When Ray Suarez opens his first episode of “Inside Story” for Al Jazeera America on Nov. 11, it’ll be the culmination of his long journalism career, he told TheWrap. “Everything I’ve done for the last 20 years has been leading up to this,” Suarez said. It’ll also be a chance for Suarez to do the kind of work he wasn’t able to do at “PBS NewsHour,” which he left in October after 14 years. Suarez said he wasn’t happy with the lack of opportunities on the show. Also read: Former PBS Journalist Ray Suarez Joins Al Jazeera America “‘NewsHour’ is a one-show operation.

Former PBS NewsHour national correspondent Ray Suarez has joined Al Jazeera America as host of its daily program Inside Story, the network made official this morning. Suarez’s first day is Monday, November 11. Suarez tweeted in October that he was leaving PBS after 14 years — most recently as NewsHour’s chief national correspondent, then told Fox News Latino he felt like he did not have “much of a future with the broadcast” because his contributions to the program had been minimized over the past couple years. Al Jazeera describes Inside Story as a program that “provides analysis, background and context on the top stories of the day” with a panel of guests debating domestic and international topics. “Ray’s extensive television and radio experience will be an incredible asset to Al Jazeera America and Inside Story’s viewers,” Al Jazeera America President Kate O’Brian said in the announcement. PBS this morning named Gwin Ifill and Judy Woodruff — the stars of its most recent presidential election coverage – co-anchors and managing editors of Newshour. It marks the first time two women are co-anchoring the evening newscast on a major Us television network, PBS chief Paula Kerger noted at Summer TV Press Tour 2013, then said she “almost” paused in drawing attention to that factoid, because, “we picked the two people that were strongest.” Ifill and Woodruff will anchor the broadcast together Monday through Thursday; Woodruff will solo Fridays while Ifill hosts Washington Week that night. Newshour has had rotating teams of anchors over the past few years; Ifill and Woodruff were in the rotation. PBS will launch a weekend edition of Newshour next month. Hari Sreenivasan will anchor Newshour Weekend, Saturdays and Sundays beginning September 7; he also will serve as senior correspondent for the weekday newscast, reporting several times a week from Wnet in New York.

Election Day is finally here!
We’ve been bombarded with political ad after political ad (to the point that some of us burst into tears at the mention of President Barack Obama or Gov. Mitt Romney), but one of the most divisive presidential elections in U.S. history is almost over.
After you cast your ballot, you will most likely turn on the TV to watch the returns this evening. With more channels than ever, you will have to make one more choice before the clock strikes midnight: Which election coverage to watch.
Just as you should be informed about your presidential nominees, you should be informed about your election night coverage options. Check out the candidates below:

PBS announced this morning that veteran reporter Jim Lehrer is stepping down from the main anchor spot on PBS's ''NewsHour with Jim Lehrer,'' effective June 6, after 36 years of occupying an anchor's chair on the show. The move is all part of the program's changes, a process that began in December 2009 with the transition from "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" to the PBS Newshour. That move created a multi-anchor team that featured Lehrer plus Senior Correspondents Gwen Ifill, Judy Woodruff, Jeffrey Brown, Ray Suarez and Margaret Warner. That team will continue hosting the broadcast on a rotating basis. Lehrer will remain involved in the editorial direction of the PBS Newshour and the program's producer, MacNeil/Lehrer Productions.
