Last month, on the night Real Estate released their sixth album, Daniel, they filled a tiny Williamsburg bar with all kinds of Daniel-themed props: name tags with the name “Daniel” on them, pictures of celebrities named Daniel, a full Danny Devito cutout. The album name had started as kind of a joke; they thought it would be funny to give the record a human name, and it just so happened that they’d recorded this new slate of songs in Nashville with producer Daniel Tashian, known for his work with Kacey Musgraves.

On the eve of the debut of her new album, Deeper Well, Kacey Musgraves stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for an interview and performance of her song “The Architect.”
Seated center-stage on a dirt floor surrounded by a lush floral scene, Musgraves delivered the Deeper Well cut alongside her band, singing the hymn-like melody over a bedding of acoustics, banjos, and backing vocals. In a room full of people named Daniel, what will it take to be crowned the ultimate Daniel? In the case of Real Estate, who hosted the album release show for their latest studio album Daniel in Brooklyn, having a single member in the band named Daniel wasn’t necessary. At the show, which was only open to people with some variation of the name — Danny, Danielle, Danimals Yogurt — Real Estate opened and closed their set with their rendition of Elton John’s 1973 single “Daniel.”

“I was seeking some different environmental energy, and Electric Lady has the best mojo. Great ghosts,” she said in a statement.
The accompanying video was directed by Hannah Lux Davis.

Rising country singer Brittney Spencer showcased songs from her 2023 debut album My Stupid Life on CBS Saturday Morning’s latest Saturday Sessions.
For the performance, the Baltimore-born singer delivered “My First Rodeo,” “I Got Time,” and “If You Say So” from her must-hear LP released earlier this month.
“Spencer traverses a blend of muscular pop-rock, textured soul, and anthemic singalong pop, all of it grounded squarely in a genre-agnostic country that conjures Maren Morris’ landmark album Hero,” Rolling Stone said of My Stupid Life.

Like most singers new in town, Brittney Spencer spent the bulk of her first decade in Nashville paying dues. She busked to passersby, sang backup for Carrie Underwood, and carved out a space for provocative songwriting in the city’s Christian worship-music community. Then, in 2020, in the wake of country music’s reckoning with its long history of racial exclusion, Spencer uploaded a viral acoustic cover of the Highwomen’s “Crowded Table.” Since then, she’s opened for Willie Nelson and Megan Thee Stallion, sang at the CMAs, and even...

Indie rockers Real Estate have shared “Haunted World,” the latest offering from their upcoming sixth album Daniel. Stream it below.
Though vocalist Martin Courtney claims that “This haunted world is killing me” in the song, it’s as breezy and ever. With a warm acoustic guitar and a chord change that illuminates the end of each musical phrase, “Haunted World” seems to be at peace with the anxiety Courtney depicts. “There is no rest, there is no sleep/ The day becomes the night,” he sings, referencing the existential toll of everyday life.
Real Estate previewed Daniel last November with lead single “Water Underground.” The album, which is dedicated to producer Daniel Tashian, will be the group’s first LP since 2020’s The Main Thing.
Real Estate have also announced a “Daniel-Only” album release show at Union Pool in New York on February 22nd. Admission is free with a Rsp for anyone who has a “first,...

Brittney Spencer has shared a preview of her forthcoming debut album, My Stupid Life, with a new single called “Night In.”
Produced by frequent collaborator Daniel Tashian — and even featuring subtle background vocals from Spencer’s friend Maren Morris –the bass-laden “Night In” details a homebody’s dream: Turning your phone off, donning sweatpants from high school, and turning on whichever reality show is taking over the lives of you and your friends. Spencer blends rock ‘n’ roll roots with layered choruses of Southern twangs to create the sprawling image of an impromptu night in with the girls: “Ain’t gotta go broke/ To catch a vibe/ Got everything we’ll ever need here on this couch,” she sings. Stream the song below.

Real Estate have announced their upcoming album, Daniel, set for release on February 23rd, 2024 via Domino Recording Co. As a preview, the New Jersey outfit has shared their first single from the album, “Water Underground,” and announced a 2024 North American tour.
Daniel marks Real Estate’s first full-length album since their 2020 release, The Main Thing, and is their sixth studio LP. Recorded with Grammy-winning producer Daniel Tashian, Daniel aims to “connect the uninhibited wonder of Real Estate’s earliest work with the earned perspective of adulthood.” The band reunited in Nashville for the album, sharing a rental space after being separated from each other for the past few years.
As for “Water Underground,” Martin Courtney of Real Estate said that the single is a song about writing songs. “I think ‘Water Underground’ is like the unconscious, the mysterious part of your brain where creativity comes from,” he said in a press release.

