As Pcss founder Ben Anderson told Consequence ahead of last year’s event, the “bread and butter” of the event isn’t the performances, but the panel discussions dubbed Labs. Steve Poltz puts Dylan-esque wordplay and the electric acid-test colors of the Sixties on display in his new song and video for “Can O’ Pop.” It’s the latest track off the San Diego-raised, Nashville-based songwriter’s upcoming album Stardust & Satellites, out Feb. 18.
“Can O’ Pop” is a fizzy delight, with Poltz weaving in geographical allusions to tongue-twisting towns like Opelousas and Albuquerque while the Wood Brothers drummer Jano Rix lays down a beat with his congas. In one dizzying stream of lyrics, Poltz recalls how he “met his Bordeaux,...

Olivia Wolf, “Young Widow Blues”
Olivia Wolf knows from bluegrass: her grandfather is the founder of San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. In this haunting tale of death and loneliness, Wolf is walking her betrothed down the aisle, not for a wedding ceremony but a funeral.

Jewel has shared a previously unreleased demo of her 1996 hit “You Were Meant for Me,” set to appear on the 25th-anniversary edition of Pieces of You, out November 20th.
The demo (understandably) boasts a much rawer feel than the final product, with the woodwinds and soft drums stripped away to leave just Jewel’s voice and guitar. Joining Jewel on the demo is co-writer Steve Poltz, who provides a bit of back-up as they sing, “Dreams last so long, even after you’re gone/And I know that you love...

A classic Reba McEntire ballad, a Guy Clark cover from his acolyte Steve Earle and a Spanglish love song from the Last Bandoleros make up our list of the best country songs to hear this week.
The Last Bandoleros, “Enamorado”
A bilingual love song, “Enamorado” mixes the ramped-up romance of Latin pop ballads with the hooks and harmonies of Southwestern roots music. YouTube singing star Alexander Stewart co-wrote the track and released his own version last summer, but “Enamorado” sounds like a Last Bandoleros original, with all four bandmates contributing...

Singer-songwriter and guitarist Molly Tuttle is still a couple of months away from releasing her first full-length solo LP on independent label Compass Records, yet the 25-year-old performer has already stocked up on groundbreaking industry awards. Between her expressive, crystalline voice and astounding flatpicking guitar skills, Tuttle has made history as the International Bluegrass Music Association’s first-ever female Guitar Player of the Year (in 2017 and 2018) and the only female artist to take home a member-voted prize (Instrumentalist of the Year) at 2018’s Americana Honors & Awards ceremony.
