Spoilers ahead for "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" episode 9.
"She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" has never been afraid to be meta with its fourth-wall breaking, but the season finale takes the cake, by a long shot. Although Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) often cracks jokes at the expense of the series, she also makes fun of certain aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The finale is no different, as it literally propels the character onto the Marvel Studios lot, with Walters invading the offices in charge of writing and producing the show itself. Yes, this really happened.
"She-Hulk" also introduced the being in charge of creating and maintaining the MCU, a sentient AI aptly named K.E.V.I.N. — it's a very direct nod towards Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and his power over the cinematic universe he created. The series pokes fun at the algorithmic nature of the Marvel formula, and...

The Jaeger program is looking for new recruits.
As the Internet grinds to a halt in anticipation of San Diego Comic-Con, Legendary has unleashed the first teaser trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising, the Steven S. DeKnight-directed creature feature that places John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) in the driving seat.
For when the Kaiju stage their resurgence, the former Attack the Block actor will lead the human resistance as Jake Pentecost, son of the apocalypse-canceling Stacker (Idris Elba). That leaves Boyega with some mighty big boots to fill – both human and otherwise – if he’s to command the story in the spirit of his on-screen father, but we’re quietly confident that the rising star is ready to step up to the plate. You’ll be able to catch a fleeting glimpse of him suited up at the tail-end of Uprising‘s first teaser, which spends close to...

Richard Rouse III (The Suffering, Homefront) has a new project in the works, and it’s not what you’d expect. Titled The Church in the Darkness, it’s a top-down action-infiltration game in which the player must infiltrate and seemingly put an end to the devious practices of a South American cult. Part artistic experience and part 1970s cult movement inspired narrative, it’s an interesting-looking effort.
In The Church in the Darkness, gamers will take on the role of a former law enforcement officer who must stealthily make his way into South America’s Freedom Town cult, in an effort to check on his sister’s son. Of course, Freedom Town is not as it purports to be, which is something that is normally the case when it comes to such congregations.

I've made many wishes throughout my life that have not come true. Thankfully, my wish for 'a funny web series that I can write about in my Friday column' has come true. Wish It Inc. takes viewers inside the office of a professional wish granting company populated by faeries and genies and other such magic beings. The central figure in Wish It Inc. isn't magical at all; she's just Hannah, a simple girl with a bubbly personality and a pedestrian desk job that requires her to turn coins into wishes. She plays the straight woman surrounded by a variety of nutty, magical employees. The wisecracking genie (Amber Ruffin) scores some good laughs, the sarcastic secretary (Haley Mancini) steals every scene she's in, and Portal fans will delight in the casting of Ellen McLain as the fairy godmother who must deal with a nationwide coin shortage. The first of 12 episodes has...

Guillermo del Toro's forthcoming Pacific Rim shares its audience's passions – while Michael Bay's Transformers series is a cynical exercise in cashing-in
It's not as if giant robots have only been a part of the Hollywood landscape since Michael Bay first brought those clattering, clunking, brain-battering metal monstrosities known as the Transformers to the big screen. The original The Day the Earth Stood Still, a classic sci-fi romp of its time, gave us the mighty Gort way back in 1951. Even more kitsch is the 1974 Japanese monster movie Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, in which aliens try to take over the earth with a robot version of the famous giant mutant lizard.
Nevertheless, we should probably give Bay dubious credit for creating the space that others are only now beginning to fill. The second trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim dropped this week, and once again had the geekoverse in...

Fans of the acclaimed "Portal" video game series likely recognized the voice of psychotic operating system GlaDOS in last month's trailer for Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim."
Out doing promotion for "Mama", del Toro revealed that he got Valve's permission to use voice actress Ellen McLain for the trailer for his monsters vs. giant robots movie.
Del Toro says: "I wanted very much to have her, because I'm a big Portal fan. But just as a wink. She's not cake-obsessed. She's not out to destroy humanity. I said, 'Look, there's no A.I. I'd rather have than GlaDOS.'"
He added that in the final film, the voice of the robot A.I. will be less like the voice heard in the games: "The filter we're using is slightly less GLaDOS. Slightly. The one in the trailer I wanted to be full-on GlaDOS."

When the first trailer for Pacific Rim was released last month, video game fans quickly recognized the voice of GlaDOS from the Valve video game, Portal, being used in the movie.
Today, director Guillermo del Toro revealed that he got Valve’s permission to use voice actress Ellen McLain for the trailer, but only as an omage to the game.
“I wanted very much to have her, because I’m a big Portal fan. But just as a wink. She’s not cake-obsessed. She’s not out to destroy humanity. I said, ‘Look, there’s no A.I. I’d rather have than GlaDOS.’”
However, the director said that the voice will be altered for the final movie.
“The filter we’re using is slightly less GLaDOS. Slightly. The one in the trailer I wanted to be full-on GlaDOS.”