When Hank Williams Jr. began his music career in the Sixties, he did little to distance himself from the shadow cast by his monumental father. He released albums with titles like Songs My Father Left Me, sang “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and “Hey Good Lookin’” in the same lonesome style, and appeared onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, the very institution that fired his dad in 1952. The pressure to imitate Hank Williams and fill the void left by his untimely death at 29 was great, and it nearly swallowed him whole.

Renee Zellweger won the Best Actress Oscar for playing Judy Garland in “Judy,” and she just made history by earning a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Pop Album for the soundtrack. That made her the first person since Jennifer Hudson in “Dreamgirls” to receive a Grammy nomination for a film they won an acting Oscar for. But can she win? If she does, she should thank Tony Bennett for not being nominated.
SEEHow to win Grammys in 4 easy steps: This year’s nominations showed us which campaigns worked, and which didn’t
Zellweger could be helped by the fact that the recording academy already loves Judy Garland. In 1962 the legendary entertainer claimed Album of the Year and Best Female Solo Vocal Recording for her comeback concert “Judy at Carnegie Hall.” That was only seven years before her death in 1969 when she was just 47. Then in 1998 she was honored with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.

“Wonder Woman 1984” is finally here after a long and winding road of delays. “The fact that we’re going to share it with everybody during the holidays is the best feeling,” Gal Gadot tells me as she awaits the film’s Christmas Day debut on HBO Max. “I’m so happy.”
And she’d be happy to do a third “WW,” even though she insists nothing official is in the works. “We have no idea,” Gadot says. “You never know. I would love to do another one if the story is great and with Patty [Jenkins] of course. But I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see.” Gadot says a third film would be “nice closure.”
One thing we won’t have to wait for much longer is Zack Snyder’s cut of “Justice League,” which will be released as a four-part series in March on HBO...

Brothers Osborne cook up a funky groove with an evergreen message in their new song “Hatin’ Somebody,” which will appear on their upcoming album Skeletons. The Cma-winning duo’s third studio project, Skeletons will be released October 9th.
Built around sizzling, woozy electric and acoustic slide guitar that recall Sticky Fingers-era Rolling Stones, the swampy “Hatin’ Somebody” was penned by siblings John and Tj Osborne with Casey Beathard. It’s also a statement about bigotry and the struggle to coexist that references a personal transformation the duo’s grandfather underwent.

Brett Eldredge used to start his days posting videos of himself singing from bed just moments after he had woken up — a cutesy series he called “Bedhead Jams.” Now, the 34-year-old singer begins his mornings by meditating.
The meditation sessions can probe some heavy topics. One morning he found himself contemplating the idea of his last day alive. How would he live it? How would he want to feel?

Brett Eldredge gave the live debut of his new single “Gabrielle” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night. An at-home performance, the clip captured the country singer in his backyard in Nashville, playing the song about a busted relationship on acoustic guitar.
It’s a bare-bones rendition, but it highlights the songwriting-focused nature of Eldredge’s upcoming album, Sunday Drive. The studio version of “Gabrielle,” released last Friday, is based around a piano melody, which Eldredge says became a hallmark of the project.

Oh, the humanity. On 4/20, Kacey Musgraves found herself without a single joint to spark up. “We’re completely out of weed. Not even a crumb, not a shred, no dust, not even like a Cdb joint — so, that’s fun,” she lamented during a nonetheless satisfying appearance on Willie Nelson’s “Come and Toke It” 4/20 livestream. Dressed appropriately in green satin pajamas, Musgraves sang two songs off her Grammy-winning Golden Hour, “Lonely Weekend” and “Slow Burn.”

Country artists love to talk about getting out of their comfort zone. But for many who have had a taste of mainstream success, especially on don’t-rock-the-boat country radio, it usually means nothing more revolutionary than changing their shirt.
Beginning back in 2012 with “Don’t Ya,” Brett Eldredge amassed a string of radio hits. Some were solid (“Wanna Be That Song”), others less than (“Lose My Mind,” “Drunk on Your Love”), but they kept him near the top of the charts, on the road with stars like Keith Urban, and profitable.
