelle (Kate Bosworth), scary club owner and mob boss. Not to be confused with the Clint Eastwood Enforcer (1976) or the Humphrey Bogart Enforcer (1951), this cheap and cheerful crime thriller stars Antonio Banderas as a strong-arm man who turns against his employers. As such, it’s entirely watchable and made with a degree of style, but it’s also predictably generic and occasionally laughable in its simplicity.
The Enforcer opens with one of those prologue sequences that immediately gives away the ending, as Banderas’ Cuda (short for Barracuda) reflects on what brought him to his current blood-soaked state. The rest of the story is then told in flashback, with Cuda taking new enforcer Stray under his wing, while working for slinky Miami mob boss Estelle.

Miami kingpin Estelle (Kate Bosworth) is looking for insurance. Not because she doesn’t trust her usual muscle Cuda (Antonio Banderas) anymore, but because she’s not sure how much time he has left in the tank let alone how well he’s going to adapt to a world running on online currency. Stuck in jail for a decade, his return is therefore just in time to train his replacement: a street fighter named Stray (Mojean Aria) who makes a living always battling above his weight class. The assumption is that he already has what it takes physically to handle himself when collecting Estelle’s taxes from the gangsters and lowlifes operating in her territory. So, if he learns even a fraction of Cuda’s patience and experience, he’ll turn out just fine.

“Tough guy with heart of gold” is the cliché that provides the gist to “The Enforcer,” and nothing much turns up to refresh or complicate that hoary hook. This criminal-underworld thriller benefits from Antonio Banderas’ star charisma as a veteran mob strong-arm who turns against his own organization in order to rescue an imperiled teen. Richard Hughes’ feature directorial debut also elevates matters somewhat with a slick and stylish presentation. But the results remain too hogtied by original “Point Break” scribe W. Peter Iliff’s routine, elemental screenplay to rise above the level of disposable genre fodder.
Cuda (Banderas) is just out of prison, having dutifully taken the heat for deeds done in service to Miami syndicate boss Estelle (Kate Bosworth). He hopes to restore relations with his 15-year-old daughter, but she’s wary after his long absence, his ex-wife outright hostile. Perhaps as a regretful result, he takes a...

"Those are some dangerous people." Screen Media Films has revealed an official trailer for a crime thriller from a first time filmmaker called The Enforcer, which is indeed about a mob enforcer. Truly an original name for this one. Miami's top mob enforcer Cuda, played by Antonio Banderas, sacrifices it all to tear down the criminal organization he's spent his whole life building up. He will give up everything to save a young girl he has befriended from his femme fatale boss who is involved in cybersex trafficking. It's his last chance to do something and make a difference before the mob comes after him. This definitely sounds like some derivative direct-to-vod junk, but somehow they got Banderas to star. The cast also includes Kate Bosworth, Mojean Aria, Zolee Griggs, and Alexis Ren, with 2 Chainz. This seems like yet another generic crime action film about rescuing young women. Same old story over and over.

“Wu-Tang: An American Saga” has been renewed for Season 3 at Hulu, which will also be the show’s last.
The news comes just over one week after the finale of Season 2 of the show, which is based on the true story of the pioneering rap group. The show is also inspired by the books “The Wu-Tang Manual” and “Tao of Wu,” both of which were co-authored by RZA, a founding member of The Wu-Tang Clan.

Following last year’s brain bending, psychedelic fantasy thriller Daniel Isn’t Real, writer/director Adam Egypt Mortimer hot-footed it back into production for his follow-up, Archenemy, a dazzlingly delirious part urban crime drama bolstered by cosmic action and funky, interdimensional superhero bedlam.
Teen wannabe crime reporter Hamster (Skylan Brooks) happens upon a haphazard hobo, Max Fist (Joe Manganiello) who claims to be a cosmic warrior from another dimension. After being dispelled to another reality by archenemy Cleo (Amy Seimetz), Fist finds himself homeless and without powers so sunk into a self-destructive coil of booze and drug abuse, until he meets Hamster.
Hamster thinks Fist’s story could land him a full time journalism position, but plans go awry after his drug pushing sister Indigo’s (Zolee Griggs) misgivings land the three of them in trouble with a local gang. Fist then sets out to rescue Indigo from the crime syndicate thus,...

Time is always fleeting, but never has it seemed as warped and malleable as it has in 2020. Reality has been a painful pill to swallow at times this past year, but thankfully we’ve seen bright spots through it all, from much-needed movements for social justice to people casting their ballots for a more stable future than what we’ve experienced these past several years.
As important as it was to stay in tune with the world at large in 2020, it was also important to take the time to unplug, unwind, and relax our minds. For many of us last year, occasional escapism wasn’t just a luxury, it was a survival skill, and thankfully there were still plenty of new horror films, books, video games, and other forms of entertainment to enjoy from the comfort (and safety) of our quarantined homes. Here are some of the horror genre’s...

