Hollywood is trying, but it’s awfully hard to put on a global celebration of the theatrical experience at CinemaCon when the entire entertainment industry is in upheaval.
With Sony saving its pennies by not coming to Las Vegas at all, with Disney thumbing its nose at the world with a presentation that said, “Nah, we aren’t bothering,” and with once-ambitious Fox dutifully tucked into the Disney universe — it was an underwhelming week.
Gone are the massive lunches for 5,000 people in a ballroom with a galaxy of stars lined up on the dais after being herded onto the corporate jet for a three-hour, door-to-door razzle-dazzle. Gone are the days of the enormous giveaway bags that people used to FedEx back to their hometowns because they were so unwieldy.

Warner Bros. Pictures, Live Nation Productions and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures made the announcement on Monday. The showings will include “The Road to Stardom,” an exclusive look at the making of “A Star Is Born,” featuring Cooper and Gaga, both of whom also wrote and produced many of the film’s songs, and performed them live for the movie.

Nearly two months after its release, “A Star Is Born” is getting set for a limited one-week engagement on IMAX screens nationwide, Warner Bros. announced on Monday.
Bradley Cooper’s remake of the classic Hollywood film has earned acclaim from critics and audiences alike, and is expected to contend for several major awards at the Oscars this year. It has also been part of a series of lucrative mid-budget hits for WB, grossing $193.7 million domestic and $362.2 million worldwide against a $36 million budget.
