The excitement is building for ‘Halo‘ season 2, and the new trailer from Paramount Plus has just upped the ante. Set to premiere on February 8th on Paramount Plus, the upcoming season promises to dive deep into the Halo universe, focusing on the critical planet Reach.
In this trailer, we’re immediately thrown into the thick of things. It opens with a voiceover, possibly from Makee (played by Charlie Murphy), who’s become a key figure in the series as Master Chief’s girlfriend. Her words are chilling, hinting at a dark future for Reach. She declares her intention to be ‘the instrument of their extinction,’ setting a grave tone for the season.
Master Chief, portrayed by Pablo Schreiber, faces overwhelming odds against the Covenant elites. The visuals are striking, showing the stark reality of the conflict. We also see Kai-125, played by Kate Kennedy, watching in despair as Covenant orbital strikes decimate Unsc ships.

"Halo" is a blockbuster video game franchise if there ever was one, so it's surprising that the TV adaptation met such a muted response when it premiered on Paramount+ on March 24, 2022. Despite debuting to apparently historic numbers on Paramount+ (apparently because streaming platforms like Paramount+ don't release their actual numbers before making proclamations such as these), /Film's Jeremy Mathai found "Halo" season 1 to be a slow start, but not devoid of promise. The series was renewed for a season 2 right out of the gate, however, and the first look trailer was just screened for attendees at this year's Ccpx 2023.
Set in the 26th century, "Halo" follows humanity in a war for survival with the Covenant, an alliance of alien conquerors who fanatically worship the extinct Forerunners. Humanity's greatest weapons are the Spartans, cyborg super-soldiers trained from childhood. One of their numbers is the series' protagonist: Master Chief John-117, played by...

"Halo" is a story about a super soldier known as Master Chief (aka John-117) who fights aliens in space over ancient technology. You might think from the description that it's a story you've seen many times before. Certainly, "Halo" wears its influences on its sleeve. But don't underestimate the world of the games, which has thus far been the subject of over 30 novels, several comics, and one season of a live-action television show. Bungie cut their teeth directing the "Marathon" trilogy of narratively ambitious first-person shooters. "Halo" was targeted at a wider audience, but its developers still took the time to flesh out the game's setting. Rather than the heavy metal mishmash of "Doom" and its ilk, this would be a world of alien religious sects, military jargon, and Gregorian chanting.

This Halo review contains spoilers.
Halo Episode 5
At last, Halo has figured out how to combine its emotional core with a bit of action. It’s a pity that core doesn’t shine a bit brighter, but hardcore Halo fans might find this episode worth it for the action alone. Feats from the games, and what looks like some polished-up animation, make the final battle a lot of fun, although some character beats still lack polish.
Most of the secrets are out. After touching the newly-discovered artifact, Master Chief now knows his own story: that Halsey recruited him (and presumably the others) to the Spartan program by kidnapping him and replacing him with another child. The revelation finally jolts him out of the cycle of being manipulated and then comforted by Halsey. John attacks her, and Cortana shuts him down like a computer needing a restart. Conveniently, the Covenant attack.

Animated film Halo: The Fall Of Reach is available to buy today, according to a post on Microsoft’s Xbox Wire blog. If the name sounds familiar, that’s probably because it’s a direct adaptation of the novel of the same name, written Eric Nylund.
Just like its inspiration, Microsoft says the film “explores the dramatic origins and intrigue behind the Spartan program” and “reveals the events that brought Master Chief and Blue Team together.”
See the official announcement below for more:
Starting today, the animated feature, Halo: The Fall of Reach, is available on Blu-ray, DVD and various video on demand (VOD) providers, such as the Halo Channel, Microsoft Movies & TV, iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play, and more.
Adapted from the beloved Eric Nylund novel of the same name, this animated feature explores the dramatic origins and intrigue behind the Spartan program that propelled characters like the Master Chief and Dr.

By now, you've had a chance to check out the two minute-plus trailer for Halo 4 from producer David Fincher and director Tim Miller. Beyond showing off a group of the new Promethean enemy type, the trailer is actually pretty slim on details about the story of Halo 4, serving instead as a refresher on the Master Chief's backstory.
With that in mind, let's take a look at some of the key bits in the trailer and where they fit in the Halo canon. This won't be super-exhaustive, and might bump up against some of the conflicting pieces of fiction that have come out since 2000, but of course, I'm sure you'll let me know if I got anything wrong via Facebook or Twitter.
So let's dive in.

Brian Reed has discussed his new Halo comic book series which ties in with the newly released Xbox 360 video game Halo: Reach. Marvel is to publish three mini-series that will chronicle the legendary fall of the human planet Reach using Eric Nylund's Fall of Reach novel as a basis for the adaptation. "Fall of Reach is very much the origin story, not just for Master Chief, but for the war with the alien race the Covenant," Reed explained to IGN. "The story focuses primarily on John-117, a little boy who would grow up to be Master Chief." Reed would not comment on how the comic book may (more)...

"Halo: Reach" might be coming out next Tuesday, but a mysterious briefcase arrived with the game's logo emblazoned on it today. What incredible mysteries are being held behind the shiny, metal exterior? Maybe we'll never know.
Or maybe I'll just open it.
As you can see, it's nothing terribly shocking. There's the game (standard version), as well as one of the new "Halo: Reach" branded controllers. Worth noting that these controllers, which come packed in the "Halo: Reach" special edition Xbox 360, aren't the new, transforming controllers I was so pumped about the other week. Nope, they're basically identical to the controllers that shipped with the shiny black Xbox 360s, albeit with a silver, Reach-y design.
On top of the game and the controller, Microsoft included a copy of Eric Nylund's novel, "Halo: The Fall of Reach." The very first "Halo" novel, "The Fall of Reach" basically told of the...

Halo fans, are you reading enough comic books these days? Either way, I’ve got good news for you. Marvel and 343 Industries are teaming up to bring Eric Nylund’s Halo: the Fall of Reach to the shelves of your local comic book store this September.
Featuring the talents of comic/games scribe Brian Reed (Secret Invasion, Mercenaries 2: World On Fire) and artist Felix Ruiz (Marvel Boy, Iron Man 2: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Halo: Fall Of Reach – Boot Camp tells the story of the young boy who would one day become Master Chief, and of the secrets of planet Reach. Take a look at Ruiz’s cover for the first issue.
Ruwan Jayatilleke, Marvel Senior Vice President, Development & Planning, Print, Animation and Digital Media, had this to say about the upcoming comic series:
“We’re excited to bring this gripping novel to life in graphic fiction form.

If you’re a Halo fan and literate, odds are you’ve already read Eric Nylund’s Halo: The Fall of Reach. The novel, which first released in October 2001, revealed the origin of the game's mysterious protagonist, Master Chief. Those who enjoy pictures more than words will be happy to know that Brian Reed and Felix Ruiz have put together a 4-issue comic adaptation of the novel called Halo: Fall of Reach – Boot Camp, which Marvel Comics will publish this fall.
“Before he was Master Chief, he was John -- a boy stolen from his parents and conscripted into the Spartan II program on the fortress world of Reach,” reads Marvel's official announcement. “But as the galaxy falls into dark times, one doctor must pay a terrible price to keep humanity from being destroyed.”
It appears Marvel will take the same approach with this that they did with their version...
