As soon as Saw X, the tenth entry in the Saw franchise (you can read our review Here), was released last September, franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules were already talking about the potential of a Saw XI. The official announcement came in December, along with a release date: September 27th. But over the last few months, the filmmakers have come to realize they need some extra time to make Saw XI something special, so the release has been pushed back a year, to September 26, 2025. So Lionsgate has unveiled a teaser trailer asking fans to play the waiting game, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Lionsgate is shaking up its release slate, with two genre releases affected. While The Crow reboot gets a small delay, don’t expect sequel Saw XI to arrive this Halloween season.
Rupert Sanders’ The Crow is shifting from its June release date and is now set for August 23, 2024, Deadline reports.
Bill Skarsgård leads the cast of The Crow as Eric Draven, with FKA Twigs co-starring. Danny Huston (30 Days of Night) also stars, alongside Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King).
In the new movie, “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

The horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein (you can read our review Here), which came to us from director Zelda Williams (making her feature directorial debut) and screenwriter Diablo Cody, just reached theatres on February 9th… and it hasn’t exactly been a smash, drawing just $9 million at the domestic box office so far. Maybe now it will be able to draw in more viewers, as they’re going to have the chance to watch the movie in the comfort of their own homes: Universal Pictures has already given Lisa Frankenstein a digital release, and it’s available to watch through sites like Amazon.
Set in 1989, Lisa Frankenstein has the following synopsis: A coming of Rage love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the...

Lionsgate is bringing Saw back to cinemas again this September, as Kevin Greutert signs up as director on Saw XI. More here.
The return of Saw to the big screen (again) last autumn went really rather well, with Saw X earning the best reviews the saga has seen in recent times (and that includes the sort-of spin-off Spiral).
Behind the camera for Saw X was director Kevin Greutert, who had helmed two of the earlier films. And now, the folks over at Bloody Disgusting are reporting that he’s now been confirmed as the director of the upcoming Saw XI.
It’s not the world’s biggest surprise, though, given that Kevin Greutert was playing nicely coy when quizzed about a further chapter during press for the last film, telling us that he’d like to one. Still, it seems confirmed now.

The "Saw" films will continue to slice and dice their way into theaters until morale improves -- or until audiences finally get tired of the über-successful horror franchise. If the universal acclaim and strong box office performance of "Saw X" proved anything, however, it's that a return to its roots was sorely needed. As the eleventh film in the series is scheduled to release later this year, that theme is about to continue in a big way.
We haven't been told much about the cast or even the plot of "Saw XI" since the sequel was first announced back in December of last year, though it's been easy to imagine the creative team picking up on the ongoing prequel storyline almost exactly where they last left off. While the involvement of the man, myth, and legend Tobin Bell remains unclear, we now know that at least one other franchise veteran...

The long-running Saw franchise is headed back to the big screen this Halloween season, with the box office success of last year’s Saw X paving the way for this year’s Saw XI.
Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report this week that Saw X director Kevin Greutert will return to direct the upcoming Saw XI! In addition to Saw X, Greutert directed both Saw VI in 2009 and later Saw: The Final Chapter in 2010, along with the horror movies Jessabelle in 2014 and Jackals more recently in 2017. He also edited Saw I through V and Jigsaw.
This has to be considered very good news for Saw fans, as most felt that Saw X was a much-needed course direction for the franchise, finally bringing it back to the highs of the past. I was already sold on checking out the horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein, since it marks the feature directorial debut of Zelda Williams and was scripted by Diablo Cody, but now a clip from the film has arrived online to give me an even more positive outlook on the movie. The clip can be seen in the embed above, and what makes me so happy about it is the fact that the 1985 classic Day of the Dead, one of my favorite movies from one of my favorite filmmakers (George A. Romero) is quickly glimpsed on a television in this scene. A comedic creature chase follows, but it’s the glimpse of Day of the Dead that I really love about the clip.

‘Saw XI’ – Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger Not Returning to Write Next Year’s Eleventh Installment
The Saw franchise has been known to retain filmmaking teams from movie to movie, with writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger penning the scripts for Jigsaw, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, and this year’s Saw X. We’ve learned this week, however, that Stolberg and Goldfinger will not be returning for Saw XI, which was officially announced just last night.
Taking to Twitter in the wake of the Saw XI release date reveal from Lionsgate last night – the games return to theaters on September 27, 2024 – Stolberg himself spilled the beans.
Josh Stolberg tweets, “Pete [Goldfinger] and I are sitting this chapter out. Very excited to see this one as a fan of the franchise. I think people will be pleased with the team.”
No word yet on who will be writing or directing Saw XI. Stay tuned for more.

