Max’s Conan O’Brien Must Go is a travel show with a twist.
“My mission is that you learn nothing about the country,” O’Brien explained on a spectacular recent installment of the Hot Ones web series, an appearance that I’m confident did more to boost the visibility of Conan O’Brien Must Go than the dozens of marketing dollars Warner Bros. surely put into the series. “My job is that you know less about the country after I’m done than when I started.”
While O’Brien’s performance on Hot Ones — especially after pronouncing that he’d never encountered a spice until his 50s — may have surprised some observers, few of the late night veteran’s devotees will be surprised that his assessment of Conan O’Brien Must Go is disingenuous. Or at least it’s a hair disingenuous. Conan O’Brien Must Go isn’t the sort of travel...

Three years ago, when Conan O’Brien retired from late-night, it was a very different world. Max was known as HBO Max. TBS was still releasing original series. David Zaslav had just been announced as the CEO of what would become Warner Bros. Discovery. Change was in the air, and now many, many changes have happened.
But Conan remains a constant. Before “Conan” (the late-night series on TBS) welcomed its last guests, its host had already launched a wildly successful podcast, “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.” He soon sold his booming digital media business to SiriusXM for $150 million, produced stand-up specials (“Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This?” and “Gary Gulman: Born on Third Base”) and podcast series (from Rob Lowe and Andy Richter), and acted in everything from “Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain” and “Murderville” to “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” and “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.

June will mark an end of an era for late night television when Conan O’Brien, the creator and host of TBS’ “Conan,” signs off for the last time on June 24.
It’s not quite clear how Conan’s next comedic foray will pan out; the comedian is set to host a weekly variety series on HBO Max but details are scarce. Regardless, there’s ample reason to be excited about Conan’s next steps given that he and his writing staff have produced countless memorable interviews and recurring and one-off bits over the decades. Conan has hosted three late-night shows spanning thousands of episodes since 1993 and much of his material has been digitally preserved and is neatly categorized on YouTube and Conan’s own website.

Conan O’Brien kicked off his residence at the Largo Theater in Los Angeles on Monday night, when the TBS late-night host welcomed Will Ferrell and a brand new sponsor.

“Conan” didn’t have much of an audience last night, which is good for social distancing but not great for laughs. Especially when the lone person in the crowd is O’Brien’s perpetually unimpressed assistant, Sona Movsesian.

“I started here doing improv,” Conan explained. “I got my first laughs here in 1985, and I got my last laughs here in 1991. No laughs since — bit of a drought.”

Conan O’Brien was getting a little bored in quarantine last night, so he decided to pull some classic shenanigans on his old pal Jordan Schlansky.
O’Brien decided to order a Furbo interactive dog camera and send it to Schlansky, associate producer of his show, with the orders to install it on the floor in his house.
“Jordan, it’s Conan,” the late-night host said from the speaker of the dog camera. “I’m checking in on you because you’re, in some ways, like a pet to me, and I wanted to see how you were doing, pal.”

The Sydney Swans were quite kind to let Conan O’Brien try out for their Australian Rules Football team. Good news: They probably won’t have to cut a veteran to make room for the TBS comic.
O’Brien went down under on the latest “Conan Without Borders.” While there, he explored the bush, the beach, and even learned some Aussie slang. One thing Conan probably regrets doing is trying out for the Afl squad.
He didn’t exactly excel at footy — but O’Brien did get some cool cleats for trying.

Though O’Brien lacked “athleticism,” “ability” and “desire,” per the Swans’ assistant manager, he also lacked a lot of other tools and attributes needed for the technical and physical sport. Thankfully, Louis took it easy on him during the tackling drill.

Conan O’Brien headed to Japan recently to collect a little coin and learn some manners. Turns out, his etiquette coach and her assistant over there could use a few lessons themselves.
First, the instructor really didn’t want to touch Conan — like, at all. After all, they’re not boyfriend-girlfriend, she said — and it sounds like they are never going to be.
“You’re not my type,” she told him, adding that his “face” was the main problem.

