Netflix has acquired the Oscar-nominated documentary feature “To Kill a Tiger.”
The film, about a father’s pursuit of justice in rural India, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022 and was awarded best documentary at the 2023 Palm Springs International Film Festival. “To Kill a Tiger” was, up until now, the only film this year to be nominated for the best feature doc Oscar without distribution.
Directed and written by New Delhi-born director Nisha Pahuja (“The World Before Her”), the 127-minute film charts the emotional journey of Ranjit, a farmer in Jharkhand, who forces a social reckoning after his 13-year-old daughter is the victim of a gang rape.
Variety‘s film critic Siddhant Adlakha wrote in his “To Kill a Tiger” review that the docu “is a powerful and risky example of the vitality of modern nonfiction filmed in South Asia. It joins recent films like “All That Breathes,...

Known for his remarkable performances in acclaimed films like Slumdog Millionaire and Lion, Dev Patel has solidified his status as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors. However, even amidst his impressive body of work, Patel has encountered his share of setbacks and disappointments, and the most noticeable among them is M. Night Shyamalan’s 2010 film Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Lionsgate has acquired domestic rights to the Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James and Himesh Patel comedy “Greedy People.”
The film explores what happens when the eccentric residents of a small, picturesque island town are faced with a sensational murder and the discovery of $1 million next to the body. This sparks a series of increasingly bad decisions that do a number on the peace and tranquility of the community.
“’Greedy People’ is a hugely entertaining crime thriller in every way,” said Allison Lynch, Lionsgate’s director of acquisitions and co-productions. “Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James, and Himesh Patel lead an incredible cast through twists and turns that range from the hilarious to the horrific – and the movie always keeps you guessing.”
The film’s starry ensemble also features Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”), Tim Blake Nelson (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”), Jim Gaffigan (“Chappaquiddick”) and Simon Rex (“Red Rocket”).

A couple weeks ago, Universal unveiled a trailer for the Dev Patel-directed, Jordan Peele-produced action film Monkey Man, which is set to reach theatres on April 5th. You can check that trailer out in the embed above, and as JoBlo’s own Steve Seigh described it, it’s “a tour-de-force of hand-to-hand combat, Jackie Chan-like environmental manipulation, and visuals that pop with color, blood, and broken bones!” Today, the Motion Picture Association ratings board announced that they have given Monkey Man an R rating… and this announcement comes about four months after the previous time they gave the film an R rating.
The other time the MPA gave Monkey Man an R was on October 25th. At that time, the film was branded with an R for “strong bloody violence throughout, rape, language throughout, sexual content/nudity and drug use”. Today, they revealed that a new cut...

Contrary to what children of the '90s might assume, "Monkey Man" is not a feature-length film about the "mystery wrapped in an enigma" that is the Hillwood vigilante Monkeyman from "Hey Arnold," as awesome as that sounds. It's actually something even cooler, believe it or not: an original starring vehicle for Dev Patel, who's only one of the most exciting actors currently doing it. Things had gone radio silent for several years on the news front surrounding the film, only for Universal to nonchalantly drop its trailer online near the end of January, sending the internet into a riotous frenzy at the sight of Patel going full John Wick on a seemingly never-ending parade of goons in Mumbai. (Not to mention by far the best use of a tuk-tuk in a movie this side of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.")
So what even is "Monkey Man," and...

The third episode of Sight Unseen left me thoroughly impressed and eagerly anticipating what twists and turns the series has in store. From the moment Adrian Temple’s body was discovered on the riverbanks, I was hooked. The layers of drama, suspense, and mystery woven throughout the episode kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating each new revelation. What truly struck me was the meticulous unraveling of Adrian Temple’s identity by the detectives. But what really resonated with me was Tess Avery’s personal journey throughout the episode. Her determination to confront her impaired vision head-on and strive for self-reliance was incredibly inspiring. It was heartening to see her gradually come to terms with her condition, accepting it as a part of who she is rather than something to be hidden or ashamed of. I particularly admired how Tess embraced the support of her colleagues, especially Jake,...