Are you ready to play another game? The "Saw" canon isn't exactly the easiest challenge for casual fans to make sense of -- Tobin Bell's John Kramer was infamously killed off way back in "Saw III," for instance, despite almost every movie since twisting itself into knots in order to include him in the action anyway -- but the series has gone on to become one of the longest-running (and most consistently-performing) horror franchises ever anyway. That streak was all but assured of continuing after the latest installment, "Saw X," earned the best reviews out of any of the movies and went on to slash its way to the top of the box office. America and, indeed, the entire world are demanding more Billy the Puppet and the maniacal Jigsaw games ... and Lionsgate has been listening.

Jigsaw will be back inflict pain once more in Saw XI, and the new film is arriving in 2024: more details here.
It is rare for any franchise to reach ten films. It is even rarer for the tenth film to receive some of the best reviews of the series.
Such was the case with Saw X, the film that put Tobin Bell front and centre one again as malicious vigilante John Kramer/Jigsaw.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the impressive box office returns of Saw X, Lionsgate has confirmed that it is pressing ahead with Saw XI.
You won’t have to wait long to see it either, as the official Saw social media accounts posted an image stating the sequel would be with us in just over nine months time, on the 27th September 2024.

At long last, Jigsaw returned in Saw X. Set between the events of Saw and Saw II, the tenth installment is a gruesome fan-pleaser led by a franchise-best performance from Tobin Bell as John Kramer.
Along with a six-part making-of documentary and more, the film’s home video release features an audio commentary by director-editor Kevin Greutert, cinematographer Nick Matthews, and production designer Anthony Stabley.
Here are nine things I learned from the Saw X commentary…
1. Kevin Greutert was unsure about the concept until he read the script.
Greutert — who edited six previous Saw films and directed Saw VI and Saw 3D — is one of the few Saw creatives to return for Saw X, but he wasn’t sold on the initial concept.

Though it hasn't quite reached the dizzying naming heights of the "Fast & Furious" franchise, "Saw" has still managed to get creative with its titles in recent years. After going with a conventional roman numeral numbering system for its first six installments, the series got a little silly with "Saw 3D," technically the franchise's seventh installment. Next up was 2017's "Jigsaw," followed by the polarizing spin-off film "Spiral: From The Book of Saw." Though that Chris Rock-led film garnered mixed reviews, it also freed up the franchise to start trying altogether new things -- which it did this year with its tenth installment, a "Saw II" prequel with a strong visual style and a much-praised John Kramer reappearance.
After three fun movie titles, though, the latest installment was simply titled "Saw X." It's a boring title, but apparently it wasn't always the plan. A Blu-Ray special feature for the...

If you are a fan of horror films, you are in for a treat this October. Prime Video India has announced that it will stream two of the most anticipated horror films of the year: The Exorcist: Believer and Saw X. The Exorcist: Believer
The Exorcist: Believer is the sixth installment in The Exorcist franchise, and serves as a sequel to the original 1973 film. It follows a photographer who must confront the nadir of evil when his daughter and her best friend are possessed by a demonic force. Zelda Williams is making her feature directorial debut with the horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein, working from a screenplay written by Diablo Cody. Today, Focus Features unveiled a short promo video to announce that Lisa Frankenstein will be reaching theatres on February 9, 2024, just in time for Valentine’s Day. You can watch that promo video at the bottom of this article.
Set in 1989, the film has the following synopsis: A coming of Rage love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. The Saw franchise, notorious for its mind-bending traps and twisted morality, is back with Saw X, a semi-prequel that finds its place snugly between the first and second films. Directed by Kevin Greutert and crafted by writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, this chapter promises a fresh, albeit macabre, spin on the series.
We’re thrown back into the twisted world of John Kramer, and who better to lead us than the brilliant Tobin Bell? His return is a real treat, a silver lining to the franchise that had to say goodbye to him way too soon. Bell isn’t just back; he’s delving deeper, giving us more layers to John Kramer than we’ve seen before. Saw X takes a slightly more cinematic route, allowing us a peek behind the curtain. Instead of just the menacing voice behind a tape recorder and the architect of deadly traps, we...

