Los Angeles’ Frieze week got off to a hot start in a fairly chill environment: a roller rink.
“I’m so glad Jimmy finally found a place to entertain in!” cracked James Corden, regarding the estate of super-producer/entrepreneur Jimmy Iovine. The former Late Late Show host played emcee to a crowd that included a rare fusion of music and art royalty: Ed Ruscha, Brian Grazer, Katie Couric, Joel Madden, Benny Blanco, Bob Geldof and sports agent Rich Paul, aka Adele’s partner.
All convened at the sprawling Bel Air manse of Iovine for an art auction, co-hosted by Dr. Dre, to raise funds for a revolutionary education program. In 2013, Iovine and Dre (born Andre Young) opened the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy, a novel university program fusing art, tech and business. In 2022, the duo went a step further, opening their own magnet high school in Leimert Park: the Iovine and Young Center.

When poet Cleo Wade and Oscar- and Emmy-nominated writer-producer-director Simon Kinberg (The Martian, X-Men: First Class, The 355, Invasion) got engaged in 2019, the evening was enveloped in art.
A few days before Kinberg proposed — at a get-together at their home — their friend, civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson, sent a photo of the couple to artist Brandon Breaux. The artist in turn created a multicolored drawing based on the photo showing the couple in outline. On the night of the engagement, Mckesson also gave postcard-size prints of the work to guests. “They wrote little things on the back and drew on [them]. It was so sweet,” recalls Wade. “It was a cool way of having art be alive.”
The night was a snapshot of the way the pair approach art collecting, with a focus on works that express freedom and joyfulness. “We both really respond to something that looks really free,” says Wade,...

You can’t catch an episode of Kenya Barris’ comedies without hearing, “Ssh, daddy’s working” at the end, in the form of his Khalabo Ink Society production company that closes the show. Despite this common refrain, though, Barris says he doesn’t want complete quiet while working.
“I actually like the white noise. It’s almost like when you’re driving a car really fast and that zoom sound makes you focus on the road a little bit more,” he explains.
He also doesn’t want to work in solitude, which is why he set up Covid testing at his house and had a few of his writers, who he notes are also close friends, work out there during the pandemic.
“I had a pretty big room and two or three people; we’d sit across from each other. And I’m lucky to have an amazing chef to cook things for us,...

American Idol set expectations unusually high on Wednesday with Ryan Seacrest promising “some of the most spectacular talent we’ve ever heard,” including — wait for it — the “greatest audition Idol has ever seen.”
As for whether Idol made good on that promise… honestly, who’s to say? This show has been on for so long that there are literally contestants whose parents have auditioned at one point. I’m not about to sift through 17-ish years worth of auditions just to prove Seacrest wrong. Not anymore.
In any event, the first part of his promise absolutely came true. This episode...

It looks like Katy Perry has a thing for dark-haired guys with guitars! On tonight's episode of American Idol, she had zero chill during Trevor Holmes' audition because she was too busy swooning over him. Nicknamed "dreamboat" by Katy's fellow judge Luke Bryan, the singer/songwriter from Thousand Oaks, CA completely charmed Katy with his looks — and he blew the judges away with his voice. Trevor introduced himself and explained that his main passion is music, but he works part-time as a construction worker to support his mother who suffers from Lupus. But while Trevor was explaining his situation, Katy interrupted him to tell him he was hot. "Here’s the thing, only hot guys are typically named Trevor. Trevor, he’s hot, he does construction on the side, and he loves his mom," Katy said, explaining why he was such a catch. The "Swish Swish" singer continued to hit on Trevor,...

During the highly anticipated Season 16 premiere of “American Idol” on its new home ABC, contestant Noah Davis and judge Katy Perry seemed to be speaking their own language. “Did you just say ‘wig’?” Perry asked the 18-year-old Arkansas contestant. When he said yes, she replied, “I know. Wig. I feel that already.” So what does “wig” mean? Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel had the exact same question that you all have, so he asked Perry in a recent interview (watch above).

“It’s a language that sometimes the kids and I speak. It’s a little bit internet language,” Perry explains about Davis’ comment. “When somebody basically sings really well and they ‘sang,’ they sing so well that the wig flies off. I’ve worn many wigs. Sometimes the glue [on the wig] is not strong enough to hold the vibrations and the wig flies all across the room.

This is American…wig? If you tuned in to American Idol's return on ABC to see Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan in action, you met 18-year-old Noah Davis and probably learned a new meaning for "wig." The teen college student performed a rendition of Rihanna's "Stay," but before he took to the piano, he said "wig" to Katy Perry, much to the befuddlement of the other judges. "I know, wig, I feel that already," Perry said. "It's not your language it's just for us. Wig." According to Urban Dictionary, "Wig is a term used to describe when someone does something (In their opinion) that is so good that they go bald." And "When something...