A number of small news items popped up this weekend and we wanted to let readers know about CGI in Evil Dead, GlaDOS in Pacific Rim, and what went wrong with the recent reboot of The Munsters:
Evil Dead: Fans were understandably skeptical when an Evil Dead remake was first announced, but the two trailer releases have received a great response and many are curious to see how it will turn out. One thing you won’t have to worry about is terrible computer-generated effects in the movie. Here’s what director Fede Alvarez told io9 during a recent interview:
“We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster,...

When the trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim was released last month, many fans noticed that the voice of Portal character GLaDOS (voiced by Ellen McLain) was used. Speaking with Toronto Sun, the director (who's currently promoting the upcoming horror film Mama, which he's producing) reveals that it was his intention to use GLaDOS' voice, as he's a big fan of the video game series. "I wanted very much to have her, because I’m a big Portal fan. But just as a wink. She’s not cake-obsessed. She’s not out to destroy humanity." Del Toro also looks back on approaching Portal creators Valve for permission to use GLaDOS' voice, despite no plans to have an actual crossover between the two. "I said, ‘Look, there’s no A.I. I’d rather have than GlaDOS,’" he stated. Despite this, the voice used in the actual movie will be slightly filtered,...

When the trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim was released in December (watch it below), fans of Valve's "Portal" games noticed quite clearly the voice of GLaDOS (voiced by Ellen McLain). Del Toro tells the Toronto Sun that was the intention and he got the permission of Valve, but he added that the A.I. voice won't sound as much like GLaDOS in the final film. While there won't be a crossover between the worlds of Pacific Rim and "Portal," Del Toro says that he "wanted very much to have her, because I.m a big Portal fan. But just as a wink. When the first trailer for Pacific Rim hit a lot of us thought the voice of the robot sounded very familiar. It looks like many of our readers were right, because Guillermo del Toro confirmed that the voice of the robot is GLaDOS from the video game Portal.
Del Toro is a big fan of the game, and he hired Ellen McLain, the actor that provides the voice of GLaDOS in the game, to do the same exact voice in the movie as well. According to Forbes the director even had her voice run through nearly the exact same alteration process as in Portal, so they would sound exactly alike.
This is a pretty cool shoutout to the fans. It's not new news that McLain was cast in the film, but no one knew that she would be hired to do her GLaDOS voice in the film until we all heard it in the trailer.

"Today we are canceling the apocalypse!" So declares Idris Elba in the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro's highly anticipated sci-fi flick "Pacific Rim."
In the special-effects spectacular, Charlie Hunnam (still using an American accent, like his "Sons of Anarchy" biker kingpin) suits up with his fellow rebels to fight Godzilla-type monsters, or "kaiju," taking over the Earth.
To take on the ginormous aliens -- who invaded "from deep within the sea, a portal between dimensions in the Pacific Ocean" -- Hunnam & Co. pilot Jaegers, giant mechanical robots.
The new trailer also features "Babel's" Rinko Kikuchi and the vocal stylings of Ellen McLain, rocking her GLaDOS voice from the Portal video games in the computerized launch sequence.
What do you think of the new trailer?
"Pacific Rim" opens July 11, 2013.

Guillermo del Toro knows how to do creepy. He’s proven he can do rip-roaring entertainment. And he’s also a hugely charming raconteur. Now, with the first proper trailer for Pacific Rim, he’s proving he’s got massive blockbuster chops. Check out the footage above and the new poster below. In a wildly thrilling trailer that plays like an adrenalin shot straight to the heart, we get the very basic setup thanks to Charlie Hunnam’s Raleigh Antrobus, who explains that massive, trans-dimensional beasties are emerging from the ocean. Sharp-eared viewers will also pick out the voice of Ellen McLain as the AI – essentially Portal's GLaDOS in all but name (though presumably slightly less homicidal/cake-obsessed).The creatures – every bit as alien even though they didn’t fall from the stars – are known as kaiju and are looking to destroy humanity. But they had reckoned without our indomitable...

Guillermo del Toro was at New York Comic-Con this weekend to drum up interest in his new monster movie, Pacific Rim (as if we all weren’t already hyped enough…). While chatting with an assembled mass of reporters, del Toro was asked about his canceled videogame InSane. The promising project was set up at Thq, but when that publisher fell upon hard financial times, InSane was cut loose. Del Toro is still looking for a partner to bring his horrific vision to gamers everywhere – and he revealed that he’d love to team up with the guys at Valve. The filmmaker cited his love of Left 4 Dead and Portal behind his reasoning – and then he decided to drop a tidbit that no one had heard prior: Ellen McLain, the voice of the hilariously evil GLaDOS in the...

As we hurtle toward a promising 2012, 2011 has arguably been one of the most impressive years for the industry since, well, 2010. It’s a good time be playing games.
A saturation of semicolons is indicative of a continued franchise offensive by the major publishers and, if Spike TV’s Video Game Awards are anything to go by, it’s really paying off.
Warner Bros. Interactive led the way with a total of seven wins from its three strongest games – Bastion, Batman: Arkham City and Mortal Kombat. Bastion bagged Best Downloadable Game, as well Original Score and Best Song, whilst Arkham City came away with an impressive 4 wins over 11 categories.
Nintendo came out on top in some pretty big categories, bagging wins for Skyward Sword in Best Wii, Handheld and Motion Game.

