[Editor's Note: Welcome to Archie's House of Horror! We're thrilled and chilled to team up with Archie Comics for this recurring column written by Jamie L. Rotante, writer and Senior Director of Editorial at Archie Comics. Each column takes a closer look at the terrifying themes and eerie inspirations found within the pages of the ever-expanding world of Archie Horror, with this month's column focusing on the intense exorcism that possesses the pages of Jinx: A Cursed Life, now available from Archie Comics!]
As far as horror tropes in genres go, possession and exorcisms are probably some of the most ubiquitous. I mean, right now, The Pope’s Exorcist is out in theaters. There’s seldom a long passage of time between exorcism and possession-related movies in theaters, thanks in large part to the lasting impact/legacy of Ed and Lorraine Warren, as questionable as they may be. And sure, a lot of exorcism-based movies can feel like different shades of the same color, but there still...

Christmas is a terrifying time.
And no, I don’t mean it in the commercialist and capitalistic sense, but the roots of Christmas are actually pretty gosh darn spooky. The Christmas we know of today (both sacred and secular) stemmed from a winter solstice celebration filled with revelry and debauchery. It was a time of transition, warding away evil spirits and witches, telling spooky stories by candlelight, and by going door-to-door, not to sing jovial carols, but to play tricks and wear costumes.
Sound familiar?...

Longtime Marvel Entertainment marketing and publicity executive Mike Pasciullo has died, according to a remembrance posted Wednesday on Marvel.com.
Born in 1972, Pasciullo worked at Marvel for 25 years, most recently as Senior Vice President of Marvel Television & Entertainment, Marketing & Publicity. He was, according to prolific comic book writer Frank Tieri, not just good at his job but “as good a friend to me as I’ve ever had.”

Marvel Entertainment president Dan Buckley said in a statement today, “Mike was truly a lifelong Marvelite. His marketing savvy, commitment, creativity, humor and kindness were on display every day for friends and fans alike. This week I will be revisiting the items from my X-Men sale that were first listed in Week 45. I am using an old Wizard Magazine this time around, as well as the grades and values on Zap Kapow Comics to come at the same issues with a fresh approach. Also this time round there are some new items joining the comics in the X-Men sale (yes I’m still scratching this trading card itch)! Depending on the amount of views/watchers I get on my listings, this will be the last time I list my X-Men comics until the characters join the MCU. Obviously I know I don’t have any key issues, but they are all good to high grade so waiting might be the way to go. I know it is unlikely the MCU is going to directly adapt any of the issues I have but the big...

Critical approval and positive audience reaction, reflected in consistent 80% scores for the latest DC Extended Universe installment Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, officially known as Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), don’t seem to be helping the film’s box office numbers, after its $33 million opening weekend landed it in the company of some of the worst financial performers in the history of DC’s cinematic endeavors.
Though most reviewers have praised Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the newly-upgraded title character, a role she reprises from David Ayer’s 2016 villain team-up film Suicide Squad, a dedicated minority of viewers continue to criticize the Australian’s depiction of the psychiatrist-turned-sociopath, and DC Comics writer Jimmy Palmiotti took to Twitter recently to have words with them:

Carnage recently destroyed Marvel's supervillain asylum Ravencroft. Marvel is going to explore it further.
Marvel is currently in the middle of Absolute Carnage, an event built out of the Donny Cates Venom run that mostly boils down to: Carnage has tapped into the power of the God of Symbiotes and is getting stronger and stronger as he hunts down anyone who’s ever worn a symbiote before. While this led to Carnage invading the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane to get his hands on Norman Osborn (who previously hosted Carnage), the tie-in Absolute Carnage vs. Deadpool had the place burned to the ground.
The writer on that side-story was Frank Tieri, who will be building on that incident to give us The Ruins of Ravencroft starting this January.
At New York Comic Con, Tieri joked that Ravencroft is just Marvel’s Arkham Asylum and blunt as he was.

Sure, connected universes may be all the rage these days, but Archie Comics has been ahead of this curve for decades. Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Crisis on Infinite Earths were even a glimmer in a young nerd's eye, the plucky publisher had Archie and the gang interacting with Josie and the Pussycats and Sabrina the Teenage Witch in their various titles..
In the past, Archie has occasionally published crossover stories uniting all the works from their nearly 80-year history (most notably in their Archie: The Married Life series), but never to a game-changing degree. All that is about to change. With the current Archie vs. Predator II and Jughead's Time Police titles weaving together the narrative threads that unite all permutations of these characters,...

Whenever the subject of Harley Quinn has come up, I’ve never been ashamed to admit that I didn’t become a fan of the character until Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner took the reins back in 2013. Before then, I more so saw her as Joker’s henchgirl. But now, she’s her own woman with a rich supporting cast.
Still, whenever any creative team oversees a specific title for a number of years, you can’t help but wonder what other writers and artists may bring to the table – no matter how much you love who’s in charge at the moment. So, even though I shed a tear when Palmiotti and Conner vacated the throne a few months back, I was ready to embrace change.
In the time since, Frank Tieri has done a fine job as interim writer, but beginning this summer, Sam Humphries (Green Lanterns, Nightwing) will be taking over.