‘Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie’ Barking Louder Than ‘Saw X’ and ‘The Creator’ For Easy Box Office Win
After the success of Barbenheimer, audiences will now reveal if they have an appetite for what’s being dubbed “Saw Patrol” this weekend as Paramount’s kid-friendly Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie goes up against Lionsgate’s horror feature Saw X.
Both movies did respectable business on Friday. Saw X won the day with an estimated $8 million — including $2 million in Thursday night grosses — although Paw Patrol will take the lead sometime on Saturday for a weekend opening in the $22.5 million range, ahead of 2021’s Paw Patrol: The Movie, which came out during the tough days of the pandemic and debuted to $13.1 million.
While the Internet bestowed Saw and Paw Patrol with the memable moniker Saw Patrol (describing the unlikely idea of doing a double feature), the weekend’s biggest swing is The Creator, the $80 million sci-fi feature from Rogue One director Gareth Edwards. The film brought in $5.6 million on Friday,...

Franchise veterans John “Jigsaw” Kramer (Tobin Bell) and Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) are back in action in the milestone sequel Saw X (our review), playing in theaters now. The sequel blends the old with the new, including relocating the lethal terror to Mexico. Bloody Disgusting spoke with director Kevin Greutert and production designer Anthony Stabley about how the Mexico setting informed the traps and new batch of survivors.
Watch the video interview below, where Stabley reveals what mythology he drew from when creating the production design, and how actor Paulette Hernandez‘s intensity set the bar high for the scenes that followed.

Saw X, the tenth entry in the Saw franchise, is in theatres now. Some fans have already seen it. Some may be settling in for a screening of it as I type this article. But for anyone who wants to watch a clip online today, we’ve got you covered. In the clip embedded at the top of this article, you can see a moment where John “Jigsaw” Kramer (Tobin Bell) and his protégé Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) discuss the games they’re playing this time around.

Franchise veterans John “Jigsaw” Kramer (Tobin Bell) and Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) are back in action in the milestone sequel Saw X (our review). But they’re not the only franchise mainstays that worked to bring the gory sequel to life.
Director Kevin Greutert (Saw VI, Saw 3D), the franchise’s long-term editor since 2004’s Saw, helms the tenth installment from the screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.
Greutert, Bell, and Smith aren’t the only returning franchise vets either; producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules launched the franchise in 2004 alongside James Wan and Leigh Whannell and have been with the franchise the entire way.
With nearly twenty years of franchise lore, history, and experience with Jigsaw and his gnarly traps under their belts, few know Saw quite like Burg and Koules.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with the tenured producers about Saw X and how much input they have on John Kramer’s lethal traps.

For a franchise that’s spanned two decades, ten instalments and several peaks and troughs, it’s refreshing to find the latest entry, Saw X, a surprising highlight.
Set between the first and second films, Saw X reunites us with John Kramer (Tobin Bell), the sick, quiet, maniacal, death-trap constructor who is offered a new kind of experimental cancer treatment. The procedure goes wrong so Kramer sets out to build traps, right wrongs and seek revenge on those who failed him. To reveal more than that would ruin it a little but Saw X does much more than expected.
Once antagonist Kramer is twisted into an antihero, similar to what they did with Stephen Lang’s Blind Man in Don’t Breathe 2. Heightening his plight after being woefully wronged, to help viewers empathise and see his acts as he does: “helping people overcome their inner obstacles to make more positive...

The makers of the “Saw” movies probably thought they were clever when they killed the villain off back in “Saw III.” But over time it’s become clear that, although Jigsaw’s many apprentices worked hard to keep his legacy alive, John Kramer — the raspy-voiced horror icon played by Tobin Bell — was the beating heart of this series, and that heart stopped.
Jigsaw is back in “Saw X,” but he’s also still dead. The film is one long prequel, taking place at an indeterminate time before most of the previous installments. It’s a little confusing to see Kramer drawing up plans for deathtraps that, as we learn later in the movie, he has already invented and used, but it’s a lot less confusing than the timelines of the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh films, which employed a dizzying flashback/flashforward/flashsideways structure that perhaps rivaled only “Last Year at Marienbad...

Directed and edited by Saw veteran Kevin Greutert, this is the tenth film in the popular death-traps-and-gore series, taking place between the events of the first movie and the first sequel. Happily for fans of the long-running franchise, that setting allows the filmmakers to bring back the series’ strongest asset, actor Tobin Bell, and the result is one of the most enjoyable Saw sequels for quite some time.
Bell reprises his role as serial killer and all-around deathtrap genius John Kramer, who travels to Mexico to undergo a controversial treatment that may be able to cure his terminal cancer. However, when he discovers that he has been the victim of a fraudulent scheme, he teams up with his apprentice Amanda (Saw veteran Shawnee Smith...

