Sony‘s untitled Karate Kid film is ready to make Ben Wang‘s heart go pitter-pat after adding Cruel Summer actress Sadie Stanley to the cast. Stanley plays the romantic lead opposite Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) in the forthcoming marital arts drama, which also stars Joshua Jackson, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.
Plot specifics remain a mystery, though we hear Sony will move the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds identity and strength in martial arts. During his journey of self-discovery, Wang’s character meets a disciplined martial arts master. With Chan and Macchio both appearing in the film, there’s a chance Wang’s character could train under two teachers. Jonathan Entwistle

"I hope you made peace with God..." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for a new indie western titled Hostile Territory, joining the ranks of a growing set of westerns being made recently. Most of them are indies and most of them are forgettable, but they're making more and more these days. Set in post-civil war America, when a Union soldier is presumed dead, his children are mistakenly sent away on "the orphan train." This is a classic wild-west story of people uniting for the greater good, and children forced to grow up quickly. A former Pow teams up with a troop of Native American sharpshooters and a freed slave as they try to stop the train. Brian Presley writes & directs & stars in this film. He's joined by Matt McCoy, Brea Bee, Brad Leland, Lew Temple, Cooper North, and Craig Tate. This actually looks like it might be somewhat entertaining,...

George Segal’s final episode of “The Goldbergs” aired Wednesday night, followed by a short tribute to the late actor, who co-starred on the ABC comedy for the last eight seasons.
The 45-second compilation of some of Segal’s memorable scenes from the show was accompanied by the message, “We will miss you, George.” Segal died last month at the age of 87 due to complications from bypass surgery.
Segal was a series regular on “The Goldbergs” since its debut in 2013, playing Albert “Pops” Solomon, the Goldberg family’s eccentric but lovable grandfather. He starred alongside Wendi McLendon-Covey, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, Sam Lerner and Jeff Garlin.
The Sony-produced series previously honored Segal with a card at the end of the March 24 episode, and the show’s producers released a statement at the time remembering the actor as “kind, sweet, beyond talented and funny.”

If you’re a fan of comedy, you know “The Goldbergs,” which is a hit ABC sitcom. The show premiered in 2013, and it was created by Adam F. Goldberg, who shares the same name as the show. The reason for this is that the show is a real-life representation of his own life growing up. He knew that he had gold (pun intended) when he decided to write about the life he lived with his family, and he’s been raking in the good ratings for 7 years now. He’s had a very interesting life, and that life includes being friendly

Based on the same real-life story that inspired the 1995 animated feature “Balto” and Disney’s forthcoming “Togo”, “The Great Alaskan Race” promises at the very least to be a satisfying movie for dog lovers. What else could one expect, as its poster consists of a husky’s face in giant closeup? Unfortunately, it turns out that very least is still too much to ask for from this handsome but hokey drama, which barely seems to notice its canine players amid a focus on one-dimensional humans.
Chief among them is writer-director-producer-star Brian Presley (best known for TV soap “Port Charles”), playing the man who successfully delivered serum to Nome with his dog team during a 1925 diphtheria epidemic — a near-miraculous run still commemorated annually by the Iditarod Trail competition. That triumph over extremely adverse conditions should make for an exciting physical adventure.

Marketing Move
AMC Theatres is launching a new program, AMC Artisan Films, as a programming-marketing effort to put a spotlight on character and narrative driven movies as an alternative to blockbusters.
“Because AMC is the industry’s top choice for blockbuster movies, many consumers don’t realize that we play more elevated and celebrated films than anyone else in North America,” said Elizabeth Frank, executive vice president of worldwide programming. “With the launch of AMC Artisan Films, we aim to expose more movie-goers to specialized films and increase their theatrical success.”
Frank said AMC is seeking earlier runs in platform releases while holding films longer in the theater to give audiences time to learn about them from other customers.