Over the last few years, it’s been fun to watch filmmaker Adam Egypt Mortimer’s career evolve from films like Some Kind of Hate to Daniel Isn’t Real to his contribution in the anthology film Holidays. And now his latest, Archenemy, has Mortimer traversing new cinematic terrain with his story of an interdimensional superhero named Max Fist (played by Joe Manganiello) who finds himself down on his luck here on planet Earth, and must confront his past so that he can put an end to the reign of tyranny that his sworn enemy, Cleo (Amy Seimetz), is prepared to unleash on our planet.
Archenemy also stars Skylan Brooks, Zolee Griggs, Glenn Howerton, and Paul Scheer and will be released in theaters, on digital, and on demand today, courtesy of Rlje Films.

Superhero movies have become so pervasive since the turn of the millennium that they’ve spurred a whole subgenre of films subverting their formulas — primarily low-budget efforts like “Special,” “Super” and “Defendor,” but also major-studio projects “Joker” and “Hancock.” All share an interest in peeling back the mask, exploring the antisocial, delusional-fantasy side of superpowers.
Adam Egypt Mortimer’s third feature “Archenemy” occupies similar terrain, resourcefully using modest means to create a gritty yet stylized comic-book world in which a supposed fallen superhero may really just be some homeless guy with mental issues. However, that colorful surface is more successfully drawn than the characters and complications meant to fill it, leaving this noirish, (mostly) live-action cartoon feeling less like a dissection of superhero origin stories than an underdeveloped prologue to one.
It has its own prologue, marking the first of several sharp animated sequences credited to Sunando, Kevin Finnegan and Danny Perez.

Give Max Fist (Joe Manganiello) a fifth of whiskey and he’ll tell you about the alternate dimension that holds his home city of Chromium. He was a hero there: indestructible, revered, and fearless when confronted by the evil Cleo (Amy Seimetz) and her apocalyptic weapons. It was her “void machine” that ultimately banished him to our version of Earth after he ripped a hole in space-time to detonate it between realities and save mankind. His “reward” was an eternity in purgatory unless he could grab ahold of another dimension and pull his way through. Doing so unfortunately meant the mystical blue blood that made him whole, super strong, and able to fly after losing his arm there no longer existed. Suddenly he was human again, lost and alone.

In his new indie film “Archenemy,” Joe Manganiello steps into the shoes of a man who claims he was a superhero — but his character, Max Fist, isn’t the sort of guy who’d make Superman proud.
Instead, he’s an alcoholic, drug-addicted homeless man who claims he’s been stripped of his powers after being hurdled through time and space by his titular archenemy, Cleo (Amy Seimetz). It’s a full deconstruction of the superhero genre, complete with a plucky kid reporter (Skylan Brooks) — except, in a modern twist, he’s instead an aspiring social media influencer — and his sister (Zolee Griggs), who finds herself in over her head in her dealings with the local crime boss (Glenn Howerton).
Max starts to bond with the kids after Brooks’ character starts documenting him for clout, but it becomes quickly clear, as Max rambles drunkenly on about different dimensions and planets in exchange for more booze,...

"I used to punch holes through space-time!" Holy hell this looks badass! Rlje Films has revealed a full-length trailer for a gritty new genre film titled Archenemy, which premiering at Beyond Fest this month. This film is the latest creation from Daniel Isn't Real director Adam Egypt Mortimer, billed as intriguing superhero sci-fi action adventure horror crime thriller (aka a genre mashup!). We posted the teaser trailer earlier in the year, but this new trailer packs quite a punch (literally). Joe Manganiello stars as Max Fist, and he claims to be a hero from another dimension who fell through time and space to Earth. But here he has no powers. No one believes his stories except for local teen Hamster, played by Skylan Brooks. This also stars Glenn Howerton, Zolee Griggs, Joseph D. Reitman, and Amy Seimetz. I dig the gritty, brutal style and all of Manganiello's lines. I bet...

Writer/director Adam Egypt Mortimer really impressed me with last year's Daniel Isn't Real which provided an interesting new take on a familiar story and delivered it with an assurance of a seasoned filmmaker.
I was already predisposed to being excited for his new feature but Archenemy, which stars Hollywood's favourite dungeon master Joe Manganiello as Max Fist, a drunk who claims to be a super hero from another dimension who has fallen to Earth and lost his powers. Most people ignore his stories as grand tales or wishful thinking from a washout; everyone except for Hamster (Skylan Brooks), a local teen convinced that Max is telling the truth and the pair team-up to clean up the streets.
The film also stars Zolee Griggs, Amy Seimetz, and Glenn Howerton.

It's time to meet Max Fist. Voltage Pictures has debuted a promo teaser trailer for a gritty new genre film titled Archenemy, set to arrive sometime in 2021. This film is the latest from Daniel Isn't Real director Adam Egypt Mortimer, an intriguing superhero sci-fi action adventure horror crime thriller of sorts (aka a genre mashup!).