In episode #6 (recorded 12/12/11) Jim Cross and Joe Richardson talk the VGAs. Their awards, lack of finesse, but most importantly, the continuing tradition of exciting new trailers (follow the link below for all new Vga trailers).
Also this week a quick analysis of the new Xbox 360 dashboard and Rayman: Origins, this years great game you almost definitely missed. Interestingly enough this week also features incredible overuse of the word ‘indicative’, probably indicative of the lack of surprise regarding this years award winners (also below).

Saturday night, industry luminaries gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate the best that videogames had to offer for 2011. Whether you love or loathe the somewhat campy Spike Video Game Awards, the show does provide a chance to honor some of the year's best titles, as well as revealing new games via world premiere trailers.
"Batman: Arkham City" held its own within the crowd of nominees, taking home four awards across multiple categories.
Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Interactive received awards for Best Action-Adventure Game, Best Xbox 360 Game, Character of the Year (Joker), and Best Adapted Game. The Character of the Year award was well-deserved, considering Mark Hamill's amazing performance, but the Best Xbox 360 Game award was a bit odd. "Arkham City" isn't exclusive to Microsoft's console, and considering there are a number of Xbox-exclusive titles – well, whatever.

Woe it is to be a sidekick.
No-one ever cuts them any slack, let’s be honest. Eternally they dwell in the shadow of the protagonist, a cheap mockery of the gleaming hero. Who needs a Boy Wonder when they have a Dark Knight?
Well, like it or not, the sidekick is here to stay. Whether it just be for comic relief or a voice of reason to a conflicted title character, they have their uses. This is especially true, I’m happy to say, in video gaming. Because, let’s confess, even a hardened gamer could do with a bit of back-up, slithers of advice or even the odd chuckle during his experience. In this regard the sidekick is invaluable, maybe even worthy of a bit of recognition for a change.
Today, we honour gaming’s great supporting cast: players who may be just left of the lime-light, but who will forever be remembered.

"Portal" gets a lot of love on the internets, and with good reason. The ingenuity of its brain-bending, physics-based puzzles, the snarky antagonism of passive-aggressive AI villain GLaDOS and the singularly well-executed gimmick of on-demand teleportation all combined to make it one of the best games ever made. By the time, you reach its affecting, musical aftermath you're ready to do it all over again.
So, it's natural that "Portal" video tributes tend to come in a steady stream. Hell, one guy even had a custom "Portal 2" level made to propose to his girlfriend with. But, "Portal: No Escape" from director Dan Trachtenberg sets a high bar for anyone looking to capture the energy of Valve's hit games.
Actress Danielle Rayne ("All My Children") does a lot with her physicality to effective channel the mute tenacity of test subject Chell and what it might actually be like to be trapped in Aperture Science's dank halls.

McLain does a lot of voice work for Valve, but is most famous for being the voice of the maniacal GlaDOS from the Portal series. John Lowrie the husband of Ellen McLain tweeted;
“Ellen is going in Tuesday for a new game and more Portal work”.
We already new there would be some Portal 2 downloadable content coming down the pipes, however the real question is what new game is she doing voice work for?
Now this is just a rumor but that won’t stop me from speculating what the new game might be; the next Half-Life game, Team Fortress 3, or how about a new Valve IP? I know if I ask what game people want Valve to do, everyone will say Half-Life; so is there any game besides Half-Life you would like to...

"It's been a looooooong time..."
That monotone, systematic voice has echoed through your nightmares with it's hidden insults and sarcastic chides...and lies about cake. I know it has...because I, too, am a survivor of GLaDOS. But apparently not for long.
What, you say? But Chell destroyed her...she said so herself in her review! She flew up and reached the surface...there's no way...
Well, in case you missed it, Valve updated Portal back in March 2010 after the announcement of Portal 2. One of those updates was a new ending to the original game. Here you guys go:
Bringing us to now...woken up by yet another systematic voice, finding yourself in a much more comfy room than we found ourselves at the beginning of the first game, you're sitting there wondering what's up with this. But not for too long as you find yourself blacking out shortly after.

With the release of Portal 2, game developer Valve has followed-up the critically acclaimed original with more head-bursting puzzles, fanatical computers, and immersive story. We spoke with lead writer Erik Wolpaw, designer/engineer Jeep Barnett, and VP of marketing Doug Lombardi to find out how they created the setting of the game, what drives their innovative storytelling techniques, and more. Warning: beware of Spoilers.
Fast Company: When the decision was made to go ahead with Portal 2, what was the first challenge you faced?
Erik: Probably the first challenge was, "What is Portal 2?" We actually went down this path in the very beginning where we thought that maybe Portal as a franchise is less about portals--which sounds crazy in retrospect--and more about introducing a new puzzle mechanic. And the common theme was Aperture Science, this kind of funhouse of science. We actually mocked up a version of Portal 2 that didn't actually have portals.