TBS will scale back Conan O’Brien’s late-night series “Conan” to a half-hour in 2019, the network said on Thursday.
The move comes a year after O’Brien, the longest-tenured late-night host, signed a new four-year deal to remain with the Turner network. At the time, O’Brien even mentioned that the show would undergo changes to be “leaner, more agile.”
“Since I inherited my ‘Late Night’ show in 1993, TV has changed exponentially. I’d like to think I have evolved with many of these changes, but now it’s time to take the next leap. A half-hour show will give me the time to do a higher percentage of the comedy in, and out, of the studio that I love and that seems to resonate in this new digital world,” O’Brien said about the changes. “It’s still going to be me hosting a very silly show, but I want segments on my half-hour program to link to digital content, deepening the experience for my younger fans, and confusing my older ones.”
Also Read: Conan O'Brien Totally Ruins Jordan Schlansky's Italian Road Trip (Video)
TBS has contemplated tinkering with the format for more than a year, as the late-night space has become more crowded.
“Conan has always been a fearless performer and now, at the top of his form, I’m excited he’s taking a gutsy step forward with us into new arenas,” said Kevin Reilly, president of TBS and TNT and chief creative officer of Turner Entertainment.
TBS is still going to have plenty of O’Brien. The network is expanding its partnership with O’Brien’s Team Coco, including its touring and digital content. This will include O’Brien’s entire catalog from his “Late Night” days on NBC. Later this year, O’Brien and a curated team of stand-up comics will embark on a multi-city tour.

Jordan Schlansky will never have peace and quiet so long as he works for Conan O’Brien.
On Wednesday’s “Conan,” the duo travels to Italy, which is a regular pilgrimage for sophisticated producer Schlansky. As he is wont to, Schlansky rented a classic red Fiat and drove the beautiful countryside of Tuscany. And it was almost a spiritual experience.
Unfortunately, goofball O’Brien ruined the whole trip for his friend and occasional viral video companion.

While Conan mercilessly mocks Schlansky, Jordan bores some local dogs.
Poor Schlansky can’t even listen to his favorite operas along the way, as the rights issues would prove tricky for cable channel TBS. There was no way Conan was going to sit there in silence.
Yes, the whole road trip is a total disaster, one that certainly doesn’t get any better when O’Brien breaks out the sound effects or the 1962 car dies.

Guys, I'm starting to think that Harrison Ford doesn't really like "Star Wars" toys. After he spent part of his appearance on "The Tonight Show" ripping apart a Han Solo doll, he took out a Lego Millennium Falcon on last night's "Star Wars"-centric "Conan." "Conan" associate producer Jordan Schlansky is a "Star Wars" superfan. Jordan Schlansky is also Jordan Schlansky, so when he got a chance to meet Harrison Ford and J.J. Abrams, he spent most of it boring them to tears asking about the grips on Luke Skywalker's lightsaber. Then he asked Ford to sign his Millennium Falcon. And not just any Millennium Falcon -- it's the Lego Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon, which is worth thousands of dollars, according to a quick glance of eBay. Ford took the Millennium Falcon in his arms and immediately tossed it over his shoulder "accidentally." As it is a Lego set, it was promptly destroyed.

Real comedy still happens on late night, we can prove it. If you like Conan comedy gold, Fallon friendliness, cutesy Corden, list-making Letterman, kneedy Kimmel, and all the rest, I hope you’ll enjoy this column too.

Liotta talks about his new Western series, Texas Rising. DC capitol police can’t stop leaving their guns in the public bathrooms. Howie Mandel has athlete’s foot.

Conan O'Brien, best boss in the world, decided it was a good idea to be a lunatic and terrorize his staff with fake performance reviews. Really, this ends up being a throw–Jordan Schlansky–under-the-bus fest, which is at once hilarious and unfortunate because he's a legend and a treasure. Most important, though, Al Roker (kind of) makes a surprise guest appearance here, dressed up as a lot of different important people. Enjoy.

Conan O'Brien is one of the funniest human beings currently living, this much is certain. And while his late night comedy show on TBS isn't the most hugely watched show in late night, it is frequently the most hilarious and certainly the strangest. If you need a reminder of just how funny (and weird), check out this expertly edited video that, with a running time of just under five minutes, distills Conan's entire fourth season into a nonstop barrage of insane madness.
Among the highlights: Conan's Tinder date with Dave Franco, his needling of robotic coworker Jordan Schlansky, a never-ending series of guests and monologues and, of course, his infamous Lyft ride with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, something that, without exaggeration, reduced me to tears.
Just watch. It will make your Monday infinitely better.

All of the late night shows have odd characters you only see once in a while. The Late Show has Lyle The Intern, and Late Night had associate producer Jordan Schlansky. He's not really a character, he's a real person, but his persona (if it's not made up, which I don't think it is) fascinated Conan so much he often made him the subject of video segments and jokes.
He's with Conan on The Tonight Show, too, and last night Conan helped him find a house.
