Stuck in a high-rise flat, six friends are hunted by a shadowy figure in Comedown. The performances and isolated location hold it strong, though, as characters begin to meet their grisly exit and the “monster” takes a prominent role, the cliché setups and forced twists render Comedown a bit of a letdown.
Lloyd (Jacob Anderson) has been in jail for the past three months. He is released and aims to change his gritty, crime ridden London lifestyle in order to take care of his pregnant girlfriend Jemma (Sophie Stuckey). Lloyd’s old crew, lead by the bullying Jason (Adam Deacon), forces him into participation for a job and wild night out in an abandoned multi-level apartment. Once the crew becomes situated in their old stomping grounds, drugs are distributed by Jason to the crew and an unwilling Lloyd. Quickly things turn bloody as a stalking figure begins to hunt everyone in the crew.

It’s already difficult to survive a psychopath hellbent on killing you and your best friends, but to take on such a ferocious threat while high on drugs? That takes serious coordination, focus, and a little bit of luck. This is the sinister scenario that Lloyd must survive in the UK thriller Comedown, coming soon to VOD in the Us from The Orchard and Shock Till You Drop.
Hitting VOD in the Us on August 5th, Comedown will also be available on iTunes, Amazon, and other VOD platforms:
“Directed by Menhaj Huda (Kidulthood), the film finds Anderson playing one of six friends – all of whom have known each other from childhood.
They break into the tower block they lived in as kids, now deserted and condemned, to rig-up a pirate radio station, get high and party. When one of the group goes missing, this group begin to search the dark...

★★☆☆☆ Comedown (2012), the new British indie horror from Kidulthood director Menhaj Huda, starring Jacob Anderson, Sophie Stuckey and Adam Deacon, is reminiscent (one imagines) of a bad trip - minus any of the accompanying highs. A group of teenagers including Lloyd (Anderson) and his pregnant girlfriend Jemma (Stuckey) decide to break into the block of flats in which they used to live but that now lie derelict, in order to help set up a pirate radio station and have a little 'fun' in the process. However, there is someone else prowling the neon lit corridors of the tower block - someone intent on cutting the kid's party dead, permanently.

Fresh out of prison and back on the streets of London, Lloyd is determined to stay on the straight and narrow for the sake of his girlfriend, Jemma, and unborn child. However, the lure of some fast cash proves too much to resist, so Lloyd and five childhood friends take on the seemingly easy job of rigging up a pirate radio station aerial at the top of a deserted tower block. Reaching the top and settling down, much to the disappointment of Lloyd, it is clear his friends want a party. Things soon get out of control and when pregnant Jemma goes missing, the group starts to fear that they are not alone. Searching the dark interiors of the abandoned building, they are slowly picked off one by one,...

The young cast includes Jessica Barden, Jacob Anderson, Sophie Stuckey, Duane Henry, Calum MacNab and Adam Deacon as six tearaway teenagers who break into an abandoned, condemned tower block to make mischief and party.
Mercy Point, a high-rise tower block conceived and built in the sixties, condemned in the nineties. Abandoned by all, it is now home to a brooding malevolence, and what resides within its empty floors is truly terrifying.
Lloyd (Jacob Anderson) a young man in his early 20′s, is facing the reality of fatherhood, determined to rise above the pervading knife culture and bleak environment he calls home. He’s back after time away in jail, reunited with the crew he left behind: Gary (Calum MacNab) – pyromaniac joker of the pack, Jason (Adam Deacon) – Lloyd’s Alpha male rival, Col (Duane Henry)– Jason...

The Woman in Black is a return to period horror for Hammer Studios. It is based on a 1983 novel written by Susan Hill, which was later adapted into a stage play, as well as a successful television movie in 1989. The play is still running at the Fortune Theater in London's West End, but I can't say this current version will enjoy such success. While it has some terrific moments, most occur in the second half of the film, sandwiched between an annoying first half and a misguided ending.
The film takes place in England during the early 1900s, established when the film opens on three young girls playing with dolls and a tea set in their bedroom. But soon, something distracts the girls from...

Chicago – The most important element to the opening of “The Woman in Black” is the Hammer Films logo that caused the legendary Roger Ebert to applaud when it appeared in the screening room here in Chicago. This is a Hammer Film through and through complete with unbelievable character action, loud sound effects, extreme shock scares, and other B-movie manipulations. It fits snugly in the filmography of the studio that revived Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Mummy for a new generation. And yet it is also surprisingly effective for modern audiences. There are some overdone elements and the script could have been a bit stronger, but the movie works on its own terms, sending a chill up your spine in effective ways.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Hammer Films have become known more for camp due to titles like “Taste the Blood of Dracula,” “Blood From the Mummy’s Tomb,” and “Creatures the World Forgot,” but...

Daniel Radcliffe stole the spotlight as he attended the premiere of "The Woman in Black" on January 24 in London, England. The Arthur Kipps depicter on the horror film oozed charm in a black double-breasted suit. To match his formal look, he neatly slicked back his hair.
Radcliffe was all smiles and took time to sign autographs for the crowd in the event held at the Royal Festival Hall. The 22-year-old British actor was joined by his co-star Liz White, who opted for an all-black ensemble and completed her look with a sparkling clutch bag.
Also stealing the attention were actors Roxanne Pallett and Jonathan Ross. The former hit the red carpet in a black strapless dress and a pair of open-toe heels, while the latter who tagged along with his wife Jane Goldman looked sharp in a navy suit.
The other cast members such as Janet McTeer and Sophie Stuckey unfortunately didn't attend the premiere.

In the effectively creepy "Close Your Eyes", "ER" regular Goran Visnjic retains his medical license as a psychic hypnotherapist who's recruited by British police to uncover the identity of a traumatized young girl's twisted kidnapper.
Based on the novel "Doctor Sleep" by Madison Smartt Bell, the atmospheric psychological thriller weaves a compelling web thanks to dense, stylized direction by Nick Willing and a smartly assembled cast.
The First Look release, shot in 2001, is certainly worth a look, though it's done no favors by a title that can be too easily confused with Alejandro Amenabar's "Open Your Eyes", not to mention "Close My Eyes", a 1991 Alan Rickman-Clive Owen film.
In his first lead feature role,
Visnjic carries a soft-spoken authority as Dr. Michael Strother, who has relocated to London with his very pregnant wife (Miranda Otto) and daughter Lauren Gabrielle Volpert) after leaving behind some unpleasant business back home in America.
Hoping to start again with a small practice helping patients to quit smoking, he's sidetracked by a detective (dark-eyed Shirley Henderson) who has been working on the case of a girl (Sophie Stuckey) rendered speechless after being kidnapped by a presumed ritual killer.
The pair embark on a rather unorthodox procedural that leads them down an eerie path filled with spooky old churches and the liturgies of 16th century religious fanatics.
Director Willing, who also adapted the script with William Brookfield, knows a thing or two about mood-setting, having helmed the lavish NBC miniseries "Alice in Wonderland" and "Jason and the Argonauts".
Here, he allows the intrigue to unfold against a bleak contemporary London backdrop that appears to be in a constant state of transition, from the dusty construction sites that surround Strother's working environment to those imposing houses of worship that have been converted to everything from theaters to luxury apartment complexes.
Given the Gothic window dressing, all Vijsnic, Henderson and company (also including Paddy Considine, Fiona Shaw and Corin Redgrave) are required to do is to act naturally, and they admirably resist the temptation to nibble on all that tasty scenery.
