At the launch of the BBC’s Dracula, airing this New Year, here’s what its cast and creators shared about their new 3-part drama…
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
It won’t all be tinsel and Aled Jones on TV this festive season. To balance out the sweetness, BBC One has prepared us a dread delight in the form of a new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. It comes from Sherlock creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, who’ve turned their attention from the most-filmed fictional character of all time to the second most-filmed fictional character of all time. What kind of adaptation is it? One that’s both funny and horrifying, paying homage to what’s gone before while delivering a swaggeringly confident new take on the source material – which is more varied than one might think, as Moffat pointed out at the launch.

It’s a whole new era for “Doctor Who,” and the show’s panel at Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday reflected the changing of the guard, beginning with new showrunner Chris Chibnall (“Broadchurch”) and executive producer Matt Strevens. Naturally, the crowd in Hall H was on hand to see the new Time Lord herself, Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor, and her new companions Mandip Gill, who plays Yasmin, and Tosin Cole as Ryan. Bradley Walsh, who plays the third companion, Graham, was not present, but he did pre-tape a video that showed off his delightfully goofy personality.
To mark the occasion of the very first female Doctor, some fans — lacking their own personal Tardis — resorted to camping out for the line for the Hall H panel as early as Monday. Several were also already dressed in a rainbow-striped shirt, suspenders, highwater pants, and hooded coat: the new costume for the 13th Doctor.

We’ve scoured Sherlock’s The Final Problem for tiny details and references to other stories, and here’s what we found…
Warning: contains spoilers.
See related Travelers: why you should watch Netflix's new time travel show Travelers: first trailer for Netflix time travel series
With the help of the pause button and a pot of strong coffee, we’ve picked through Sherlock’s series four finale The Final Problem to seek out the nerdy references and painstakingly added background details. (You can find the same for the previous episodes here and here.)
Here goes…
1. Starting with the obvious, The Final Problem is of course the title of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1893 short story in which Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty appear to tumble to their deaths in the Reichenbach Falls. Andrew Scott’s Moriarty references the title several times in series two finale The Reichenbach Fall.

We've scoured The Lying Detective for details and noticed a few interesting titbits. Spoilers ahead...
Once again, we’ve clued for looks in the latest Sherlock episode The Lying Detective and noticed some fun details and references to the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories. Here goes…
See related CHiPs heading to the movies, Lethal Weapon influences CHiPs movie lands Vincent D'Onofrio as villain
1. The episode’s very first shot of a smoking gun – which we assume is that of Vivian Norbury in The Six Thatchers as remembered by John Watson – is actually the gun shot at John Watson by Eurus Holmes in the episode’s final shot. (The same shot also features in the series four opening credits and is briefly edited in to the scene of Sherlock and ‘Faith’ sitting by the Thames after he’s thrown her gun into the water.)

We’ve scoured the scenes of Sherlock special, The Abominable Bride, to dig out its nerdy details. Spoilers ahead…
Warning: contains spoilers for The Abominable Bride.
If, by the time Sherlock special The Abominable Bride came around, your usually-shining powers of observation had been dulled by New Year’s indulgence, never fear.
We’ve hunted around the episode with (mostly) clear heads and stumbled upon a few fun titbits, from Wilder the Diogenes butler, to set design jokes, nods to Doyle’s original stories, Paget’s illustrations, previous Sherlock episodes and more…
1. This dilated pupil (we'd suggest Cumberbatch’s rather than Freeman’s?) is the first hint-in-hindsight that what’s to follow involves narcotics.
2. Both A Study In Pink and The Abominable Bride start with Watson waking up from a nightmare of his time in an Afghan war, centuries apart.
3. Joining the regular cast’s Victorian counterparts...

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return to Sherlock for the 2015 Special. Here's a round-up of the Special news and rumours so far...
Latest news
Filming on the 2015 Sherlock Special kicked off in Bristol on Monday the 5th of January. The Victorian vaulted cellars of music venue Colstan Hall are reported to be providing one backdrop for the episode.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were both snapped by trusty #setlock fans wearing the same period costume as in the preview image released by the BBC in November (see above).
Underneath that handsome top hat, Cumberbatch is sporting a shiny slicked-back hair do that, as does his costume, bears a strong resemblance to that worn by Jeremy Brett in the 80s-90s Granada Television Holmes series. Martin Freeman was also photographed in his David Burke-as-Watson-style brown suit and ‘tache (which, seeing how much the actor reputedly didn’t enjoy wearing his...

Review Louisa Mellor 12 Jan 2014 - 22:00
Sherlock’s series 3 finale is a surprise-packed, cleverly written story with a terrific villain. Here’s our spoiler-filled review…
This review contains major spoilers. Our spoiler-free review is here.
3.3 His Last Vow
Let’s divvy up the winnings then, who had ‘rogue Secret Service assassin living under an assumed identity’ in the Mary Morstan sweepstakes?
Wrapping His Last Vow around the newly arrived Mrs Watson, taking her from ally to foe and back again, was a satisfying and thrilling end to Sherlock’s third series. Forget delaying gratification, this was revelation after twist after revelation after twist (with helicopters, shootings, and Bond villains to boot). Anyone wondering where the plot and jeopardy had gone in the previous two episodes now has their answer: it was all here, waiting to make a big showbiz entrance.
What worked so well about the Mary revelation is that it changed everything and nothing.

Spoiler warning: best avoided if you haven’t seen The Empty Hearse.
After the posh BFI screening of The Empty Hearse in December, writer Caitlin Moran chaired a Q&A with the cast and creators. Mark Gatiss, who wrote the episode, was in attendance with Steven Moffat, Executive Producer Sue Vertue, director Jeremy Lovering, and actors Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch. We’ve trimmed a few of the gags, and the four giggly minutes or so spent wading through an online fan-fic, but the rest is mostly intact. It all began with a scream…