Jake Gyllenhaal is taking a long-awaited stab at action superstardom with his upcoming Prime Video remake of Road House hitting the streamer on March 21st (although it should really be going to theaters). Dev Patel also is making a promising attempt at the genre with his amazing looking Monkey Man hitting theaters in April. Not too long ago, we wrote a piece of JoBlo that asked who the next big action icons might be, and indeed, some fresh blood being worked into the genre is long overdue. Gyllenhaal and Patel both seem like great new additions to the canon, but who else could make it in the genre?
Here are a few stars we think have what it takes to be action heroes:
Zac Efron:
I would have thought you were nuts if you had told me a decade ago that Zac Efron would become an Arnold Schwarzenegger-style muscleman as he got older.

Upon delving into the second episode of Sight Unseen‘s debut season, I found myself grappling with a sense of subdued satisfaction. The initial thrill that gripped me in the first episode was missing here. Instead, the narrative delved into a seemingly straightforward investigation of Charles Adams’ murder, connected to a familial feud where Detective Tess adeptly untangled the web surrounding Hannah’s hit-and-run. Detective Tess, though initially hesitant to rejoin the force, got back in the game with a little nudge from Sunny Patel from the EyesUp app. However, the journey lacked gripping intensity, and the whole story lacked that edge-of-your-seat excitement. No cool fights, no crazy drama—just a run-of-the-mill detective gig. Even though the revelations were interesting, they just didn’t pack the same punch. I was waiting for that heart-pounding moment, you know? Instead, it was more like a detective snoozefest, opting for a simpler, more mediocre detective investigation.

Did you know Dev Patel has had a black belt since he was 16 years old? You probably will now after watching the first trailer for Monkey Man, a new gritty action spectacle which also happens to mark The Green Knight star’s directorial debut.
Indeed, the British born actor has enjoyed a respected career since his teenage years, beginning with the one-two punch of the TV series Skins in 2007 and the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire the year afterward. Both were impressive debuts that helped paved the way to an eclectic career which has included roles in movies like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Hotel Mumbai, The Personal History of David Copperfield, and Lion, the last of which earned Patel an Oscar nomination.

Having yet to find a superhero movie role to his liking, it appears Dev Patel has borrowed a page from Thanos' book and said, "Fine. I'll do it myself." The "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Green Knight" actor is now starring in the upcoming "Monkey Man," an action movie that also doubles as his feature directing debut. In an equally exciting turn, the film was initially set to stream as a Netflix original but has since been acquired by Universal for a full-blown theatrical run.
And judging by the first trailer, there's a very good reason for that. "Monkey Man," which has literally been described by industry insiders as "'John Wick' in Mumbai" (via Deadline), casts Patel as Kid, an enigmatic young man who, per the film's synopsis, "ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody...

Longtime “The Walking Dead” executive producer/director and “Creepshow” showrunner Greg Nicotero has a new genre action series in the works with “Swan Song,” based on Robert McCammon‘s bestselling post-apocalyptic novel. Deadline reports that Nicotero is on board to executive produce and direct the pilot episode.

The much-discussed MCU project ‘Thunderbolts’ has been a hot topic lately. In September, Kevin Feige unveiled the return of David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko, reprising their respective roles in the film. Yelena Belova was also confirmed to join the Thunderbolts team.
The casting for the upcoming movie has generated significant buzz. Initially, Steven Yeun was set to play Sentry, but the choice was met with fan skepticism due to disparities between Yeun’s appearance and the comics-accurate depiction of Sentry. Yeun eventually withdrew, citing scheduling conflicts post-SAG-AFTRA strike resolution, leading the studio to search for a new Bob Reynolds. Recent reports suggest Austin Abrams has been offered the role, and amid the leaked news, Dev Patel’s name surfaced. Rumors indicate Patel declined the role of Sentry.