The inaudible whisper has become an indie film convention, most notably seen (and not heard) at the end of Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation," and most recently in one of the final scenes of David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook." In a discussion with the Hollywood Reporter, Russell takes a stab at what he thinks Pat (Bradley Cooper) softly murmurs to his ex-wife Nikki (Brea Bee) after seeing her at the dance competition in which he and Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) compete. Russell says: "The intention of it is to say that the best way you can say goodbye to somebody is lovingly, from the best place of yourself, which doesn’t happen often enough in this world. I think very often, when it’s time to say goodbye to each other, we choose to agitate or turn it into something else, because goodbyes can be too emotional. But no,...

Self-help and improvement are never easy tasks. They take hard work, persistence, and dedication from the individual. That person also needs the support of family, friends, and nurturing care to give him or her whatever they need to make that positive change. That’s what makes the recovery of Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper, The Hangover) in Silver Linings Playbook all the more unlikely.
Pat was a former teacher, arrested for assaulting a colleague who was sleeping with his wife. He snapped when he stumbled in on the heinous act, triggering his bi-polar disorder, which he didn’t know he had until he was arrested and diagnosed. We are introduced to Pat, released from the mental health facility with a new outlook of positivity, redemption, reconciliation and a new mantra, “Excelsior” as a calming, coping device for any future outbursts to remind him that everything will be okay. Editor’s Note: Allison’s spot-on review originally ran way back at the beginning of the month, but the film is opening wide today so we’re sharing it once again. Sharing is good. Maybe we are all a bit crazy – whether we are lying to ourselves about the relationships we are in or why we believe holding a handkerchief or having the remote at a certain angle will determine the outcome of a game. But unlike most of us, Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper), has been deemed mentally unstable by both the court and his doctors at the mental institution we find him in at the start of Silver Linings Playbook. Pat may seem fairly sane, albeit unflinchingly honest, but as we learn why he ended up in such a facility and watch him unravel at the sound of a certain song, it becomes clear that Pat is dealing with issues he may not be able to...

★★★☆☆ Academy Award nominee David O. Russell follows up his bruising boxing drama The Fighter (2010) with Silver Linings Playbook (2012), a similarly bittersweet tale of mental illness and obsession starring The Hangover franchise's Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Resident Philadelphian Pat Solitano (Cooper) has lost it all - including, it would seem, his mind. After catching his wife Nikki (Brea Bee) cheating on him in the shower and losing his job as a history teacher, Pat is sectioned in a public institution which he is released from eight months later, into the custody of his doting parents (Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver).

There are those rare moments when mental illness comes in handy, and for Pat (Bradley Cooper), meeting Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) is one of those moments. Pat’s screwed up, as is Tiffany, and although Tiffany wants Pat bad, Pat is pining for his wife, Nikki (Brea Bee), who is directly responsible for Pat’s breakdown. Pat’s just done a stint in the looney bin, and is living with his parents, Delores (Jacki Weaver), and Pat, Sr. (Robert De Niro). He is looking for those “silver linings” and anything that will reunite him with his wife. Tiffany plays along, but has other plans, and with some intriguing drama and much hilarity, she “might” find her bipolar soul mate.

Whether it’s Buffy on network TV, True Blood on HBO or a slew of more offerings on the web (I Heart Vampires and Vampire Killers just off the top of my head), filmmakers continue to feel if you carve out your own blood-sucking niche, fans will come (and, maybe, the money will follow). But with no shortage of mythological, quasi-evil, sanguine-centric plot lines, the question for viewers becomes: how intriguing is your spin on the Dracula story? For Bleeder, the new vampire series out of Philadelphia, it’s just intriguing enough. Co-written, produced and directed by Wade Balance and co-written, produced and starring Mark Kochanowicz, Bleeder brings a new twist to the genre. Alex is a hemophiliac – that is, a guy who frequently hemorrhages – who is lucky enough to encounter Charlotte (Brea Bee), a reluctant vampire who take pity on him as he weakens from blood loss in his alley alcove.
