Family Demons: The Ghost as Domestic Inheritance by Donna McRae
Low cinematic genres – (as Clover, Williams and Robin Wood and others) have often pointed out – often handle explosive social material that mainstream cinema is reluctant to touch. — Joan Hawkins (1)
Can you make a film about the aftermath of incest and child abuse and its effect on three generations of women in the same family? Would this film contain an inherited ghost running through the narrative that could represent repressed feelings of colonial guilt on another level? Could this film prick the conscience of a nation that might be shuddering in silence for all its past sins? Would you get funding for this film from an Australian funding agency if you didn't have a track record? Would this very serious film fill cinemas, especially Australian ones? Could you get international profile actors to star in your film? Or would Australian film actors like Gracie Otto,...

Jana Kramer, who guest stars on Monday's "One Tree Hill," has eclectic tastes in film.
Kramer, 26, who plays Alex Dupre, shared her Top 5 favorite films:
1. "The Shawshank Redemption"
2. "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"
3. "The Proposal"
4. "The Cutting Edge"
5. "Zombieland"
We definitely have issues with a couple of those films, but big props for including one of our recent favorites "Zombieland" and one of our all-time guilty pleasures, "The Cutting Edge."
In Monday's episode of "Oth," Brook (Sophia Bush) is trying to accept Julian's (Austin Nichols) reaction to Alex's (Kramer) crisis, while Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) prep for the family move overseas to Barcelona. Also, Clay (Robert Buckley) is still scheming to win back Nathan as a client with Quinn's (Shantel VanSanten) help.
What do you think of Jana's picks? A pretty fun bunch, eh?

ABC Family has greenlighted "The Cutting Edge: Fire & Ice," the fourth installment in the MGM-produced ice skating franchise that started with the 1992 feature "The Cutting Edge."
Following a direct-to-video sequel "The Cutting Edge: Going for Gold," the franchise moved to TV with ABC Family's 2008 movie "The Cutting Edge: Chasing a Dream" starring Francia Raisa as hockey player-turned-figure skater Alex Delgado.
In "Fire & Ice," Alex segues into teaching after her skating career comes to an abrupt halt when her partner on and off the ice is injured.
This time around, Raisa is joined by Brendan Fehr, who stars as James Van Behr, the smoldering bad boy of speedskating, who pairs up with Alex. The film chronicles the duo's grueling practice regimen and tempestuous relationship as they prepare for competition.
Stephen Herek ("Mr. Holland's Opus") is directing from a script by Holly Brix. Craig Roessler, Sara Berrisford and Hudson Hickman are exec producing.

Be it for speed, efficiency, technology, or style, these are the ultimate bikes in the industry for 2009. Who says you can't be eco-friendly, fit, terrain-gobbling, and head-turning all at once?
digg_url = 'http://www.fastcompany.com/multimedia/slideshows/content/bikes.html'; digg_skin = 'compact'; These nine bikes are all lightweight with high-grade materials. Carbon fiber is the secret sauce in almost every bike on this list, whether it’s in the frame or the components. Unlike metal, frame-builders can make carbon fiber stiff in one direction, and flexible in another. This means that frames can be made to absorb vibration better than metal, improving long distance comfort while staying rocket stiff for sprinting.
This cross-country mountain bike beats the rap that full-suspension bikes are squishy, inefficient, and heavy. The Yeti Asr’s ultra-light carbon fiber rig takes its design cues from carbon-fiber-based road bikes. Its rear suspension system doesn't bob when the rider pedals,...