If there’s one upcoming MCU project that has been talked about in recent times, it’s ‘Thunderbolts.’ In September Kevin Feige announced that David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko would be reprising their roles as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Ava Starr/Ghost, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, respectively, in the film. He also confirmed that Yelena Belova would be a part of the Thunderbolts team in the film.
Now, the cast of the upcoming movie was the most talked-about aspect of the movie. Initially, Steven Yeun was cast to play Sentry in the movie, and the confirmation followed soon. This article contains some Good Grief spoilers.
For the entirety of Good Grief, I couldn’t look away from Dan Levy’s sweater: that excellent cable-knit style popularized in recent films like Knives Out, yet here in a lovely dove gray unlike the usual preppy cream. It was also radically different from the black-and-white jumpers he modeled as David Rose in the dramedy Schitt’s Creek, establishing that queer character’s distinctive fashion sense in a uniform that would recur even with his emotional development. Yet it feels like a costuming through-line to Levy’s next memorable character, widower Marcus, in his feature debut as a writer-director.
Here the sweater signifies the very human desperation to hold on to something of the past, even when it brings us pain. As Marc learns through his own figurative unraveling after a year of grief, a memento like that doesn’t have to be...

Schitt’s Creek co-creator, Dan Levy, brings us an authentic tale of complicated love, gut-wrenching loss and anguished healing in his directorial debut, Good Grief – currently streaming on Netflix. Serving as writer, director, producer and lead actor in the comedy-drama, Good Grief serves as a reminder of the well-rounded talents of Levy himself, above all else. Yet, the film arguably leaves viewers wanting more – and not in the way Levy may have intended.
Good Grief sees Dan Levy play the role of Marc Dreyfus; a married painter turned children’s book illustrator struggling to deal with the losses of his husband and mother. The film follows Marc’s grief alongside his ragtag best friends, Thomas (Himesh Patel) and Sophie (Ruth Negga), each with their own problems in love. New Delhi, Aug 21 (Ians) Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from India’s 17-member squad for the upcoming 50-over Asia Cup came as a surprise to many. With India set to play their Asia Cup matches in Sri Lanka, many expected that with pitches favouring spinners, they could pick four spinners.
But when the squad was announced in a press conference on Monday, Chahal’s name was missing, with India’s bowling composition being three spinners in Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja, apart from six fast-bowling options. Asked about Chahal’s exclusion, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said it was difficult to have two wrist-spinners in the team, with Kuldeep being ahead of him.
“He is another terrific performer for India. But sometimes it is the balance of the team or the team combination. Axar (Patel) has done really well, and he can bat as well. Kuldeep (Yadav) has had a fantastic run.

Zee Studios blockbuster “Gadar 2,” headlined by Sunny Deol, could get a third part and a spinoff, provided the story is right.
The film is already amongst the highest Indian grossers of the year with $45 million globally in just seven days of release. Written by Shaktimaan Talwar and directed by Anil Sharma, “Gadar 2” is a sequel to 2001 smash hit “Gadar,” which was set after the partition of the subcontinent into India and Pakistan in the 1947-54 period. It revolved around the adventures of Tara Singh (Deol) and Sakeena (Ameesha Patel) and there was plenty of action set in Pakistan. “Gadar 2” picks up the action in 1971 against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan war and features their son Charanjeet (Utkarsh Sharma).

Ontario, Aug 19 (Ians) The United States of America (USA) have booked their place in the 2024 U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup with an impressive victory over Canada in a rain-affected winner-takes-all matchup in the Americas Qualifiers.
With the win, the USA have sealed the 16th and final qualification spot at next year’s U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. At the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City, Ontario, USA and Canada knew that a win for either of them would see them book their tickets for the tournament in Sri Lanka in January 2024.
Canada led the standings before Friday’s play, enjoying an unbeaten campaign which involved a close-fought victory over the same opposition earlier in the week, but the seven-wicket triumph meant that the USA advanced by virtue of a higher net run rate.

Mindy Kaling and Dev Patel have signed on to executive produce the documentary “To Kill a Tiger,” a gripping story about a father’s pursuit of justice in rural India.
Directed and written by Nisha Pahuja (“The World Before Her”), the film charts the emotional journey of Ranjit, a farmer in Jharkhand, who forces a social reckoning after his 13-year-old daughter is the victim of a gang rape.
“Gender equity and justice within India have been central to my work over the past decade,” said Pahuja. “With ‘To Kill a Tiger,’ I encountered a story that simply had to be told because of the bravery, honesty, and resilience of the family at the heart of it. I’m grateful for Mindy and Dev’s belief in this film and its capacity to empower and serve as a catalyst for change, while building on the work of many activists and organizations.