Archie Comics continues experimenting with their roster of wholesome characters, planting them into ghastly horror comics similar to the company's output in the 1950's, with the new, 'werewolf story arc, "Jughead: The Hunger", that started with a 'one-shot', written by Frank Tieri and illustrated by Michael Wals:
"...'Jughead Jones' has always had an insatiable appetite. But what if his hunger came from a sinister place?
"When a murderous menace is on the prowl, taking the lives of some of the most well-known and esteemed inhabitants of 'Riverdale', Jughead and his family's dark legacy comes to light..."
"Jughead: The Hunger" #1 is written by Frank Tieri and illustrated by Pat Kennedy, Tim Kennedy, Bob Smith, Jim Amash, Matt Herms and Jack Morelli, with covers by Francesco Francavilla, Robert Hack and Michael Walsh:

While everyone is buzzing about what’s going on in the Dark Nights: Metal mainline series by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo – and understandably so – it’s hard not to think the various tie-ins are giving their bigger cousin a run for its money. Aside from the “Gotham Resistance” arc that’s unfolding in several ongoing titles from DC, the series of one-shots detailing evil versions of Batman hailing from the Dark Multiverse are proving to be essential reads once they hit stands.
The latest offering, The Murder Machine, spotlights a Batman-Cyborg hybrid that may end up going down as one of the better tragedies this medium has to offer for the remainder of 2017. Granted, we’ve yet to get our hands on any subsequent issues and therefore can’t speak for any of the other Dark Knights, but this particular book came as a...

While the mainline series that is Dark Nights: Metal is allowing for Scott Snyder to display his vast knowledge of the DC Universe, we can’t help but love how the various tie-ins that’ll hit stands this fall have an Elseworlds kind of flavor to them. Well, there’s that and the fact that each of them spotlight various evil versions of Batman.
To date, we’ve been offered closer looks at a sinister-looking Flash-Batman amalgam, The Red Death, a sweet mashup with Green Lantern, The Dawnbreaker, and a twisted Batman-Joker hybrid known as The Batman Who Laughs, the latter of which may ultimately prove to get the most attention. Regardless, each of these threats emanating from the Dark Multiverse are bound to turn more than a few heads – if the subject of today’s discussion doesn’t crush them first, that is.

Frank Castle may be this slick, overly-competent killer of bad guys, but even he gets embarrassed from time to time.
Even though The Punisher is now the star of his own Netflix series, let's not forget that Frank Castle has been building bodycounts for over forty years. He’s starred in many fantastic storylines and has become one of the more iconic heroes in Marvel history.
He’s had several movies, a handful of video games (including one of the best arcade brawlers ever), cartoon appearances, and more. He’s taken up the mantle of Captain America, been a black man, became an angel, became a Frankenstein, befriended Archie Andrews, and even killed Gwar.
Okay, they were called “Warg,” but same thing.
The thing every Punisher writer – especially Garth Ennis – always has to push is how unflappable and badass Frank is. He’s the coolest guy ever...

Anne Hathaway tried to wrest away the crown, but Michelle Pfeiffer remains the queen of playing Catwoman…on film, anyway. After all, no one holds a candle to Eartha Kitt. But if you think “Catwoman,” you probably think of Pfeiffer slinking around in red lipstick and a skillfully sewed latex suit. Selina Kyle has gone through many transformations since Pfeiffer’s take. Since the New 52 revamped the DC universe, Kyle has been Catwoman, a member of the Justice League of America, and most recently the head of the Calabrese mob family. But in Catwoman #48, things go off the rails and Selina goes into hiding. In New York City and framed for a murder she did not commit, Catwoman is now on the run! Join us for a rundown of all the biggest comics stories from the past seven days:
Is there a ban on new Spider-Man characters?
Spider-Gwen artist Robbi Rodriguez revealed during an interview with the Superior Spider Talk podcast that there is a "big rule" that his team couldn't create any new characters for their comic - apparently due to Sony controlling the Spider-Man film rights.
Soon enough, he was on Newsarama explaining that it had been a "misunderstanding", presumably in a voice like the brain slug victims in Futurama.
Black Knight
Joining the list of surprising All-New All-Different Marvel solo titles is Black Knight, with Dane Whitman rolling over a region called New Avalon on Weirdworld.
Writer Frank Tieri (New Excalibur) is returning to the character with artist Luca Pizzari (Red Skull).

Gail Simone has confirmed that she will be returning to Marvel for the recently-announced wedding of Deadpool which will unfold within the pages of Deadpool #27. Fans may remember that Simone first began her [mainstream] run in the comic industry with Marvel’s Deadpool at the time, and although the series ended just a few issue later, Simone went on to launch a similarly-minded character series called Agent X in 2002.
After a dispute with the editor on Agent X, Simone then headed over to DC Comics where she’s been ever since, going on to write some of our favorite Batgirl stories as well helming DC’s New 52 relaunch of the Batgirl title.
With the release of Deadpool #27, Gail Simone will mark her first work for Marvel in 10 years as she joins an array of past Deadpool writers being assembled for the highly-anticipated Deadpool wedding issue.

11th and 18th September
Jack here; I’ve bashed two weeks of my contributions to Mark’s stuff for the week of the 11th, because a) I’m behind on my writing and b) I’m not sure how to get caught up otherwise. Bit of a mishmash then, but I’m sure you can handle it, intelligent and tolerant reader.
Mark
It’s tie-in central at Marvel this week as X-Men #5 (w/Brian Wood, a/David Lopez) continues Battle of the Atom with a brevity and economy that Brian Bendis should take note of if he wants to make his lion’s share of the chapters anywhere near as compelling or characterful. Wood and Lopez deliver a solid chapter that allows almost every member of the exponentially growing cast to shine while doing a stellar job of keeping the utterly ludicrous plot seem almost grounded in some kind of reality.
