Monday’s episode of The Voice — and the end of Season 25’s Playoffs — served up a painful reminder that sometimes it’s not enough to be “cute as a button.” Chance the Rapper and Reba McEntire had to shrink their teams of five contestants apiece to just three each. Along the way, some promising singers were cut (although, to be honest, none that I was as sorry to see go as Anya True and Mafe last week). Which six acts were the last put through to the Lives? Chicago-born Chance the Rapper entered the Grammy history books in 2017 when he became the first person to win for a streaming-only mixtape, “Coloring Book,” in the categories of Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Album. He’s perhaps best known for being an “outstanding role model,” as President Barack Obama once dubbed him. At the age of 29, he became a coach on “The Voice” in Spring 2023 and now he’s back for his second round. Now that the Season 25 blind auditions, battles and knockouts have wrapped up, can Chance prevail for the first time on NBC’s reality TV show?

As The Voice brought to a close its Season 25 Knockouts Monday night, the narrative that was being built around one contestant in particular became crystal clear: “Look here, folks! We’ve got the next Taylor Swift on our hands!” But did the show really? I… was not buying the hype. Were you? Let’s go over the evening’s performances, then we’ll have ourselves a little chitchat in the comments.

“The Voice” battles round for season 25 concluded on Tuesday night with each of the four coaches narrowing their teams of 10 down to seven. Second season coach Chance the Rapper used his one and only “Playoff Pass” on Nadège, sending her straight to the live shows while the remaining five battles winners and the artist he stole move on to the next round. Those six artists representing their team will next take the stage for The Knockouts beginning April 8, but first we want to know who is your favorite artist on Team Chance? Vote in the poll below.
Nadège went head-to-head against Maddi Jane in their battle of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” After Chance chose Maddi as the “winner,” both John Legend and Dan + Shay were interested in stealing her to their teams, but Chance put a stop to that by using his playoff pass to keep...

There are many things that we love about The Voice, right, from the coaches’ goofy interplay to the contestants’ go-for-broke performances. But is any one of them more fun than second-guessing the panel’s decisions? And I dunno about you, but I did quite a bit of that Tuesday evening as the Battles ended. On two out of four face-offs, I disagreed with the coaches. Read on, and we’ll discuss why.

“The Voice” blind auditions for season 25 concluded on Tuesday night with each of the four coaches completing their teams by claiming their 10th initial artist of the season. Returning for his second season, Chance the Rapper became the newest “four-chair king” with four artists joining him in those competitive auditions. The 10 artists representing his team will next take stage for The Battles beginning March 18, but first we want to know who is your favorite artist on Team Chance? Vote in the poll below.
The most thrilling of Chance’s four-chair turn wins was Serenity Arce singing “This City,” and chose his team after John Legend “wasted” his one block to stop her from choosing Dan + Shay. He also successfully used his own block against Reba McEntire in another four-chair decision, winning over Dani Stacy with “I Will Survive.” Maddi Jane was another four-chair win with “Escapism” and then Val T.
