Much like Eating Miss Campbell, which also featured Charlie Bond and James Hamer-Morton, Powertool Cheerleaders vs. The Boyband of the Screeching Dead feels very much like a Troma movie.

With over a decade of experience as a horror writer and director, Pat Higgins will be Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Saturday 20th January with his latest Master Class: Fear and Film. I got chance to ask Pat a few questions about what we can expect from the talk, some of his influences in horror and the various incarnations of his film The House on the Witchpit.
What can we expect from the Master Class: Fear and Film?
We try to have a mix of useful tips and tricks for people making independent horror movies, along with unseen video clips and (hopefully) entertaining stories! There are a couple of live shows from previous years over at http://pathiggins.me.uk/appearances/ for the curious. This year’s show is very much focused on fear itself, and the relationship between fear and movies. I’ll be sharing the movies that scared the...

For their seventh annual edition, the Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival is really blowing things up!
Well, not literally. But the world’s premiere horror movie fest is expanding to over double its regular size, screening over 50 films on nine terrifying nights Oct. 10-18 at its new home, the prestigious AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland.
The scares kick off on the 10th with the return of local fave filmmaker Richard Bates, Jr. with the feature-length version of Excision about a teenage girl obsessed with becoming a surgeon. The film co-stars John Waters, Malcolm McDowell and Traci Lords. Bates’ original short Excision on which the feature is based screened at Spooky Movie back in 2008.
A few other Spooky Movie alumni who are back with highly anticipated new films include Mike Davis‘ “green” horror movie President Wolfman, which is composed entirely of public domain footage mixed with a rip-roarin...

Director: Jonathan Glendening. Writers: Pat Higgins and Phillip Barron. Cast: Robert Englund, Steven Berkoff and Lysette Anthony. In a movie that is tentatively tantalizing by its title alone, Strippers vs. Werewolves, to wait ‘30 days’ in the movie’s timeline before the real action begins is tough. Also, that is an awfully long time before the battle can begin. In that duration, one rat pack can easily dispense with another, and make several stops for snacks along the way. When Justice, an exotic dancer defends herself against Mickey, a gangster who goes feral with lust, she does not know what she has started. The silver tipped pen she uses to protect herself with kills him. That results in many problems for Vixens, the strip club, when the mobsters realize one of their own has fallen. Thankfully, the gangster’s death does not get discovered until hours later. The staff has time...

Bordello Death Tales features three stories all revolving around the gory activities happening at Madame Raven’s bordello, where the sex comes with an extra helping of brutal murder and mayhem.
First up is The Ripper, directed by James Eaves (Bane), about a serial killer of prostitutes who thinks he’s found nirvana when he happens upon Madame Raven’s house of ill-repute. Then, Stitchgirl, directed by Alan Ronald, is an homage to the classic Bride of Frankenstein about a mad scientist and his pieced-together flesh creation. Brit director Jonathan Glendening has been named the helmer for new UK horror 'Strippers vs Werewolves'. It's been a while since we reported anything on this project, when director Pat Higgins had just provided producer Jonathon Sothcott with the script, but now everything seems to be moving forward in a positive way. Glendering is an interesting choice since just recently seeing the release of his own werewolf feature '13Hrs' starring ex-'Hollyoaks' star Gemma Atkinson. However, now only have they locked in a director but have also cast 'Hostel' euro hottie Barbara Nedeljakova ('The Hike', 'Children of the Corn: The Dweller'). Babs will join the previously cast ex-soap star Adele Silva (below). This is certainly starting to gain my interest in a big way! Fingers crossed for some full-on bloody horror action and gratuitous ...

Producer Jonathan Sothcott has revealed details of his next film to Dread Central. Sothcott you may remember is behind the remake of classic 70s horror The Asphyx, and while we have to wait a while longer for work to start on that film, in the meantime Sothcott has announced what sounds to be a sure-fire Friday night beer-n-booze no brainer: Strippers vs. Werewolves!
It sounds like one hell of a showdown… Says Sothcott:
The script has been written by a very talented guy named Pat Higgins, who has made a string of micro budget genre films in the UK including Hellbride, KillerKiller and Bordello Death Tales. His stuff is very stylish and he’s already developed quite a cult following. We’d been chatting about doing something together and he said he was working on a script called Strippers Vs Werewolves. “This I must see”, I thought. I read it...

You may not be familiar with Brit director Pat Higgins but he's certainly paying his horror dues. Our protagonists, Lee and Nicole, have just gotten engaged. However, the engagement ring Lee has brought is, in fact, cursed. Consequently, Nicole is stalked by a rather annoyed ghostly bride (Josephine). Josephine had been jilted before her wedding day and decides to ruin the big day for the next bride who ends up wearing her ring...
Hellbride is one of those very rare, yet pleasant, little oddities. It’s odd because it could be the first film I’ve seen that hard to categorise in terms of genre. I was expecting a comedy horror hybrid, yet it’s much more than that.

2009 was a big year for British film, and hopefully that will continue into 2010. There has never been a better time to immerse yourself in cinema, and there are many ways to get involved beyond just going to the cinema. If your new years resolution was to get more into movies, and you live in the UK, here are ten things you can do towards that goal.
10 Follow Freeviewfilms on Twitter
There are so many freeview channels now, it can be time consuming to look through all the channels to see which movies are coming up. There is now a solution – Follow Freeviewfilms on twitter. Their feed announces every movie shown on freeview, five minutes before the start. This means any time you feel like watching a movie, you can see what’s on offer. I’ve found it very useful particularly over the holiday season.