With an official release date of September 29th, the latest entry in the Saw franchise – titled Saw X, since it happens to be the tenth film in the series – is heading out to theatres right at this moment. As a self-professed Saw-head, I will admit that anytime we get a brand-new Saw movie, I’m happier than Billy riding his bicycle to greet a new victim. Good or bad, I find the films in this franchise to be endlessly entertaining (and rewatchable), with Saw II and Saw VI being amongst my favorites from the series. Well, now there’s a new contender for my favorite Saw movie because Saw X is that damn great. It’s hard to believe that a tenth film in a horror franchise could deliver the goods as well as it does (so to speak), as usually with different series, the longer they go on, the more diminishing the returns are.
But Saw X feels like an absolutely miraculous achievement and was a completely enthralling viewing experience. Directed by Kevin Greutert and co-written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, Saw X brings about...

The tenth entry in any franchise, let alone horror, is a monumental milestone. What began in 2004 with Saw, a twisty thriller that introduced John “Jigsaw” Kramer as a mastermind trap engineer, quickly gave way to an enduring horror franchise where the traps got gnarlier and the timeline increasingly more convoluted once Jigsaw and favorite apprentice Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) were lethally removed from the equation. Both are back in Saw X, a milestone sequel that goes back to the franchise’s roots to a deeply satisfying degree.
Saw X, set between Saw and Saw II, introduces John Kramer as he struggles with his terminal cancer diagnosis. Facing months to live, Kramer finds hope from fellow cancer support group member Henry (Michael Beach), whose radical life-saving procedure points him in the direction of elusive Dr. Cecilia Pederson (Synnøve Macody Lund). Dr. Pederson offers reassurances and a coveted spot in her experimental medical program,...

As John Kramer (Tobin Bell), a.k.a. Jigsaw, emcees another spectacle of savagery, he tells his victims, “This is not retribution. It’s a reawakening.” The statement would seem to suggest that Kevin Greutert’s Saw X is here to reinvent the long-running Saw franchise. If so, that would make it the third or so attempt at such a reengineering.
Darren Lynn Bousman’s Spiral, for one, was probably the closest we got to a quasi-prestige iteration of a Saw film, what with its bluntly ambivalent cop rhetoric and gliding SteadiCam shots. But, for the most part, that film was like any other Saw, even if its queasiness was less in its outright violence and more in the blithe way it used politically loaded imagery: pigs and their guts, literally and metaphorically, spilled all over the place.

Director Kevin Greutert says that with Saw X, their goal was to make a new addition to the franchise that felt like the early Saw movies. Greutert provided a sneak peek behind the scenes at the upcoming tenth film of the popular horror franchise in a two-minute “Legacy” featurette released nine days out from the film’s theatrical debut.
Saw franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules described the September 29, 2023 release as being how they envision Saw II, with the action taking place just weeks after the end of the original Saw. Because of that, it was necessary to replicate the look of the original films down to the grittiness and color palette. “We’re working with a cinematographer here [Nick Matthews] who has just done a fabulous job,” says franchise star Tobin Bell.
Joining Bell in Saw X are Shawnee Smith, Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach, and Renata Vaca.

Lionsgate is clearly very aware of just how popular the Amanda Young character, played by Shawnee Smith, is with fans of the Saw franchise. Although she was killed off in Saw III, she’s back for the new sequel Saw X, since the film’s story takes place between the events of the first film and Saw II – and since she’s back, she’s getting a good amount of attention in the film’s marketing. For example: Rotten Tomatoes just got the first look at a new image from Saw X, and the focus of the image is Smith as Amanda. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Amanda isn’t the only dead character who’s back in a big way for this sequel, as John “Jigsaw” Kramer, played once again by Tobin Bell, is front and center here.

John “Jigsaw” Kramer, played once again by Tobin Bell, is front and center in the upcoming Saw sequel Saw X – which is indeed the tenth installment in the franchise, but takes place between the events of the first movie and Saw II. Director Kevin Greutert, who previously directed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, has said that we’ll be seeing more of Jigsaw in this new movie than in any other Saw movie… and due to its place in the timeline, we’ll also be seeing the return of Shawnee Smith as his protégé Amanda Young. That’s why a new promo posted on the official Saw social media account celebrates the fact that we’ll be seeing the return of Amanda when Saw X reaches theatres on September 29th:

The new film in the Saw franchise – which is going by the title Saw X since it’s the tenth installment – is set to reach theatres on September 29th, and it’s said to be the longest Saw movie yet. Judging by the rating it has just received from the Motion Picture Association, it sounds like it’s going to be delivering plenty of the stuff Saw fans want to see over the course of that extended running time, as it has earned an R rating for sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture, language and some drug use. The frequently used tagline has been “If it’s Halloween, it must be Saw“, but it could just as easily be “If it’s grisly bloody violence and torture, it must be Saw“.
