Originally a jazz trumpet player Kyle was taught to play piano by the
legendary blues singer and piano man Charles Brown ("Merry Christmas
Baby") while Kyle was in college. Charles Brown was one of the
musicians Ray Charles imitated early on in his career. When Kyle was
six years old, a co-worker of his mother Mary tried to get him into
commercials because companies were trying to put more African Americans
in commercials. That co-worker was Richard Dreyfus who at the time was
working at County USC hospital in Downtown Los Angeles "General
Hospital" while also filming the TV show "Room 222".
