A child’s not very mysterious disappearance and the violent death of her father at the hands of something monstrous form the core of Nix, a structurally ambitious but performatively weak offering from prolific Sharknado director Anthony C Ferrante. Flitting back and forth in time, it deals with the loss of young Tessa (Angelina Karo) and the subsequent collapse of her family, which includes a mother who can’t let go (latterly played by Dee Wallace of E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial fame); brother Lucas, who becomes a drug addict (Skyler Caleb); boring normal brother Jack, who defaults to being the hero (James Zimbardi); and the addict’s young daughter Zoey (Niesha Renee Guilbot). Whilst they chip away at one another’s remaining ability to cope, Jack tries to protect Zoey and untangle the secrets of the past.
It all seems to hinge on a strange, Creature From The Black Lagoon-style beastie which inhabits.

“Nix” can mean two things in German. Aside from being the word for “nothing,” it’s also the name of a creature from local folklore. This play on the word is important to remember when diving into Anthony C. Ferrante‘s newest horror movie Nix. The Sharknado director once again brings terror to the surface as an aquatic threat exits the water and leaves death in its wake. Yet considering the title’s double meaning, the monster in question may or may not even be real.
Nix opens sometime in the past when people captured their most cherished moments with handheld cameras rather than phones. The Coyle family’s picnic by a pond turns grim as daughter Tessa (Angelina Karo) goes missing, and all signs point to her drowning in the water nearby. The present day then abruptly comes into view, and the remaining Coyle family members are still reeling from their losses.

"We're letting our imagination get the best of us." 1091 Pictures has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror creature feature titled Nix, the latest from a genre filmmaker named Anthony C. Ferrante. He is the very same director who made all three of the Sharknado movies for Syfy Channel, but that's not all he can do! Nix is Ferrante's first dramatic horror film since his 2005 hit Boo. A family finds themselves on a dark, scary journey into their own self-created madness when a mysterious entity manifests itself. It is described as "a modern-day horror movie dealing with trauma and addiction and how a tragedy twenty years prior tears apart a family." The indie horror film stars James Zimbardi, Michael Paré, Skyler Caleb, Angie Teodora Dick, and Dee Wallace. The gnarly lake creature in this isn't that scary, just a man in some latex prosthetics. But I like the...

The premise of Killer Therapy is quite simple… It’s We Need to Talk About Kevin minus the magic. I wrote that line, about 20 minutes into the film, and it is broadly true but, having got an hour in, it seems churlish and unfair. Having seen the film to the conclusion, I can say this is 1 hour and 20 minutes of carefully crafted and developed film. Then 10 minutes of silly, jokeresque stabbing.
It is really disappointing to say that, because right up to the end of the film, this was going to be an extremely positive review.
Our young man Brian is from a wealthy, albeit slightly dysfunctional family. His Mum is close to him,...

Exclusive: All Roads Productions has set a February production start for Spearfinger, a Cherokee folklore thriller that will be shot in the Appalachian Mountains in February 2020. Skyler Caleb, Woodrow Hancock and James Zimbardi are writing/producing under their All Roads Productions banner. Gary Rubens is financing and executive producing, sharing the latter duties with Anthony E. Zuiker, who created the CSI TV series franchise.
The thriller tells the story of Spearfinger, or U’tlun’ta, a figure in Cherokee legend that lived along the subrange of the Appalachians, also called the Great Smokey Mountains. “U’tlun’ta”, which translates from Cherokee to “she had it sharp”, refers to the sharp finger on the figure’s right hand. As the legend goes, the sharp finger resembled a spear or obsidian knife, which she used to cut her victims and devour their livers. Hancock, who has family in the Appalachian Mountains, first...

Stars: Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, John Cusack, Armando Riesco, Shannon Woodward, Chris Riggi, Scott Coffey, Darin Scott, Reed Birney, Catherine Lloyd Burns | Written by Andy Cochran | Directed by Scott Coffey
Helmed by actor-turned-director Scott Coffey, who many may recognise from 80s films such as Some Kind of Wonderful and Space Camp, Adult World is another in a long-line of American indie dramas – you know the type: the ones that mix witty dialogue and a hip soundtracks in the hopes of creating something loftier than the rest. This particular example follows Amy (Roberts), a naive college graduate who believes she’s destined to be a great poet, who begrudgingly accepts a job at a sex shop while she pursues a mentorship with her idol, reclusive writer Rat Billings (Cusack).

Starting this week, fans of the radio anthology series Suspense will be able to hear new versions of their favorite classics broadcast on Sirius Xm BookRadio 80 two nights a week.
The updated Suspense airs Wednesdays (7:30pm Et/4:30pm Pt) and Sundays (11:30pm Et/8:30pm Pt), and Episode #1 is an adaptation of Lovecraft's 'Cool Air,' starring Adrienne Wilkinson and Daamen Krall.
The original Suspense, which ran from 1942-1962, was known as “radio’s outstanding theater of thrills” and featured a virtual 'who’s who' of Hollywood stars, including horror legends Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, and Peter Lorre. Though many of its episodes were murder mysteries, the original Suspense made many forays into pure horror, such as its adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror and Curt Siodmak’s Donovan’s Brain.
As for the new Suspense, it goes in a somewhat different direction.
